Chapter 639 - 433: Investigation and Discovery
Wu Yue was oblivious to their thoughts. Her focus was on one thing: what had caused these three people to fall into a deep, unwakeable slumber.
After two Beastman Warriors, for someone else in the tribe to fall into a coma so inexplicably... ’I really hope this isn’t some terrible infectious disease.’
The wait was long. The Beastman Warriors who had been sent out returned twice, but inspections of the items they brought back revealed nothing unusual.
"Yue, how are things? Anything unusual on your end?"
The Snow Tiger Witch, covered from head to toe in dust, walked in from outside.
"I just went to check the living quarters of the newcomers from the other tribes, but I didn’t find anything strange either."
Wu Yue paused, then tossed the items she had just finished inspecting to the Snow Tiger Witch. "Here, you check these again. I’m going to take a look at their living quarters."
Before the Snow Tiger Witch could even get a word out, a pile of items was stuffed into his arms. The young female who had just spoken was already long gone.
He huffed in exasperation, tugging on his beard, and chuckled, "Little brat."
Despite his grumbling, he eagerly turned to examine the items Wu Yue had shoved at him.
Led by a Half beastman Warrior, Wu Yue made her way to the living area for the people from the outer tribes. A large crowd of people in ragged clothes was gathered there, with several of the Snow Tiger Tribe’s Beastman Warriors standing at the very front.
Wu Yue grunted with effort as she squeezed through the crowd. In the clearing in front of the dwellings, a scrawny male lay on the ground, his face bruised and swollen, groaning pitifully. He was a miserable sight.
The moment Wu Yue broke through the crowd, Yuan Lang noticed her. "What are you doing here?"
Wu Yue raised an eyebrow, glancing at the scrawny male on the ground. Her expression clearly asked, ’What happened to him?’
Yuan Lang caught her look and sneered. "The man’s got some nerve. Slacking off during work is one thing, but he even dared to take extra food during distribution. He was asking to be taught a lesson."
His voice was frigid. At his words, the male on the ground hugged himself tighter, wishing he could just curl into a ball and roll away.
What he didn’t say was that this male had been ogling Wu Yue while they were building the city wall.
He had remarked to a companion how fair and smooth Wu Yue’s skin was, wondering aloud what it would feel like to touch.
The companion, who knew better, would never dare discuss such a thing. His face paled, and he promptly grabbed a brick and walked away.
The other male’s reaction was almost comical. One moment he was walking away in disgust, and the next, he was reporting the creep to Yuan Lang.
"Yuan Lang, that new guy is a real piece of work! He’s as ugly as a toad doing the splits, yet he dares to talk about touching Lord Wuyue. You have to teach him a harsh lesson."
The male didn’t linger after speaking, immediately returning to the task of hauling bricks.
Yuan Lang, however, gathered his friends and cornered the scrawny male.
When rivals in love meet, their jealousy burns brightest. Yuan Lang didn’t even use his Beast God’s Power; he just went in and gave the man a savage beating.
And that was why, when Wu Yue arrived, she was greeted by the sight of the scrawny male with a face swollen like a balloon.
When the scrawny male saw the young female he’d been ogling arrive, he decided to play the pity card, assuming all females were timid and soft-hearted. He started to whimper pathetically.
But before the sound could even escape his lips, Yuan Lang ruthlessly shut him up.
Wu Yue nodded. "I’m here to search their dwellings for the cause of the comas. Are you done beating him? If you want to hit him more, drag him somewhere else. Don’t disturb my search."
The scrawny beastman’s pained expression froze. ’What happened to females being soft-hearted?’
’This wasn’t the outcome he’d been hoping for.’
Yuan Lang shot the scrawny male a chilling glance, then turned to Wu Yue. "I’ve already asked everything I needed to. He’s all yours."
He was done with the beating, but he showed no intention of leaving. Waving his friends away, he followed Wu Yue into the newcomers’ living quarters.
"What is it? Do you have a suspicion?"
Wu Yue shook her head. "Nothing yet. But I’ve ruled out the theory that the comas are caused by injury, because the newest victim—a child—has no wounds on his body."
"These people from the smaller tribes are already in poor health, let alone a child. His constitution is probably even weaker than the two injured Beastman Warriors."
The young female, who was in the middle of her search, froze. "That’s a possibility, too."
Even so, Wu Yue didn’t abandon her suspicions. She still felt that there was something strange about these comas.
Looking at the other young children, Wu Yue’s voice softened considerably. "Tell me, has anything strange happened in your tribe recently?"
