Mika Summers grabbed Una Sullivan’s arm, crying as she asked, "Mom, who is Yuna Sullivan? Who is she, really?"
Una Sullivan looked at her daughter. She opened her mouth, but no words came out. Instead, her crying only grew more heartbreaking.
Tristan Grayson rushed over and pulled Mika Summers’s hand away. "Honey," he said urgently, "can’t you see Mom is heartbroken right now? Whatever it is, we can talk about it when we get home."
"You knew? Tristan Grayson, you knew too?"
"Yes, I know a little, but not the whole story. We’ll need Mom and Dad to explain the details to us."
Seeing Mika Summers so distraught, Una Sullivan finally spoke through her sobs. "Mika, you have to believe me. I never, ever intended to hurt Chen."
"I don’t know who to believe anymore," Mika Summers said, a bitter, tearful smile on her face. "If you’re really the ones who destroyed my brother’s family, then after all this... I think he’d be right to disown you."
Joseph Summers realized his daughter was jumping to the wrong conclusion and corrected her sharply. "What nonsense is this? Don’t let your imagination run wild. Your mother and I have never done anything unconscionable." With that, Joseph Summers motioned for Tristan Grayson to open the car door. "Let’s go."
「One hour later, at the Grayson residence.」
The sofas were filled with people: Joseph and Una Summers, Caleb Grayson and Mae Lynch, Ian Shaw, Aiden Avery, Tristan Grayson, Mika Summers, and Tiana.
Mae Lynch was utterly shocked, as if she had just heard earth-shattering news. "You and Yuna Sullivan are blood sisters?"
"Yes." Una Sullivan wiped away her tears and nodded. "My older sister... back then, she insisted on marrying a local hoodlum, and my parents were dead set against it. Then, she got pregnant. My parents’ objections were useless, so they kicked her out of the house. She never came back after that, and our families completely severed ties."
"If that’s the case, then how did you end up adopting Chen?" Mae Lynch asked in surprise.
"After my sister married, she had a son and daughter within a few years. But we heard that her husband beat her constantly and was a loafer with no real job. To support them, my sister found work. Our family always just thought she was working out of town. We never expected that one day, her husband would be suddenly arrested for rape and likely jailed for life. Then, my sister ran off with a rich man. Joseph and I felt awful for the two poor children and decided we would find them and take them in."
"We searched all over town for a month but couldn’t find them. Then, on our way home, we came across Chen. He had been in a car accident; the driver was dead. We rescued him and took him to the hospital. When Chen woke up, he couldn’t answer any of our questions. He didn’t remember anything at all. So, we brought him home with us."
Joseph Summers nodded and explained, "It was all a coincidence. We truly never imagined that Chen’s stepmother was Yuna Sullivan."
"Then... doesn’t that make Jason Lockwood my cousin? Mom, how can someone so evil be our relative?" Mika Summers couldn’t bring herself to accept this reality...
"Mika, I didn’t wish for this to be the truth either. I can’t imagine she could be that kind of person." What she didn’t mention was that back when Chen was in school, someone from the Lockwood family had found them.
