Chapter 591: The Pill That Freed the Cicada
After equipping the Knight’s Frost Ring, Marcus received the final item, the incredibly powerful Mythic Artifact wings dropped by Elder Eagle Morta: the Black Eagle Great Wings.
—
Black Eagle Great Wings: Black-tier Mythic Artifact. Requirement: Agility 500, Level 50.
A thousand years ago, Elder Eagle Morta discovered a mysterious cultivation technique and these wings inside an ancient cave. It was believed that the wings had been forged from the wings of the Mythic Beast Black-Winged Iron Wind Eagle, an ancient Primal Behemoth. They granted their wearer the ability to fly and possessed formidable offensive capabilities.
Effect: Increases Agility by 50 and Constitution by 30. Increases Health regeneration by 50% and Mana regeneration by 50%. Bonus: Dodge increased by 10%. Increases physical attack immunity and magical attack immunity by 5%.
Black Eagle Soaring (Passive): With a single thought, the wings gently flap, allowing the wearer to fly and fight freely in the air. Flight speed increased by 15%.
Black Eagle’s Fury (Active): Rapidly flaps the wings, generating a powerful tornado that attacks enemies. The damage is continuous, and the spinning vortex has a 20% chance of causing Confusion.
Black Eagle Dive (Active): From high altitude, the wearer dives like an eagle striking a rabbit, crashing down upon an opponent with tremendous force. Increases the attack effect of the original skill by 50% and Critical Hit chance by 20%. Cooldown: 2 minutes.
—
’Amazing!’ Wings were extremely rare drops, and most of the ones players managed to obtain offered little more than the ability to fly and a few mediocre stat bonuses. These Black Eagle Great Wings were completely different. Not only were their attributes excellent, but they also came with multiple offensive skills.
They were a truly exceptional pair of wings, the kind of equipment that was almost impossible not to show off.
The requirements were Level 50 and 500 Agility, which meant that under normal circumstances, only full-Agility classes such as Assassins and Archers would have any hope of equipping them. Marcus, however, was anything but a normal knight. His Agility had long since surpassed 500, so he equipped the wings without hesitation under Alana’s watchful gaze.
At that moment, the wings were only about the size of a house cat. Whoosh! A flash of black light swept across his back. The tiny wings suddenly expanded, growing to more than six feet in length and nearly three feet across, unfolding behind him before beginning to flap slowly and gracefully.
With every movement, the elegant black wings released faint waves of dark radiance. Their dense feathers seemed to contain tremendous power, and the sheer presence they gave Marcus was enough to make him look like an entirely different person.
Alana looked at him with undisguised pride and nodded happily. "Master, excellent!"
"Is that so?" Marcus grinned, glancing around the appraisal office at the other players. He suddenly felt a strong urge to disable the office’s privacy protection and let everyone see exactly what true style looked like. He had the equipment, the strength, and now even a pair of magnificent wings. He really wanted to show off, but after thinking about it for a moment, Marcus decided against it.
"Stay low-key. I treat fame like floating clouds."
With that, he calmly retracted the wings into his body with a thought. They could be summoned whenever he needed them, so there was no reason to attract unnecessary attention.
"Grandpa Appraiser, I’m going to find that Dark Relic for you now..." Marcus casually lied to the "lovable" old appraiser yet again before leaving with Alana.
Behind them, the old man could only shout helplessly, "Stonehaven, hurry up! And it’s not just for me, you know..."
Once they left the appraisal office, Marcus checked through his inventory. There was still some time before his meeting with Princess Phoenix, and he was about to head over to Boss Blaze’s shop when Alana suddenly tugged gently at his arm.
"Master, let’s go back to the mansion first."
"Back to the mansion?" Marcus turned to look at his graceful companion. Even through the ordinary mask covering her face, he could see the faint glimmer of happiness and anticipation in her eyes.
His gaze traveled over her slender figure and graceful waist, and the familiar floral fragrance drifting from her made his thoughts wander in a completely different direction. Judging from the way she was looking at him, Marcus couldn’t help wondering whether she intended to continue what they’d started earlier. His heart immediately began beating faster.
"Sure!"
He took Alana’s hand with a smile and followed her toward the mansion.
Of course, he knew his thoughts probably had little to do with whatever Alana actually wanted. She had most likely brought him back because there was something important she wanted to show him. Still, a man could dream.
The moment they returned to the mansion, Marcus removed Alana’s mask and looked at her beautiful face. Her delicate lips were right in front of him, and before she could say anything, he leaned forward and gave her a gentle kiss.
"Master..." Alana’s protest was soft and lacked any real force. She knew him too well to be surprised, and after a moment, her resistance faded completely. Her eyes became slightly dazed as she relaxed in his embrace and allowed him to kiss her to his heart’s content.
Only after a while did she finally manage to speak. "Master, I have something to give you..."
"Something to give me?" Marcus finally understood that Alana really had brought him back for a reason.
"Master..." Alana gave him one last quick peck before reluctantly slipping out of his arms. She took his hand and led him toward the courtyard where she usually practiced her alchemy.
"Master, I refined this divine-grade pill three days ago. I was waiting for you to return." She allowed him one more kiss before stepping away, then turned toward a nearby cauldron. From inside, she carefully retrieved a blood-red pill radiating a faint crimson glow and placed it in Marcus’s hand with a look of unmistakable pride.
’A divine-grade pill...’ Marcus stared at it in disbelief. Divine-grade consumables were the highest tier of items in existence. Even with everything he’d obtained recently, a pill of this level was still something Marcus couldn’t help but take seriously.
He carefully examined it.
—
Millennium Blood Spirit Pill: Divine-grade consumable. Refined by Grandmaster Alchemist Alana using the rare Mythic-grade material Millennium Blood Spirit Cicada, combined with Heavenly Nectar, Hundred-Day Essence Fruit, and Three-Immortal Grass Seeds. This pill fully unlocks the cicada’s blood-activating and physique-enhancing properties while maximizing all of its other effects.
Effect: Permanently increases Health by 1,000. Permanently increases Health regeneration by 100. Additionally, there is an 80% chance of learning the Millennium Blood Spirit Cicada’s unique skill, Cicada Sheds Its Shell.
—
’Damn!’ Marcus’s eyes widened. The permanent stat increases alone were excellent, but the real prize was the second effect.
’An eighty percent chance to learn Cicada Sheds Its Shell?’ This truly was a divine-grade pill. And with Marcus’s absurdly high Luck, that eighty percent chance was practically equivalent to one hundred percent.
He knew exactly how powerful Cicada Sheds Its Shell was. If the Millennium Blood Spirit Cicada hadn’t been immobilized by its own protective barrier when he’d captured it, there was no way Marcus would have been able to catch that creature in the first place.
He’d never imagined that the Millennium Blood Spirit Cicada he’d casually handed over to Alana back then would eventually be refined into a divine-grade pill.
"Master, the Heavenly Nectar, Hundred-Day Essence Fruit, and Three-Immortal Grass Seeds were all extremely rare herbs. I practically had to beg Dr. Harrison for them. I honestly didn’t expect that I would succeed in refining the Millennium Blood Spirit Cicada into a divine-grade pill."
Alana’s face was filled with excitement as she urged him, "Master, take it now! If you learn Cicada Sheds Its Shell, you won’t need the Fluffy Rabbit’s Mask anymore."
Marcus immediately understood. So that was why Alana had favored the Face of Nameless Fear back at the appraisal office. She’d already known that once he obtained this skill, there would be no reason for him to cling to the Fluffy Rabbit’s Mask.
’Cicada Sheds Its Shell...’ Marcus’s anticipation surged. Under Alana’s hopeful, watchful gaze, he swallowed the blood-red divine-grade pill.
A thick medicinal flavor spread through his mouth as powerful energy began circulating through his body. The sensation lasted only a moment before the familiar system notification rang out.
Ding!
[Congratulations, player Stonehaven. You have consumed the Millennium Blood Spirit Pill. Health permanently increased by 1,000. Health regeneration permanently increased by 100. You have been fortunate enough to learn the unique skill of the Millennium Blood Spirit Cicada, ’Cicada Sheds Its Shell.’]
A 100% learning rate, just as he’d expected.
Marcus immediately checked his newly acquired skill.
—
Cicada Sheds Its Shell (Max Level, Special Skill): Unique skill of the Millennium Blood Spirit Cicada. Upon activation, the user immediately enters a non-combat state and becomes enveloped in a crimson aura for three seconds. During these three seconds, the user cannot attack. Any attack will immediately cancel the non-combat state. Cooldown: 1 minute.
—
’Incredible!’ Marcus stared at the skill for several seconds before a single thought emerged in his mind. The Fluffy Rabbit’s Mask was officially retired. Without the slightest hesitation, he equipped the Artifact Face of Nameless Fear.
The transformation was immediate.
The ghostly fangs of the mask, its terrifying appearance, the pitch-black Corpse Demon set, the Wraith Cloak, and the enormous Black Eagle Great Wings combined into a single overwhelming presence. Dark energy seemed to billow around Marcus, giving him the appearance of some terrifying figure who had crawled straight out of the depths of the underworld.
’This is incredible!’ Marcus looked himself over and couldn’t help sighing in satisfaction. ’This is absolutely badass.’ From now on, the Face of Nameless Fear would be his primary mask.
He glanced at the Fluffy Rabbit’s Mask sitting quietly in his inventory. He’d briefly considered giving it to his sister Amber or Jade, but the mask was simply too recognizable. If either of them started wearing it, someone might eventually connect the dots.
Keeping it for himself was safer. Besides, he could always switch between the two masks when necessary, which would make it even harder for other players to determine his true identity. ’Perfect.’
While he was still at the mansion, Marcus opened his vault and retrieved his Dreamland Gems and Blessing Gems. One after another, the familiar system notifications rang out.
Ding! Ding!
Using the gems, he upgraded his Divine Artifact Blackflame Ice Flower Sword, his Artifact Face of Nameless Fear, and his Mythic Artifact Black Eagle Great Wings to +7.
With his equipment both upgraded and properly equipped, his already frightening attributes climbed even higher.
Marcus glanced toward Alana, his eyes filled with affection. "My precious Alana, your master needs to reward you..."
After checking the time, he gave his beautiful companion a warm kiss as thanks before finally leaving the mansion and heading toward Boss Blaze’s shop.
Soon, he would be setting out on an adventure with two legendary princesses. Hopefully, this journey would be a pleasant one.
