Reborn as the Psycho Villainess Who Ate Her Slave Beasts' Contracts

Chapter 460 --460

Chapter 460: Chapter-460

The heavy, suffocating scent of musk and sweat hung thickly in the air of the private office, a stark contrast to the usual sterile odor of parchment and sealing wax.

Elara stood a few feet away from the grand oak desk, her breathing already perfectly regulated. With calm, measured movements, she smoothed the heavy crimson velvet of her gown, adjusted the silver combs in her dark hair, and straightened her collar. Within forty-five seconds, she had entirely reconstructed the impenetrable armor of the Empress Regent.

She did not look flushed. She did not look disheveled. She looked as though she had just finished a mildly productive meeting regarding agricultural tariffs.

On the desk, Mahir was a vastly different picture.

The massive beast-kin commander was sprawled across the polished wood, his broad chest rising and falling in deep, ragged heaves. His dark skin was slick with sweat, his golden eyes half-closed and clouded with a heavy, intoxicating post-coital haze. His furred ears twitched lazily, completely relaxed, and a low, rumbling purr of absolute satisfaction vibrated in the back of his throat. He looked thoroughly wrecked, entirely drained, and fiercely content.

Elara ran a quick internal diagnostic.

’Muscle tension: negligible. Cognitive fog: cleared. Heart rate: resting at a stable sixty beats per minute. Guilt matrix: zero percent.’

The physical maintenance had been highly successful.

"Commander," Elara stated, her voice slicing through the heavy silence with its usual chilling cadence.

Mahir’s eyes snapped open. The primal, submissive haze instantly cleared, replaced by the razor-sharp reflexes of a trained apex predator. He slid off the desk, landing silently on his bare feet, and immediately began pulling on his trousers and dark linen shirt.

"Yes, Regent," Mahir replied, his voice still thick and raspy. He did not attempt to mask the deep, possessive reverence in his tone, but he knew better than to cross the boundary back into familiarity without her explicit command.

Elara paused, forcing her mind to translate her clinical assessment into the simple, ’normal’ human words she had recently been practicing. Her throat felt unusually tight with the effort, her brow furrowing slightly as she pushed the sentence out.

"That was... very good," Elara said, the imprecise words feeling heavy, awkward, and distinctly uncomfortable on her tongue. "I feel... much better now." She walked back toward her desk, stopping to look down at the carpet. She clenched her jaw, resisting her usual vocabulary. "But... you made a big mess. The tax papers are everywhere. And the ink spilled on the rug."

Mahir paused halfway through buttoning his shirt. He looked down at the mess he had made in his desperate rush to obey her earlier. For a brief second, the terrifying commander of the imperial vanguard looked genuinely sheepish.

"Apologies, Master," Mahir murmured, quickly dropping to one knee to gather the scattered parchments. "My pack instincts overrode my spatial awareness. It will not happen again."

"Just... make sure it doesn’t," Elara said, her fingers twitching slightly at how entirely inefficient the phrasing felt to her brain. "It is going to take me extra time to put these back in order."

She stepped past him, taking her seat in the grand oak chair. She felt perfectly fine. Better than fine. She watched Mahir neatly stack the papers and place them back on the corner of her desk. As he stood up, he lingered for a fraction of a second, his glowing golden eyes sweeping over her perfectly composed face, silently asking if she required anything more from him.

"You can go now," Elara said, picking up her quill. Her grip was slightly too rigid as she forced out the last simple command. "Go back to watching the door. You still have three hours left."
