Chapter 276 204: Broken Blade Strikes
Late night, Border District.
Ou Chenyu had gone to the Border District in the afternoon for some business, and only just finished, ready to head back to the Inner City.
The rain was pouring heavier deep into the night, large raindrops pelted the car windows, creating rushing streams, the headlights swallowed by the darkness after scant meters, visibility was terrifyingly low.
Driving slowly, Ou Chenyu saw the towering rusted wall appear at the end of the road, the ever-glowing signal light atop it overlooking him like the eye of a giant.
With one hand on the wheel, Ou Chenyu took out his phone and dialed Xiaotian You's number, intending to inquire about Gold and KK.
"Hello, the number you have dialed is currently switched off. Please try again later."
A cold prompt sounded from the phone.
Not thinking much of it, assuming Xiaotian You's phone was dead, Ou Chenyu then dialed Max.
"Hello, the number you have dialed is currently switched off. Please try again later."
Still switched off.
Ou Chenyu's brow furrowed instantly.
It was one thing for one phone to be off.
But how could both be off?
Given their positions in the Mercenary Corps, keeping their phones on 24 hours was a rule.
One person occasionally slipping up was understandable.
But both slipping up simultaneously was nearly impossible.
Ou Chenyu stopped the car by the roadside, continuing to call other core members of the Cheetah unit.
Couldn't get through.
None could be reached.
Ou Chenyu's expression changed, realizing something was wrong.
The rusted wall he had passed through countless times was just ahead, but for some reason, that towering silhouette gave him an indescribable sense of crisis.
Without hesitation, he turned the car around and headed deeper into the border.
His subordinates suddenly losing contact was quite odd.
He planned to hide out at his emergency hideaway before figuring out what was going on.
The rain poured even heavier, the storm consuming the night sky, the rain like a raging tide washing over the dilapidated Border District.
While driving, the car headlights suddenly illuminated a staggering figure.
"Screech—" He slammed on the brakes, the tires skidding on the waterlogged road.
Fortunately, he managed to stop without hitting the person.
A drunken hooligan sat slumped in the pooled water, jumped up, and cursed at Ou Chenyu: "*Civilized Border*! Ass! Driving so fast at night, are you in a hurry to meet your maker?!"
"Beep! Beep!"
Not wanting to bother with such a thug, Ou Chenyu honked to drive him away.
Seeing Ou Chenyu honk without apologizing made the hooligan even angrier, and he smashed his bottle on the car hood, spewing all sorts of indecent words at Ou Chenyu.
Ou Chenyu, anger rising, prepared to get out and teach this hooligan a lesson.
Just as he was about to open the door, his gaze inadvertently swept over the rearview mirror.
Though the night was dark, and normal eyesight could see nothing, his cybernetic eye had vision far beyond the ordinary.
Suddenly he noticed a car parked in the darkness a few dozen meters behind him.
He remembered clearly there had been no car there when he drove by earlier.
This car had obviously pulled up just now.
Why stop there?
And why keep the headlights off on such a low-visibility rainy night?
Ou Chenyu frowned, his cybernetic eye switching to enhanced night vision, making the surroundings as bright as day.
In that instant, he clearly saw the driver's face...
...
The hooligan stood in the rain, pointing at Ou Chenyu's car, hurling filth: "Stupid ass! Still honking? I'll screw you up! I'll hang you up and screw you over! I..."
"Bang!" Out of nowhere, the car suddenly revved up and hit him, running over him and speeding forward.
Not far behind, in another car, Edge frowned and opened the intercom: "I think I've been exposed, I'm going to chase him."
"Vroom—" The engine roared.
Edge's car launched forward, pursuing in the direction Ou Chenyu was fleeing.
The hooligan, just struggling to his feet, saw another car bearing down and scrambled aside in a panic, nearly being run over.
Furious, he jumped and shouted curses at both vehicles: "Fools are everywhere today, screw you!"
Sometimes, fate was just so dramatic.
This hunting, which would completely overturn history, had an unknown hooligan as its first witness.
...
The rain-soaked night was pitch black, the two cars burst through the torrential water, racing down the road, engines roaring, both reaching peak speeds.
They occasionally ran parallel, occasionally weaving around, the waterlogged road as slick as an oil slick, every sudden brake and turn made the vehicles sway uncontrollably.
The two cars matched speeds, dogging each other like two hungry wolves fighting over food, the screech of tires against the road screeched, accompanied by the deep roar of engines and thunder in the sky, forming a symphony that was terrifying.
Edge activated bullet time, dramatically enhancing dynamic vision, adjusting his speed and angle like wielding a scalpel, finally overtaking Ou Chenyu through sheer performance.
"Bang!"
Edge swerved hard, striking Ou Chenyu's car from the rear side.
Ou Chenyu's vehicle violently shook, losing balance in the collision, but he quickly stabilized it with his excellent driving skills.
Unwilling to concede, he slowed to parallel Edge, then swerved hard to ram back.
"Bang!!"
The two cars crashed together, sparks flying amidst the friction, yet neither backed down.
Through the car windows, Edge and Ou Chenyu locked eyes, their gazes sharp enough to tear each other apart.
The chasing cars, like two massive metallic beasts fiercely battling, their bodies twisted and deformed from collisions, but they kept smashing into each other relentlessly.
