Chapter 338: Abhorred [2]
With his eyes closed, he should not have been able to see his surroundings, so how had he been able to know that there were clouds above his head, and they were converging into each other at the moment, forming an epicentre which was now pierced by the mana pillar that had been shot out from his body?
The questions began to pile up, with no answers to them whatsoever.
The mana in the surroundings was being absorbed into Noah’s body at a tremendous pace, and the speed of its absorption was only increasing with every passing moment.
It was like... the mana was meant to be absorbed by him.
The thought occurred to Noah out of nowhere, and even he couldn’t believe the ridiculousness behind it.
The world’s mana was owned by the world itself, and no one had the right to declare it as their possession.
Even after becoming an Immortal or a Sovereign... no one could command the world’s mana without helping the world in return.
The Immortals used the world’s mana in a mutually beneficial agreement, while the Sovereigns... they provided a stable Anchor for the world to exist upon.
Neither of these Demigods owned the natural mana... they just used it by helping the world in return.
Though Noah was still foreign to the knowledge about Immortals and Sovereigns... one thing he knew for sure was that the way in which his mana core was reacting with the natural mana was something that should not have been possible.
The feeling of being the absolute owner of the mana in nature only intensified as the pillar of mana that had pierced the epicentre of the clouds in the sky went on to become broader and denser than before.
Noah felt the mana in his core draining at an extremely fast pace, but it was replaced by the supply of new mana that was being absorbed by his body from the air around him.
The process went on for minutes with no signs of stopping in between.
But the more time passed, the more Noah felt like he was able to see the world even without being able to open his eyes.
The feeling was new for him, and it was an addicting one.
At first Noah could only sense his body and the clouds above him, but soon he was able to sense and visualise everything around him.
From the stones around him to the structures in the academy.
He could also sense several people standing on the sidelines, observing everything without trying to interfere in the process.
At first Noah was only able to sense their outlines and their mana cores, but soon he was able to clearly distinguish one individual from the other.
Standing at one extreme end was Alicia’s sister, who he had just fought with.
Then besides her—
Noah’s expression darkened as he visualised and felt the image of Kael in his mind.
But Noah wasn’t the only one, as the moment the former sensed Kael’s presence... Kael had already sensed him in return.
And that was when Noah felt it.
A pair of dark eyes observed him in silence, making Noah’s heart beat faster than before.
Was he afraid of Kael?
No.
But Noah surely felt something that he couldn’t put his finger on.
And the feeling only intensified when Kael’s gaze stared into Noah’s body, trying to discern whatever was happening with the latter.
That was when Noah understood the feeling that he was experiencing at the moment. It was something on a far deeper level than his hatred for Kael.
The feeling rose from the depths of his soul and was only intensified by the natural mana entering his body and filling his core with it... only for the core to be drained again, as the mana pillar kept using its mana.
It was the feeling of extreme repulsion towards the being standing before him.
A repulsion that was borne by the very mana in nature.
Noah’s already existing hatred for Kael only went on to deepen that feeling, making the protagonist understand something.
Nature, the world, and all existence... abhorred Kael to its core.
Kael’s existence wasn’t meant to be, but it had been forced to be.
The thought was imprinted in Noah’s mind, but no matter what, he couldn’t understand the meaning behind it.
Did it mean Kael was supposed to be dead?
Or—
Did it mean that Kael was never supposed to be born?
Or—
Several variations of the same question arose in Noah’s mind, but there was no way for him to know which one was the correct interpretation of the thought imprinted in his mind by the world’s mana.
The more time passed, Noah’s connection with nature deepened on a greater level.
His earlier thoughts were now suppressed by another surge of an overwhelming feeling of euphoria.
The feeling of having achieved something and being connected with something—
Involuntarily, Noah’s right hand moved on its own, and so did his palm, which opened its grip as if to welcome something to its embrace.
Noah was now able to open his eyes, and the first thing he saw was another pillar of mana, the same as the one that had originated from his mana core and had pierced the epicentre of the rumbling clouds above his head.
The pillar of mana condensed itself for a few moments before forming a beam of light that launched itself from the epicentre of the clouds to envelop Noah’s palm in its area of influence.
Noah felt a familiar warmth on his palm, which was soon followed by a freezing cold.
The contrast was something that Noah hadn’t expected, but it wasn’t like he was refusing the process.
The warmth intensified and so did the cold, before the two of them formed a fragile balance on Noah’s palm.
Noah, on his part, wasn’t able to see anything as the beam of light had completely hidden his palm.
Letting the beam of mana do its work, Noah raised his head to meet the eyes of all the people who were currently observing him with varying emotions in their eyes.
Even the instructors had now arrived, and so had the major figures of the student body... including the president of the student council.
