Chapter 173: The Entrance Examination (Part-19)
The sky, which had been bright and clear just moments before, changed dramatically. Thick black clouds rolled in from all directions as if summoned by an unseen force, piling on top of each other until they swallowed the sunlight completely.
In the blink of an eye, the entire sky darkened.
It was clearly still daytime, yet the land below was suddenly as dim as late evening.
At the same time, the temperature began to drop.
At first it was only a slight chill in the air, but within seconds the change became obvious. The comfortable summer warmth vanished, replaced by a cold that grew sharper with every passing moment.
Soon the air became biting.
The fierce wind carried that coldness like a blade. When it struck the faces of the surrounding candidates, it felt as if invisible knives were cutting across their skin. Many of them instinctively wrapped their arms around themselves as they shivered.
As the temperature continued to fall, another presence gradually descended from the sky.
It was an invisible yet terrifying aura.
The pressure grew heavier and heavier, spreading slowly across the battlefield. To the candidates from the three regions, it felt as if an enormous weight had suddenly been placed on their heads, making their breathing increasingly difficult.
"What… what's happening?"
"Why did the sky suddenly turn dark?"
"It's freezing! Do you feel that? It's July, how can it suddenly become this cold?"
"Look! That North District candidate… he flew up there!"
"What? That's impossible! What did he do?!"
"What exactly is going on? Can someone explain this?!"
"I… I have a really bad feeling about this…"
"Me too. Something is wrong. That North District candidate suddenly flew into the air, then the sky darkened, the wind rose, and the temperature dropped. This is too strange."
"Doesn't it look like he's casting some kind of dark magic?"
"Or maybe it's an extremely powerful martial skill!"
"No way… will we be affected? Should we… retreat?"
"What kind of martial skill could cause something like this?"
"He… he wouldn't be some demon from hell, right? Maybe he's revealing his true form and that's why the world is changing!"
All kinds of frightened whispers spread through the crowd.
None of them had ever witnessed a scene like this before.
A candidate flying into the air…
The sky suddenly darkening…
The wind roaring as the temperature dropped to freezing Ranks.
It was terrifying.
The candidates from the three districts had completely stopped advancing. Every single one of them stood frozen in place, staring at Ryan in the sky with expressions full of fear.
In their eyes now, Ryan no longer looked like an ordinary examinee.
He looked more like some terrifying sorcerer.
If not for the fact that more than fifty candidates were gathered here, and if Ma Long had not been present, some of them might have already turned around and fled.
"What the hell is this?"
Ma Long stared at Ryan hovering above them, his brows tightly furrowed.
Even though he was the leader and one of the strongest candidates present, the strange scene unfolding before his eyes filled him with unease.
A bad feeling began creeping into his heart.
For the first time since arriving here, Ma Long seriously considered retreating.
But the moment that thought appeared, he crushed it immediately.
There were dozens of candidates watching him.
If he ran now without even fighting, how would he ever show his face again after the entrance exam?
The humiliation alone would destroy his reputation.
"Ma Long was scared away by a North District candidate."
Just imagining those words spreading among the candidates made his expression darken.
So even though he knew the situation had become dangerous, Ma Long forced himself to stand his ground. He clenched his fists and tried to think of a way to deal with the situation.

Elsewhere inside the Holy Land.
He Anmin, the mysterious Western District candidate who had been secretly slaughtering examinees, had just been chasing a group of more than ten candidates.
But the sudden darkening of the sky made him pause instinctively.
For a brief moment of distraction, the terrified candidates seized their chance. They scattered into the nearby forest and disappeared among the trees.
He Anmin did not chase them.
Instead, he slowly lifted his head and looked toward the sky with a puzzled expression.
At that moment, another figure quietly appeared beside him.
"Leader He, look over there," the newcomer said while pointing toward the horizon.
The person was none other than Xiaofu, the scout responsible for reconnaissance.
Following the direction Xiaofu indicated, He Anmin saw something astonishing.
In the distance, the dark clouds had gathered so densely that they formed a massive swirling vortex in the sky. Lightning flickered inside the vortex, illuminating the clouds with flashes of white light.
The sight was extremely shocking.
"I see it," He Anmin said slowly. "Something strange is happening over there. I've never seen a phenomenon like this before."
"Should we go investigate?" Xiaofu asked hesitantly.
He Anmin thought for a moment.
Then he shook his head.
"No."
"Our mission is more important."
"We must obtain the Blood of the Holy Spirit as soon as possible. Everything else is irrelevant."
"Yes."
Xiaofu nodded and prepared to slip back into hiding.
But just as he turned around, He Anmin called out again.
"Wait."
Xiaofu stopped and looked back. "Leader, is there something else?"
He Anmin thought briefly before giving another order. "Contact two of the nearby teams. Find out if they have any information about what's happening there."
"Report to me immediately if you discover anything."
"We cannot allow any unstable factor to interfere with our mission."
"Yes!"
Xiaofu replied before disappearing swiftly into the forest.

Meanwhile, outside the Holy Land.
Through the massive illusion screen suspended in the air, the spectators could see the situation inside the sacred land.
But suddenly—
The image darkened.
The entire scene inside the illusion screen turned nearly black, making it impossible to see anything clearly.
"What happened?"
"Why did everything suddenly go dark?"
"I can't see anything anymore!"
"Did the Illusion Eye Curtain break?"
On the high platform, the hall masters and elders all looked confused. Many of them turned toward the special envoy Gong Liansheng, hoping he could explain what had happened.
Gong Liansheng glanced briefly at the floating brocade box that controlled the formation before speaking.
"No," he said calmly. "The Illusion Eye Curtain is not damaged."
"You can still see the images inside the Holy Land."
"It's just that the environment there has suddenly become dark, which is why the picture is unclear."
"Dark?"
An elder frowned.
"How could it suddenly become dark? Has night already fallen inside the Holy Land?"
"That shouldn't be possible. If I remember correctly, the time inside the sacred land is synchronized with the outside world."
"It's clearly daytime here. How could it be night there?"
Hearing this, the entire plaza fell into confusion.
Even Gong Liansheng himself seemed uncertain.
Such a phenomenon had never occurred before.
Just then—
An elder suddenly pointed toward the illusion screen with a shocked expression.
"Look!"
"Quick, look at the screen!"
"What… what is that?!"
"That is…"
The moment the elder spoke, everyone present instinctively followed the direction of his pointing finger and looked toward the light curtain suspended in the air.
And then they all froze.
Inside the dim, almost pitch-black image displayed on the curtain, a strange figure could be seen floating in the air.
Above that figure, the sky was filled with dense layers of dark clouds. Those clouds twisted and gathered together into a massive vortex that churned slowly, as if the heavens themselves had been stirred into motion. From time to time, bolts of lightning burst from the vortex like writhing silver snakes, flashing violently through the darkness.
The sight was terrifying.
Under the eerie illumination of those flashes of lightning, the figure hovering in midair appeared almost like a demon descending upon the earth.
Everyone stared intently at the curtain, trying their best to see who exactly that floating person was. However, the sky within the Holy Land had become far too dark. No matter how hard they squinted or leaned forward, the person's appearance remained blurry and indistinct.
Nothing could be seen clearly.
Within the image projected by the curtain, dozens of figures could also be seen gathered below on the ground. These silhouettes seemed to be raising their heads toward the sky, staring up at the person floating above them.
Even though their faces were unclear, their voices could still be heard clearly through the formation that transmitted sound along with the images.
"The situation is getting worse and worse."
"Yes… the temperature keeps dropping. And the pressure coming from above is getting stronger. I can barely breathe."
"He… he must be a demon. Otherwise how could a normal person become so strange? How could he release such a terrifying aura?"
"Maybe we should run. This is too scary. I'm really afraid…"
