Chapter 268 - 264: Just Jealousy
"My Brother Leng..."
Chen JianShe went on and on about all the great things about Leng Yuan, like he was chanting a spell.
The others couldn’t take it anymore.
They stepped forward to cover his mouth.
"Just shut up! You think we don’t already know how capable Leng Yuan is?"
If they didn’t, they wouldn’t have backed down just now.
Hearing this, Chen JianShe didn’t seem to mind his mouth being covered. Instead, he just grinned at the four of them.
The moment they let go, he chirped,
"As long as you know!"
The four of them were speechless.
They had to fight the urge to punch him.
It was the first time they’d ever found Chen JianShe so infuriatingly punchable.
Three of them were completely exasperated, but Chen Jie, on the other hand, asked a couple of questions.
"So, does that mean Leng Yuan taught you all those moves?"
Chen JianShe nodded.
"Yup!"
As soon as he said it, he realized something was off.
"You’re not thinking of becoming one of my Brother Leng’s followers too, are you?! Let me tell you, I’m his best follower. Don’t even think about it. It’s not happening."
He was already frustrated enough having Lu Yuanbin competing with him for the spot.
He absolutely wouldn’t allow another one to show up.
At least Lu Yuanbin lived far away, so they only saw each other every week or two. It was fine if his top spot was challenged once in a while, but Chen Jie lived right here in the village.
If he was usurped, his position really would be in jeopardy.
Chen JianShe was usually quite thick-skinned and not particularly perceptive about most things.
He often said the most shocking things at the worst times and was an absolute master at ruining the atmosphere.
But when it came to being perceptive, he could be surprisingly sharp.
He could immediately spot anyone who coveted his position.
Chen Jie was speechless.
That hadn’t been his intention at all. He simply admired capable people.
Leng Yuan’s prowess was famous throughout the village. He had known about it since he was seven or eight, and after more than a decade, he had become numb to it.
It was as if he had gotten so used to the man’s capabilities from a young age that it no longer surprised him.
Many people in the village said Leng Yuan was born with immense strength, and he figured that was probably the reason.
It was innate; nothing could be done about it.
But Chen JianShe was different. He looked as feeble as they came.
He remembered that Chen JianShe had been a sickly kid, a walking medicine cabinet, with such a weak constitution that he couldn’t do any strenuous exercise.
For someone that weak to be trained to become so capable... This was what made Chen Jie curious about Leng Yuan, which was why he had asked a few more questions.
Now, seeing Chen JianShe’s huge reaction, a mischievous thought popped into his head.
"It wouldn’t be so bad if I could get Eldest Brother Leng to mentor me."
’When that happens, I’ll definitely be more skilled than Chen JianShe.’
Chen JianShe bristled.
"Have you no shame? You’re three years older than Brother Leng!"
’He and Leng Yuan were the same age, though he was a few months younger. Chen Jie was already twenty-three and still had the audacity to call him ’Brother’.’
The other three were tempted as well, but they were all married with children and didn’t have the time to learn any martial arts moves.
Chen JianShe was filled with regret.
He wanted to slap himself.
’My whole point was to show these guys the gap between them and Brother Leng so they’d stop getting silly ideas all the time. But instead, I ended up putting ideas into the head of someone who shouldn’t have them.’
Chen JianShe shot Chen Jie a petty glare, then ran off.
Chen Jie was left speechless.
He rubbed his nose.
"He’s not that petty, is he? I didn’t even say anything!"
The other guys shook their heads.
"Ever since he could walk, Chen JianShe has been following Leng Yuan around like a shadow. Of course he’d be mad that you’re trying to take his place."
"If you actually succeeded, all his years of effort would have been for nothing!"
Chen Jie was speechless again.
’I wasn’t trying to steal Chen JianShe’s spot. I was just curious about Leng Yuan.’
’But there was clearly no way to explain that. Whatever.’
’I might as well go back and watch them portion out the pork.’
’Come to think of it, I’m craving some pork, too.’
