Chapter 570 - 568: I Will Find a Way to Save You
Her words struck a chord deep within him. His heart, which had been so calm and steady, began to pound violently, and with it came wave after wave of heartache.
He’d been in here for days, and besides Archie Lockwood occasionally stopping by to gloat, no one else had come to see him.
Even his own mother was nowhere to be found.
But he didn’t care. He had never had anyone he was attached to, and there was certainly no one he wanted to see.
’And he had figured as much. This woman... she hadn’t come to see him for so long. She probably heard he’d been arrested and just ran off. After all, what they had was just a transaction. There were no feelings involved.’
But now, this woman was telling him that twelve years was nothing; she could wait.
It felt as though something between them had changed. He wasn’t sure what it was, but his heart was suddenly filled to the brim with an inexplicable, bittersweet sorrow...
The intense emotion made him shoot up from his chair. He strode to the door and pounded on it. BANG! BANG! The door opened from the outside, and a prison guard glared at Jason Lockwood, annoyed. "What’s wrong?"
"Take me back! I don’t want to see this woman. From now on, if she comes to see me, I refuse to see her!" Jason Lockwood snapped before being escorted away by the two other guards waiting outside.
Jasmine Warren watched him leave, snapping back to her senses only after he was gone. She hurried out the door and shouted after him, "I’ll find a way to get you out! Jason Lockwood, take care of yourself! No matter what, even if it’s really twelve years, I can wait for you!"
Hearing her words, Jason Lockwood’s steps faltered. His hands clenched tightly into fists, and a complex mix of emotions swirled in his eyes. It felt as if a part of his heart was being viciously squeezed.
He had never imagined that one day, after being arrested, someone would say such things to him.
Even if she was just lying to him in this moment, he felt he could die without any regrets...
Seeing him stop, one of the guards beside him gave him a shove. "Get a move on!"
The push brought him back to his senses. With a bitter smile tugging at his lips, he walked forward.
Jasmine Warren wiped away her tears, left the room, and walked off in the opposite direction.
Once outside the prison, she took out her phone to make a call, then hailed a cab and left.
「Sovereign Pictures.」
「In the office.」
Mika Summers was a little surprised as she looked at the devil-may-care young man before her. But then, his actions grew even more audacious. He reached out, tilted her chin up, and studied her closely.
Mika Summers’s expression darkened. She slapped his hand away and said coldly, her tone sharp with displeasure, "Show some respect. I’m your elder. You’re being awfully familiar. Be careful, or your uncle will thrash you when he gets here."
Quincy Grayson tutted and flashed a roguish grin. "My uncle sure has good taste. I don’t know what he did in a past life to get so lucky and marry a woman as beautiful as you, Auntie."
"Pfft! You little rascal. Sign the contract first, then you can try to butter me up." No one dislikes a compliment, and Mika Summers was no exception. She couldn’t help but chuckle softly as she pushed the contract across the desk toward him.
"Sign? Of course, I’ll sign. I have to. Once the contract is signed, it’ll be much more convenient for you and me to see each other, Auntie." As he spoke, Quincy Grayson shot Mika Summers a suggestive wink, leaving her to interpret its meaning.
Just then, Tristan Grayson walked into the office. The first thing he saw was Quincy Grayson perched on the desk, leaning right up against his wife. Without a word, Tristan yanked Quincy off the desk and aimed a kick at him. "Get lost!"
"Ow! Ow!" Quincy Grayson yelped. Rubbing his backside, he looked over his shoulder. The moment he saw it was Tristan Grayson, he meekly grabbed the contract and scurried over to the sofa to sit down.
Tristan Grayson glanced at a perfectly calm Mika Summers and asked worriedly, "That little punk wasn’t harassing you, was he?"
"Uncle, you’ve got it all wrong! I just got back. When would I have time to harass Auntie?" Quincy Grayson cut in before Mika Summers had a chance to respond.
Hearing Quincy Grayson speak, Tristan Grayson shot him a glare that could kill. Quincy immediately shut his mouth, tugging his lips into what he hoped was an innocent expression.
"From now on, if this punk gets fresh with you, just smack him. I don’t care where you are, don’t hesitate to hit him."
"Pfft. Okay, I’ll do as you say. If he ever dares to get fresh with me again, I’ll smack him," Mika Summers said with a smile and a nod.
Seeing that his own aunt had agreed, Quincy Grayson felt even more wronged and unhappy. "Hey! Uncle, you can’t do this! I’m a public figure, for crying out loud. How can you encourage Auntie to do that? Besides, if my image takes a hit, it’ll reflect poorly on our company."
"I’m starting to regret bringing you back. Look at you—how long have you even been back in the country? And how many rumored girlfriends have you already racked up? More than I can count on both hands."
"That just goes to show how charming I am. This is a level of charm you can’t just envy your way into, Uncle." At this, Quincy Grayson narcissistically adjusted his collar, smoothed down his hair, and wore a look of utter pride.
Hearing Quincy Grayson’s words, Tristan Grayson looked like he wanted nothing more than to walk over and beat him to a pulp.
But then he remembered this little punk had to be on camera tomorrow to make money for the company, so he had to restrain himself. After glaring at Quincy Grayson for what felt like the hundredth time, he finally tore his gaze away and looked at Mika Summers. "Honey, are you done with work? If you are, let’s go get some dinner."
"I can’t. I made plans to have dinner with Jasmine today."
"Can I come with you?" Tristan Grayson asked, sounding a little hurt and dissatisfied.
’He’d thought that after getting married, he’d be able to stick to his wife’s side every single day. But who would have thought that bastard Silas Kent would just dump a whole company on him?’
’He’d even wondered how Silas Kent could be so generous, just letting it all go like that. Turns out, it was all a dirty trick! They were married now, sure, but his wife was only getting busier and busier.’
’No quality time together, no honeymoon—nothing.’
’Now, he couldn’t even have a simple meal with her.’
At this thought, Tristan Grayson shot another vicious glare at Quincy Grayson, the gears in his mind turning rapidly.
Quincy Grayson had just finished signing the contract and was about to stand up when he suddenly felt a chill run through him. He looked up and met Tristan Grayson’s cold, calculating gaze. He couldn’t help but shiver, offering an apologetic smile. "Uncle, wh-what’s with that look?" ’He’d only stared at Auntie a little. Did his uncle really have to be this scary about it? Big deal. So he stared a few times. He’d just let Auntie stare back to make it even.’
"It’s nothing. I just think that you’re not a kid anymore. You can’t spend your entire life in the spotlight as an entertainer."
