Chapter 475 7: Dragon God Illusion
When he learned that both the Dragon Group and the forces of Chaos had come to join the festivities, Westheid had already considered pitting them against each other.
The three factions were, after all, hostile to one another. An alliance was out of the question. They would fight on sight—what more was there to say?
Originally, Westheid's plan was to deliberately provoke the Dragon Race's legion, drag them into the Chaos Domain, and then happily slip away. But it seemed that was no longer necessary. The two sides were already going at it hot and heavy.
"Should we wait for the war between the Dragon Race and Chaos to end before we set out, or should we join the battlefield now?"
When this question was raised, there was only one possible answer.
"Are you kidding? Are we supposed to just cower on the sidelines and wait? Such an act of cowardice... Screw it, let's just fuck them both up at the same time!"
Westheid never made decisions based on pure self-interest. He cared far more for honor and reputation. In the Mortal World, honor was no mere relic of a bygone era; it was something everyone had to uphold and revere from the bottom of their hearts. It was useful—truly useful. One could not climb the path of a Powerhouse without honor and conviction.
It wasn't just Duke Qinghui who advocated for this. The Celestial Vault People had their own pride as well. After thousands, nearly ten thousand years of integrity and perseverance, a mere thing like Temporal Chaos wasn't enough to break their spirits. The Celestial Vault People were not so pathetic as to stand by and watch their enemies battle in their own airspace, swallowing the humiliation.
And so, the assembled fleet quickly set sail for the front lines. Floating Battleships, Floating Platforms, and Azure Sky Mechas all departed at once, advancing majestically toward the Crimson Throne's location.
Soon, the allied forces arrived just outside the temporal turbulence. As their reconnaissance had indicated, the area had devolved into a brutal battlefield. It was hard to miss—the battlefield was simply... immense. Even from hundreds of miles away, one could see the silhouettes of countless megastructures and a sky stained by interwoven Magic and artillery fire.
"So that... is the battlefield of the Dragons and Chaos."
From the deck of the Celestial Vault Flagship, Westheid gazed into the distance. The Dragon Race's forces, relying on a Sky Fortress and a dark cloud of Dragon Beast cannon fodder, occupied one section of the sky. The Chaos Demon Army, meanwhile, revealed their savage, colossal forms within a distorted celestial canopy, spewing forth shadows even thicker than those of the Dragon Beast Legion.
As Duke Qinghui, he was quite familiar with the forces of Chaos. Chaos Demons of this scale and appearance... were nothing like the ones on the ground. Westheid had already witnessed them countless times through Wan Qi's memories.
Clearly, this was the work of Temporal Chaos. It had dragged an older generation of Chaos People from ten thousand years ago into the present, and they had ended up clashing with the marauding Dragon Race legion. He didn't know how the conflict had started, but it didn't matter anymore.
Westheid couldn't help but sigh.
"Quite the lively gathering we have here."
A battle of this scale, once started, wouldn't be over in a matter of days. This was especially true for the Chaos Demon Army; as long as their Domain remained, they could generate an endless stream of Chaos Demons. If they weren't crushed with overwhelming force, a high-intensity war of attrition lasting six months to a year would be the norm.
For the Dragon Race, this wasn't a problem; they were all Durability Kings.
But the Celestial Vault Kingdom couldn't afford to wait that long, which was why they had to set out immediately.
"Destroy the enemy forces! Whether it's the Dragons or Chaos, they are all targets! Annihilate them all without distinction!"
With a single command, the Azure Sky Mechas were the first to charge from the fleet. These Warriors, exclusive to the Celestial Vault Kingdom, revealed their true power. Though undoubtedly minuscule compared to the massive battleships, the Mechas burst forward at an incredible speed, leaving long contrails as they shot straight toward the Chaos Demon Army.
RUMBLE—
The heavens then echoed with continuous explosions. Vast swaths of the sky were shrouded in blindingly brilliant light, and tens of thousands of Chaos Demons were obliterated. The fleet, advancing slowly in their wake, moved with unhurried composure. A wide-scale Ascension Ceremony gradually compressed the Chaos Domain; purifying this dense filth was the only way to solve the problem at its root.
The Celestial Vault Legion's main thrust was directed at the Chaos Demon Army. As the oldest kingdom in the Mortal World, the Celestial Vault Kingdom had almost exclusively waged all-out war against Chaos. They knew exactly how to fight them. The Imperial Expeditionary Army, meanwhile, was deployed to the other side of the battlefield to assault the Dragon Race's position.
"For the Empire!"
"For the Divine Ancestor! Slay the Demon Dragons!"
"Leave no Demon Dragon alive! Drive them all out!"
"Long live the Holy Tree! Long live the Empire!"
The Imperial Legion, having long awaited this moment, charged forward with a roar. After their Floating Cities were fitted with new equipment, the Imperial Citizens felt they had reached a new level of power. And in the Empire, the act of slaying a dragon... was without a doubt the highest honor.
Even if the Radiant Holy Tree could no longer cast its favored gaze upon them, slaying a dragon was still the ultimate pursuit in life!
"We should go, too. This battle won't end so easily. It would be good to speed things up a bit."
Seeing the Imperial Citizens' enthusiasm, Westheid couldn't help but be swept up in it. He spoke to his companions around him.
And so, the group centered around Duke Qinghui also joined the battlefield.
With the exception of Ailorus, whose combat experience and skill were insufficient for such a high-intensity battle, all combatants at the Legend-rank and above joined the fray. Ailorus would remain on the bridge to maintain the Barrier.
As for Westheid, Reiya, and Mivana, little needed to be said. They had coordinated with each other countless times. With practiced ease, they leaped from the flagship and charged into the Dragon Race's Sky Fortress, wreaking havoc in all directions.
