Infinite Regeneration In The Apocalypse

Chapter 178: Eternal Realm(Fixed)

For the next several hours, the convoy of armored buses traveled deeper into the wilderness, following what appeared to be a well-established but unmarked route through the dense forest.

Vogue maintained his meditative state while keeping peripheral awareness of his surroundings through the defensive field. He could feel the bus occasionally swerving to avoid obstacles or difficult terrain, hear the muffled sounds of the forest outside, sense the steady hum of the powerful engines working to maintain speed.

The other passengers had settled into an uneasy quiet. Some appeared to be meditating like Vogue. Others stared out the windows with obvious fascination, watching the wilderness pass by—many of them probably seeing true untamed nature for the first time in their lives.

Tryston Bane and his companions had retreated into hushed conversation, occasionally glancing in Vogue's direction with calculating expressions. But they made no further provocative moves, apparently content to wait and observe for now.

As the sun began setting and darkness crept across the forest, Vogue noticed the convoy slowing down significantly. The buses spread out slightly from their tight formation, creating more distance between vehicles.

Preparing for night travel through dangerous territory, Vogue understood. They're giving each bus more room to maneuver independently in case something attacks.

He wasn't wrong to be cautious.

As full darkness descended and the buses activated their external lighting systems, casting brilliant beams through the forest, the atmosphere changed noticeably. The spiritual energy in the air became more volatile, carrying hints of predatory intent and dangerous presences lurking just beyond sight.

Then came the first attack.

A massive shape erupted from the tree line ahead—too fast for the lead bus to avoid. The creature was approximately thirty meters long, covered in bark-like black scales that reflected the headlight beams with an ominous sheen.

A Sunfiend Lizard, Vogue identified immediately, his eyes snapping open as alarms blared through the bus's interior. Peak Stellar Knight equivalent strength, extremely aggressive territorial predator.

The lizard's four clawed feet churned the ground as it charged directly at the convoy with shocking speed despite its massive size. Its jaws opened wide, revealing rows of serrated teeth and a throat glowing with gathering fire energy.

The lead bus didn't slow down or attempt to evade. Instead, defensive formations blazed to life across its armored hull, and mounted weapons emerged from concealed ports along its roof and sides.

Multiple concentrated energy blasts shot forward, striking the charging lizard head-on with devastating force. The creature's scales, tough enough to deflect most conventional weapons, cracked and shattered under the barrage.

The Sunfiend Lizard let out a pained roar and veered away from the convoy, retreating into the forest with surprising speed for something so injured.

But before anyone could relax, warning calls came from multiple directions simultaneously.

More Sunfiend Lizards were emerging from the forest on both flanks and from behind. They had been waiting in ambush, using the first lizard as a distraction while they positioned themselves for coordinated attack.

Vogue counted at least six more of the massive predators closing in on the convoy from different angles, their movements displaying clear pack-hunting intelligence rather than mindless beast behavior.

They're not just randomly aggressive, Vogue observed. They're actually hunting us deliberately, using tactics and coordination.

The buses immediately accelerated, their powerful engines roaring as they tried to outrun the encircling predators. But the Sunfiend Lizards were built for short bursts of incredible speed, and several of them managed to close within striking distance.

One particularly large lizard—easily forty meters long and radiating spiritual pressure equivalent to early Luminous Realm—launched itself at Bus 7 with terrifying velocity.

The impact when it struck the side of the vehicle was tremendous. The entire bus rocked violently, tilting dangerously to one side as the lizard's claws scraped across the armored hull, searching for purchase.

Inside, passengers who hadn't secured their restraint harnesses were thrown from their seats. Shouts of alarm and anger filled the interior as people scrambled to stabilize themselves.

Vogue remained calmly seated, his harness holding him securely in place. His eyes tracked the lizard's position through the treated windows, watching it cling to the bus's exterior and attempt to tear through the armored plating.

The bus's defensive systems activated automatically, releasing bursts of electrical discharge that crackled across the hull. The Sunfiend Lizard roared in pain and fury but didn't release its grip, continuing to attack with desperate intensity.

It's not letting go, Vogue realized. It knows if it falls off while the bus is moving at this speed, it'll be left behind and lose its prey.

One of the other passengers—a young woman with short red hair and confident bearing—suddenly stood up despite the violent rocking. She moved to one of the emergency weapon ports built into the bus's interior walls and activated it with practiced efficiency.

A panel slid aside, revealing a mounted energy weapon that could be manually controlled from inside the vehicle. The woman grabbed the controls and aimed at the lizard clinging to their bus.

"Everyone stay back from the left side!" she shouted, then opened fire.

Concentrated blasts of spiritual energy shot through specially reinforced firing ports, striking the Sunfiend Lizard at point-blank range. The creature's scales, already damaged by the defensive electrical discharge, couldn't withstand this sustained assault.

With a final agonized roar, the lizard released its grip and fell away from the speeding bus, tumbling across the ground before crashing into trees.

The convoy continued accelerating, leaving the pack of Sunfiend Lizards behind as they pursued with gradually decreasing intensity. Eventually, the predators gave up the chase and retreated into their territory, apparently deciding the mobile fortresses were too difficult to bring down for the effort required.

As the immediate danger passed, the interior of Bus 7 erupted into various reactions. Some passengers were breathing hard with obvious fear and adrenaline. Others appeared excited by the brief combat, their eyes bright with battle-lust.

Tryston Bane wore a contemplative expression, clearly analyzing what he'd just witnessed. His gaze flickered briefly to Vogue, perhaps wondering how the dual-talent student would have reacted if the situation had become more dire.

Vogue simply closed his eyes again and returned to meditation, his heartbeat already back to normal resting rate. The attack had been exciting in an abstract way, but not genuinely threatening given the bus's defenses and the presence of so many capable cultivators.

If the buses couldn't handle Stellar Knight equivalent beasts, they would never use this route regularly, Vogue reasoned. This was probably a routine encounter they experience on every journey.

The red-haired woman who had operated the weapon secured the port again and returned to her seat, receiving nods of acknowledgment from several other passengers for her quick action.

The convoy traveled through the night without stopping, the buses' powerful engines maintaining speed despite the rough terrain. More attacks came periodically—smaller predators testing the convoy's defenses, opportunistic scavengers hoping for easy prey, territorial beasts defending their domains.

But the armored vehicles' combination of defensive formations, mounted weapons, and speed proved sufficient to handle each threat without requiring the passengers to personally engage in combat.

As dawn light began filtering through the forest canopy, Vogue finally opened his eyes and looked out the window with genuine interest.

The landscape had changed dramatically overnight. They had passed through the dense forest zone and were now traveling across more open terrain—rocky hills dotted with strange vegetation that glowed faintly with spiritual energy.

And in the distance, visible even from this far away, Vogue could see something that made his breath catch despite his usual composure.

Water.

A vast expanse of blue stretching to the horizon—far larger than any lake or river. The ocean.

Vogue had seen images and holographic recordings of the ocean before, of course. But like everyone else on this bus who had grown up in the post-apocalypse world, he had never actually witnessed it in person.

The sea had become one of the most dangerous places in existence after the global crisis. The spiritual energy radiation near ocean water was so dense that even powerful cultivators couldn't survive extended exposure. And the creatures that dwelled in those depths were nightmare-level threats that made land-based spirit beasts seem tame by comparison.

For these reasons, the oceans had become effectively forbidden zones—vast territories that humanity had completely abandoned, leaving them to whatever monsters had adapted to the extreme conditions.

Several other passengers had apparently noticed the ocean view as well, because excited murmuring began spreading through the bus.

"Is that… the actual ocean?"

"I've never seen so much water in my entire life…"

"It's so blue! So clear!"

Even Tryston Bane's cold expression showed a hint of wonder as he stared at the distant sea, clearly fascinated despite himself.

One particularly enthusiastic passenger—a young man with an unusually long tongue that he apparently couldn't fully control—was pressing his face against the window and making excited sounds.

"The salty taste in the air is actually real!" he exclaimed, his tongue somehow managing to extend far enough to actually lick the interior glass of the window. "I can taste the salt from here!"
