Chapter 741: Don’t Recognize This Deputy Commander!
Xu Yihan didn’t dare speak recklessly anymore.
Putting Yang Qi aside, the expert by his side was terrifying. She hadn’t even had time to react. If he were an enemy, she would be dead now.
Yang Qi’s Medical Skills were also terrifying. With a single Elixir, her injuries had healed rapidly—she couldn’t help but be impressed.
After making some arrangements regarding Thunder City, Yang Qi got into Xu Yihan’s car.
He sat in the back seat with her.
Xu Yihan gazed at Yang Qi, her curiosity piqued. Unfathomable, truly unfathomable. This youth looks no older than seventeen or eighteen, but he’s really twenty-five? And how does he command an expert of that caliber? Which prominent family is he from?
"Is there something on my face?" Yang Qi asked.
"No, it’s not that. It’s nothing," she said. "We’re heading to the Western Territory, and it’s a long journey. We will be traveling by private jet, so I just wanted to inform you in advance. If you need anything or have any questions, please feel free to ask me."
Xu Yihan still believed Yang Qi’s Combat Power was inferior to her own, making him unqualified for the Forbidden Land. But she was no longer as arrogant as she had been before.
Impressive Medical Skills, powerful subordinates... all these things were part of Yang Qi’s mystique. She had to learn to show him respect.
"Understood."
Yang Qi didn’t bother asking too many questions. Based on his understanding of the War God King, if the man had invited him, it meant he believed Yang Qi was capable enough for the task.
Xu Yihan hesitated, looking like she wanted to say something but couldn’t.
"Just say what’s on your mind. There’s no need to mince words," Yang Qi said calmly, having noticed her hesitation.
"Deputy Commander, I was disrespectful to you earlier because I had doubts about your Combat Power. I’m not the only one who doubts your capabilities. I still think that once you get to the Western Territory, it would be best not to announce that you’re the Deputy Commander of the War God Guard. Just stay by the War God King’s side to avoid any trouble," Xu Yihan said, finally mustering her courage after some thought.
"That won’t do," Yang Qi said with a faint smile. "Since I’m the Deputy Commander of the War God Guard, it’s only right that I meet them now that I’m going to the Western Territory."
Xu Yihan frowned, rendered utterly speechless. This man really has a death wish. He’s going to the Western Territory without that bodyguard of his. If he gets beaten up, I certainly can’t protect him. Is this Yang Qi one of those legendary rich young masters? Is he so used to throwing his weight around that he thinks the people in the War God Guard will give him face? He’s sorely mistaken! The War God Guard is a place where true ability is all that matters. If you don’t have the skills, even a recommendation from the War God King himself is useless. Sigh, I’d better give the War God King a heads-up. It would be an embarrassment if this new Deputy Commander got thrashed by his own men inside the War God Guard. With this thought, Xu Yihan made her decision.
She felt that Yang Qi was a decent person. At the very least, he had given her an Elixir and hadn’t allowed his bodyguard to cripple her. Besides, he was someone personally sought out by the War God King. If something happened to him, she wouldn’t be able to bear the responsibility.
Of course, Yang Qi had no idea what Xu Yihan was thinking. He was simply curious about why the War God King had summoned him, and what exactly this so-called Forbidden Land was.
「Meanwhile, somewhere in the Western Territory.」
The War God Guard headquarters.
The War God Guard consisted of one hundred regular members, plus one Commander and one Deputy Commander. However, the support staff who served them—including logistics, intelligence, and instructors—numbered in the thousands. All of them existed to support these hundred or so members, whose combined Combat Power was comparable to an army of 100,000 soldiers. They had once annihilated an entire nation. It was no joke; on average, its members were Overlord Level experts.
At that moment, the War God Guard had just finished their Cultivation and were gathered together to rest and chat casually.
"Where’s that girl, Xu Yihan?"
"Oh, I heard she went to pick up our new Deputy Commander."
"Deputy Commander? I won’t acknowledge him. What’s the use of a Deputy Commander who can’t even beat me? And why send someone to fetch him? Why send the War God Guard’s most beautiful goddess to do it?"
"I heard it’s about a Forbidden Land. The War God King gave the order personally. Apparently, only Martial Artists under thirty can enter."
"Sounds like he’s an expert then, eh?"
"Expert? I did some digging," a refined and scholarly-looking man said. "He’s a Third Rank Overlord, twenty-five years old, and his greatest strength seems to be his Medical Skills."
"A Third Rank Overlord? That’s barely a passing grade in the War God Guard. Xu Yihan was only accepted as a special exception." This news made the crowd even less pleased.
"Exactly! We’re the War God Guard, not the Divine Doctor Guard. Recruiting a doctor to be our Deputy Commander—what is the War God King thinking?"
"All of you, shut up!" Suddenly, a cold voice rang out. "Since when do you have the gall to question the War God King?"
"Commander White Tiger!"
The crowd shivered. He was the White Tiger God General, one of the five great Divine Generals who served the War God King. He was also their Commander and was known as the strongest of the Divine Generals. Aside from the War God King himself, no one could match his Combat Power.
The mission to annihilate that nation was led by the White Tiger God General. With 102 people, they had crushed an enemy army of hundreds of thousands. Their only sacrifice had been their Deputy Commander. This was precisely why they resented the newcomer; their former Deputy Commander had died for them, and they found it difficult to accept a replacement.
"Commander White Tiger, we aren’t questioning the War God King," the scholarly man said after a moment of thought. "It’s just that anyone replacing Deputy Commander Liu should at least have some real skills. Otherwise, Deputy Commander Liu himself wouldn’t be able to rest in peace."
"Poet, have you cooked up any clever schemes... ah, no, good ideas?" White Tiger asked the scholarly man with a smile. Within the War God Guard, members went by codenames instead of their real names. Xu Yihan, being a newcomer, didn’t have one yet; otherwise, she would never have revealed her true name.
In truth, he was also curious to see what kind of skills a person appointed by the War God King possessed. Therefore, he didn’t object to his men testing the new Deputy Commander.
"Commander White Tiger, hearing you say that means you agree! That’s great, we’re experts at this sort of thing," a burly man laughed heartily.
"Black Bear, it looks like you’ll be playing the lead," Poet said with a laugh.
Because this scholarly-looking man often enjoyed composing poetry, it had earned him the codename "Poet."
"No problem," Black Bear grinned. "When he gets here, if he can withstand ten moves from me, I, Black Bear, will acknowledge him as our Deputy Commander."
"Aren’t those terms a bit too harsh?" Poet chuckled. "In terms of one-on-one combat, you’re considered top-tier within the War God Guard, second only to Commander White Tiger. Isn’t that just bullying the new guy?"
"That’s why I only said he needs to withstand ten of my moves," Black Bear laughed. "I never said he had to beat me."
White Tiger didn’t object. He too was eager to see what kind of man this new Deputy Commander truly was.
