Reborn as the Psycho Villainess Who Ate Her Slave Beasts' Contracts

Chapter 431 --430

Chapter 431: Chapter-430

Suddenly, a high-ranking northern ambassador stepped forward, raising his golden goblet toward the high table. "A toast!" the man boomed, his face flushed from drink. "To the upcoming mid-winter union! May the marriage of the Prince of the North and the Empress Regent bring a century of shared blood, shared strength, and absolute peace to both our lands!"

The entire hall erupted into a roaring cheer, hundreds of voices shouting their agreement, goblets clashing together in a deafening wave of sound.

’Shared blood. Shared strength.’

Julian felt a bitter, suffocating knot tighten in his throat. He forced his lips into a flawless, polite smile, lifting his glass to mirror the ambassador’s gesture. But as he swallowed the wine, it tasted like pure ash. There was no shared strength here. There was no mutual union. There was only a cold, unbreakable legal contract—and a woman who would return to the arms of her loyal commanders the moment the palace doors closed for the night.

As the crowd’s shouting began to die down, Elara turned her head toward him. Her vacant, glass-bead eyes locked onto his face, scanning his features with terrifying precision.

"Your heart rate has increased by approximately fourteen percent, Prince Julian," Elara stated flatly, her voice cutting through the ambient noise of the ballroom like a razor. "And the micro-expressions around your jaw indicate a sudden spike in physical discomfort. Is the northern wine variant causing an adverse chemical reaction in your system?"

Julian froze, his wine glass hovering an inch above the table. He turned his head slowly to look at her, staring into that beautiful, utterly blank face. She was asking out of pure, calculated data collection. She wasn’t worried about him. She didn’t care that his heart was breaking right next to her. She just noticed the glitch in his performance.

A short, breathless laugh escaped his lips—a sound completely hidden by the loud music playing below the dais. He set his glass down, leaning in slightly so only she could hear his smooth, hollow baritone.

"No, Your Highness," Julian murmured, his ice-blue eyes fixing onto hers with a quiet, tragic intensity that she completely failed to register. "The wine is perfectly fine. I am just... marveling at how beautifully efficient everything is tonight."

Elara evaluated his words for a millisecond, found no logical errors in his statement, and simply nodded once. "The organization metrics were strict. Your cooperation contributed to the outcome. It is acceptable."

She turned her gaze back to the front of the room, completely satisfied, leaving Julian to drown in his own silent misery.

Down at the base of the steps, Ken casually shifted his weight, his dark eyes catching the interaction. A knowing, cruel smirk played on his lips as he watched the prince’s subtle despair. Mahir stood right beside him, his massive frame unmoving, but his beast-kin ears twitched slightly in Julian’s direction, his tail giving a slow, territorial sway against the marble. They knew they had already won. Julian was just the public face of her empire; they were the masters of her private world.

Julian pulled his gaze away, staring down at his hands. He could control his mask, he could control his words, but as the music swelled around him, he realized he would never be able to cure the ache in his heart.
