Chapter 458 - 456: Regretting Resignation Immediately
Wu Xiaoya ignored him and, as instructed, took Wang Gang to process his resignation.
Although the boss had criticized her, she believed he had handled the situation perfectly. His timely intervention meant the company didn’t need to pay extra compensation. The criticism wasn’t punishment; it was a lesson. If every employee could get fired with a severance package just by badmouthing the company, things would descend into chaos. Moreover, if she, as the administrative manager, ignored people slandering the boss to her face, it would be a dereliction of duty. Before this, she’d thought her performance was adequate, but now she realized she still had a lot to learn.
...
With the boss’s approval, Wang Gang’s resignation process went very smoothly. In just half an hour, all his wages had been deposited into his account. Wu Xiaoya personally escorted him to the exit of the car dealership.
Just before he left, she smiled at Wang Gang and said, "By the way, regarding what you said earlier, if the boss were to actually pursue it, a defamation charge against you would absolutely hold up."
Wang Gang’s triumphant expression froze. He asked instinctively, "What do you mean?"
"You’ve been hiding in the bathroom to play games during work hours, haven’t you?"
The color drained from Wang Gang’s face. "Manager Wu, what are you getting at? Are you trying to settle scores now that it’s all over? I’m not a Xi Yuan employee anymore. My wages are settled, and I won’t accept any punishment from you."
Wu Xiaoya smiled faintly. "See? I haven’t even finished, and you’re already getting worked up."
Wang Gang looked at her warily. "Then what do you mean?"
Could it be? Now that all the paperwork is done, is the company planning to blacklist me?
"If the company really wanted to hold things against you, you would have been punished the very first time you went to the bathroom to play that game. I’m only bringing this up to tell you that this game... it was also developed by our boss."
"What did you say?"
"I said, that game was jointly developed by our boss and two of his classmates. What’s more, back then, the boss didn’t even know his wife was the heiress of the Lin Corporation. What you think is cleverness is just you making a fool of yourself in everyone else’s eyes. You’re lucky our boss doesn’t hold grudges, otherwise... Anyway, this is as far as I’ll see you out. I wish you a bright and prosperous future."
With that, Wu Xiaoya turned and walked back into the dealership without a second glance, leaving a stunned Wang Gang standing there, his thoughts in turmoil.
It took him quite a while to come to his senses.
"The nationally popular King’s Game... belongs to Xue Yang?"
He quickly pulled out his phone, searched for the game’s registration details, and looked up Xue Yang’s name online. The result was no surprise: he was one of the controlling shareholders of TIMI Company. In fact, his stake was larger than that of the other two combined. You could say King’s Game was his and his alone.
With that kind of backing, a large auto market is nothing special. If he wanted to, opening another one would be easy. However, he currently has no such plans. Instead, his focus is on electric vehicle charging stations. Wang Gang was no fool. New energy vehicles are the way of the future. As soon as that market shows potential, swarms of people will rush in to get a piece of the action. Xue Yang has already gotten the first slice of the pie, so there is no need for him to follow the trend. Instead, he is carving out a new path. EV charging stations are an excellent choice. This Xue Yang... he’s the real deal. If I followed him, even if I could never surpass him, I’d definitely be better off than most people.
Having just resigned, Wang Gang was already filled with regret. He wanted to go back.
But trying to go back right after quitting... whether or not they would even take me back is one thing. I’d undoubtedly be ridiculed. I could probably stomach the ridicule. My biggest fear is begging, being ridiculed, and still not being allowed back in the end.
Wang Gang hesitated on the spot for nearly half an hour before finally leaving reluctantly.
At worst, I can just try again after some time has passed. Yes, by then, they’ll probably have forgotten all about this. Even if this doesn’t work out, I could become an agent for the charging stations. Being my own boss is what really matters.
This line of thought made Wang Gang feel a little better, and he was finally able to leave.
...
「Back at Xi Yuan」
After dealing with Wang Gang, Xue Yang gathered all the employees. Standing in the center, he had the air of someone leading a school assembly.
"There are some things I don’t want to explain twice, so I’ll keep this short," he began. "Regarding today’s incident with Wang Gang, I’ll just say a few things. Xi Yuan Auto Market supports freedom of speech. However, if anyone intentionally slanders others or tries to stir up trouble, we will show no mercy. Alright, that’s all I have to say. Meeting adjourned!"
With that, Xue Yang left, leaving a dumbfounded crowd in his wake.
"What did the boss mean by that?" Many people wracked their brains but still couldn’t understand.
"I have no idea."
"This is harder to figure out than a college entrance exam question."
"What’s so hard to understand?" Wu Xiaoya clarified for the group. "The boss’s meaning is simple: everything he’s achieved to this day is a result of his own ability. Instead of standing around discussing the boss’s abilities, you should be thinking about how you can make more money on the platform he’s provided for you."
The others might not have fully grasped her first point, but her last sentence was the plain truth.
She’s right. Why worry so much about other people’s business? Making money is what truly matters. The boss has already built the platform for us. If we still can’t succeed... who can we blame? Only ourselves for being useless and not seizing the opportunity we were given.
"And one more thing," Wu Xiaoya added. "When you have time to play games, you should also take some time to learn about the games you’re playing."
With that, Wu Xiaoya organized everyone to leave in an orderly fashion.
"What did Manager Wu mean by that last bit?"
"I don’t know. What’s wrong with games? Can’t we play a round to relax after work?"
"She didn’t say we can’t play. She just said we should understand the games we play."
That’s true...
"What games do you guys play?" someone asked out of the blue.
Games were like gossip; if someone brought it up, others were sure to join in. And just like that, the conversation took off.
"King’s Game, of course. Who doesn’t play it these days?"
"I play that game too! What are your IDs? We should team up sometime!"
"Me, me! My ID is ’Thirsty Fish.’ Who’s up for a round?"
"Wait... Manager Wu said to understand the game we’re playing, not to play it right now, right?"
"Well, this is understanding it, isn’t it? Getting to know it better right now should be fine, right?"
...
