(BL) Taming the Field Guide

Chapter 309: Planning has never been so hot (suggestive)

Did Kellen and Rhys get a little too touchy-feely before they even stepped into the shower? Maybe.

Did they waste too much water? Also possible, but they had worked up enough of a sweat and had made enough of a mess that they needed to get a shower now. Kellen himself was sticky from Rhys’ cum, it trickling down his chest and sliding into the folds of his skin below. His own cum mixed with Rhys’ making for an even sticker situation.

Kellen was sure his face was warm, Rhys’ cheeks glowing as his chest heaved.

Rhys’ hair was a mess, his lips damp from Kellen’s own affections, and Kellen couldn’t think of a sweeter image before him. His lover, his eyes golden, his hair a mess, his face flushed, and he was staring at him like a starved animal.

"Let’s get through this shower in one piece." Kellen murmured. Rhys gripped Kellen’s ass in his hands, squeezing the meat there as Kellen’s face warmed.

"Is that for me or for you?" Rhys asked, his voice lower, urgent. Kellen let out a soft laugh.

"Ha. Good question. I’m not sure." Kellen admitted. "But I am aware that this shower isn’t as big as our one back home and I’d rather not go to Uncle Vance and have to explain that we slipped." Kellen told his lover. Rhys’ responding smile melted Kellen’s heart.

"Alright." Rhys groaned, putting on a show. He huffed, dropping his shoulders, but Kellen knew he wasn’t actually upset. His eyes were too warm, his smile too bright. He lowered Kellen slowly to his feet, taking a little longer so that he truly rubbed Kellen against every available inch of his skin. It was also an impressive show of power.

Rhys being able to manipulate Kellen’s weight so easily was a turn on. Kellen wondered if with his new strength he’d be able to do the same? He’d been able to pick up Rhys before, but he needed to confirm how far his new strength went.

Would he be able to do things that could impress Rhys too? That thought was as intriguing as it was dangerous and Rhys didn’t even know he was having it. Rhys, ignorant to the dangerous thoughts that Kellen was having, took his fiance’s hand in his own and gently tugged him towards the shower.

Finally, the two were under the warm stream of water, and they wasted no time in cleaning up.

Kellen did need some of Rhys’ help to scrub some of the paint from his skin, sudsing up the other man several times to remove the last of the paint until Kellen sparkled and shined. His skin had a slight red hue to it because of the scrubbing, but Kellen’s skin didn’t feel raw. After all, nothing could feel as raw as his hand practically dissolving entirely.

Rhys was the one who got them the soft, warm towels. That was something of his power that Kellen questioned often. How was he able to make things warm like this again when it had been a while since it had been warmed up?

Rhys argued that he needed some secrets, especially since he was going to become his tutor and mentor in earnest now that Kellen needed proper guidance and help. Kellen wanted to argue that he’d always needed help, but if Rhys was going to be so sweet and look at him like he hung the moon and stars in the sky, he wasn’t feeling like he should argue.

Thankfully, Rhys explained more about what he meant by that without much prompting. After all, he knew who his fiancé was, and giving an easy answer like that wouldn’t satisfy him properly. Rhys was going for the whole package reward, not just the random junk pile that kids thought were rewards after a semi-difficult task.

Rhys explained that now that it seemed that Kellen’s powers had somewhat leveled out, now Rhys could finally start actually working with him and figure out what his powers could do. They knew that like Rhys he could see the future, but he hadn’t seen the past at all yet. That might just be an inexperience issue, or it could mean that Kellen never did.

Rhys had met several Time Espers who hadn’t had the ability, but it hadn’t mattered much because he had awakened in a time when seeing the past or the future had made you go crazy. Kellen hoped, for Rhys’ sake, that he was able to see both because to Kellen? It looked like seeing both might help balance out the awful.

He wasn’t sure if that was the case, or just his hopeful thinking, but that was something he hoped. Kellen did know that one of the surefire ways that Kellen would remain himself and not worry Rhys endlessly was if he was able to reset himself.

So far it didn’t appear that Kellen could do that, and he could tell that Rhys was worried regardless of what powers Kellen manifested with this Esper power he’d been...given? Found? He wasn’t exactly sure how to refer to it because it came to him like a stumbling drunk who’d just happened to run into him. He hadn’t woken up grateful for the powers, and certainly no one in his life had looked forward to him having them either.

Either way, Kellen had the ability to see the future. This future often manifested as visions or ’gut feelings’ for Kellen. These futures weren’t multiple like some of Rhys’ visions were. He couldn’t select what future he wanted, it was more like he was seeing an immediate problem or something that would harm him.

His visions didn’t tell him what to do to prevent the issue, but they did help Kellen act in a way that would prevent it. His visions were different from Rhys’ because Rhys didn’t get to see visions that pertained to things that were important to him. As he got more involved with the world around him it became harder and harder for him to feel like he was important in preventing issues.

Kellen wasn’t the same. Kellen could see the future regardless of how close he was to it. Case and point, saving Uncle Parker, and on a smaller scale, probably saving his Dad’s life as well.

Kellen was a bit surprised to hear Rhys bring that up, but as he explained that he’d had a lot of time to consider what Kellen’s powers could mean and how long they had actually been around, Kellen being able to act a split second before his Dad was shot might have been his powers in action.

They had been weaker at the time, and thus not able to fully see the situation, but he had been able to do something that a normal civilian wouldn’t be able to do. There was the chance that Kellen had just been able to sense malice or he had been so tuned into his own combat abilities that he was able to sense something like that, but Rhys was doubtful.

Only because Kellen had always been able to do the impossible. From a very early stage. Did it sting that Rhys thought that Kellen had always had this ability and thus it felt rather invalidating to all of his struggles? Yeah, it fucking sucked in Kellen’s opinion, but he needed to be objective.

From Rhys’ soft, worried expression he was worried discussing this would have the reaction that Kellen was having. That was probably why he had avoided having it until now, but being objective...there was a high likelihood that Kellen wasn’t getting out of impossible situations because of his willpower and his grit.

Those did play a part, and Rhys was the first one to point that out. You couldn’t do half of the things that Kellen was capable of and survive without a good head on his shoulders and the ability to see the right paths ahead. Rhys did not want to take away from those parts of Kellen.

Kellen also wouldn’t then be able to train others to be able to do what he was capable of doing if there wasn’t a skill to it, not just an inherent ability. The success of the Field Guides he was training was proof of that. Kellen just had...an upper hand that made him more desirable to have in the market.

If they looked at Brent and all that he was capable of, did Kellen think he was weaker than him? That he was less capable? No, he wasn’t. Their skillsets were the same, but slightly altered to fit their personalities. Kellen had an ability that had helped him get through the difficulties of the front lines the same way Brent did, Kellen’s was just backed by Esper powers where Brent’s wasn’t.

When Kellen asked what Brent’s powers were, Rhys hesitated before answering. He wasn’t expecting Rhys to say his magnetic personality, but hearing it from Rhys’ lips had made Kellen laugh out loud.

That was true, Brent was more personable than Kellen. That was the truth, and in a way, yes, it was a superpower. One that Brent had crafted all on his own, so now it was up to Kellen to craft and mold his new power into something that he could use.

Rhys admitted that he was hesitant to use the methods that had been used on him to help Kellen figure out where his powers lay. It wasn’t a fun process, and it had been the reason that Gunther had been taken with him.

Kellen narrowed his eyes at that, this being the first time that he’d heard it. In fact, it sounded like Gunther had been held as a hostage instead of a needed A Class Esper who had recently awakened and had nowhere else to go. Rhys was slightly hesitant to confirm that as the truth, but Kellen felt it.

Maybe it was his newfound powers calling Rhys a liar, or Kellen’s own ability to read the man, but he had a feeling that he was lying. Up until Rhys admitted it as truth. They hadn’t needed Gunther at the time. They had considered him an extra bonus, but a fresh-faced, new S Class Esper? That was underage? That had interested the D.E.C. run under Uncle Tom far more than Gunther ever could have.

They had sadly underestimated how close Gunther and Rhys had been when they brought them in, or the horrific things that they had lived through. In a way, Gunther’s terrible past and what ’love’ meant to him and his family had probably helped keep him sane during the process, which was a horrible thing to consider thinking back on it. Either way, both men had made it out in one piece, but hearing even a fraction of what Rhys went through to confirm his powers made Kellen want to strangle Uncle Tom.

He couldn’t believe that he was still out there, living freely and not facing the consequences of his actions. He’d have to talk to Lie-Captain Fisher when he got back to see how the search for him went. Kellen would bring him to justice, for Rhys and Gunther’s sake, along with whoever had suffered under his rule.

To others, this serious conversation might not have acted as foreplay. They might have even felt turned off, and sad, but to Kellen and Rhys? It sparked something in each of them. By the time that Rhys had finished speaking, Kellen was ready to pounce on the man.

He hated seeing the darkness in those pretty yellow eyes. Eyes that others would consider belonging to a monster. That wasn’t the case. He was just a man, who bled and hurt and loved like everyone else, and Kellen thought it was his greatest pleasure that he was able to touch him like this. Love him like this.

Be there for him, be a safe space for him to rest. Now, after such a long and heavily anticipated day, it was time for rest and rewards.
