Chapter 418 --418
Chapter 418: Chapter-418
Julian’s face flushed a deep, angry crimson, his silver hair catching the light as his jaw clenched. "A training yard? You think you can treat a royal consort like a horse to be exercised?! I am telling you that I will act like your husband, Elara. I will walk these halls, I will sit at your table, and I will find my way into your space whether your guards like it or not.""If you attempt to violate the physical boundaries of this palace," Elara replied, her vacant eyes reflecting his furious expression without a single hint of warmth, "the security detail will execute the containment protocol. Your status as a husband is a legal fiction designed for public consumption. Do not confuse the performance with the reality."
She turned on her heel, her boots clicking sharply against the marble as she walked past him, entirely unbothered by his lingering rage. Ken and Mahir fell into step instantly, their massive frames creating an impenetrable wall of muscle that forced Julian to step back, his ice-blue eyes burning with a mixture of helplessness and deep, simmering resentment as the doors closed behind them.
By the following week, the public announcement of the alliance had been processed through the ministry of information, and Prince Julian began his campaign to test the limits of his cage. He had no intention of staying hidden in the eastern wing. He began to act like her husband, utilizing the vague, public loopholes of his title to force his way into her daily routine.
It began during the midday meal in the small dining pavilion overlooking the palace gardens. Elara sat alone at the stone table, a simple plate of roasted vegetables and grains before her, her eyes scanning a report on the northern border garrisons.
The heavy rustle of silk and velvet signaled an intrusion.
Julian stepped into the pavilion, completely uninvited. Today, he wore a casual but meticulously tailored tunic of silver-grey, his cloak omitted, his spun-silver hair falling perfectly across his brow. He carried himself with an easy, domestic familiarity, as if he had every right to occupy the space. Without asking, he pulled out the stone chair directly opposite her and sat down.
"A beautiful afternoon for a shared meal, Master," Julian said, his baritone voice smooth, carrying a deliberate, mock-affectionate tone designed to provoke a reaction. He reached out, his long, pale fingers deliberately moving her administrative report a few inches to the side to force her to look at him. "A husband shouldn’t let his wife dine alone while the sun is out. It looks poorly upon our household."
From the shadows of the pavilion pillars, Ken stepped into the light. His arms were crossed over his chest, his leather training vest showing the heavy cords of muscle in his shoulders. His dark eyes were fixed on Julian’s hand with a cold, mocking stillness. A few paces away, Mahir stood near the garden path, his beast-kin ears twitching toward the pavilion, his tail lashing slowly through the rosebushes, crushing a few petals under the weight of his irritation.
Elara didn’t look up immediately. She finished the sentence she was reading, picked up her linen cloth to wipe her fingers, and then directed her empty, glass-bead gaze at his face.
"Your presence in this pavilion reduces the efficiency of my break cycle by four percent," Elara stated flatly. "The report you just moved concerns the supply lines for the very grain your father’s kingdom is currently consuming. Your interference is counter-productive."
"I am not interfering, Elara; I am participating," Julian countered, leaning forward, a sharp, challenging smirk touching his lips as he tried to bridge the emotional void between them. "If I am to be a legal fiction, then I intend to make the performance as realistic as possible. A husband sits with his wife. He converses with her. He shows the court that they are a unit."
