Chapter 470 4: Eight-Wind Torrential Rain

The Wings of Death fled until it vanished from sight. Frustrated at being denied his prey, Westheid could only turn his blade on weaker foes. The Wings of Death had left behind an astonishing number of Dragon legions to cover its retreat.

The fearless Dragon Beasts paid no mind as their comrades were incinerated by flames, completely ignoring those reduced to cinders. Beating their wings, they relentlessly pursued the battleships sailing through the sky. However, the Expeditionary Army's warships were no mere sandcastles to be washed away by the tide.

The masses of Dragon Beasts swarming the Floating Battleships were repelled by layers of hexagonal Magic Energy Shields. Their incredibly sturdy adamantium hulls could withstand even the breath of a True Dragon, let alone mere physical attacks.

At the same time, the Rune Cannons on the flanks of the Floating Battleships fired ceaselessly, creating a tight web of firepower that shot down any Flying Dragon that drew too near. Charged Magic-guided Cannons could even tear a bloody path through the hordes of Dragon Beasts.

But all this achieved was a stalemate. There were simply too many Dragon Beasts pouring out of the Sky Fortress. These mongrel Flying Dragons, with their diluted Dragon Blood, were the Dragon Realm's cheapest cannon fodder. Who knew how many the Legendary True Dragons had churned out from the breeding pools of the Sky Fortress.

The Legendary Powerhouses within the fleet also joined the fray. Yet, faced with a Dragon Group as vast as a dark cloud, completely wiping them out seemed like it would take an eternity. Worse still, the Dragon Group appeared to be endless, with more constantly pouring in from the horizon.

Just as Westheid turned back, wondering how long this skirmish would last and how many casualties the Expeditionary Fleet would sustain, a strange and immense surge of Magic Power emanated from the distance.

"Duke Qinghui!!"

Jing Mu, clad in his Azure Sky Mecha, sped over to Westheid.

"I've made contact with the elders! They've opened a path to our location and are warping over now!"

As if to confirm Jing Mu's good news, the surge of Magic Power Westheid had sensed tore a rift in the fabric of space in the distance.

The rift rapidly expanded, becoming a Teleportation Gate roiling with Magic Power, through which the fleets of the Celestial Vault Kingdom began to emerge.

More magnificent and exquisite than even Elven creations, every inch of these warships was a work of art, covered in sacred carvings and patterns. Their Magic Sails unfurled gracefully, bathing the gloomy heavens in radiance and chanting timeless hymns.

Warship after warship emerged, escorted by fighters and Azure Sky Mechas. All manner of palace-like floating platforms advanced alongside the colossal vessels.

But most eye-catching of all were the incredibly massive Giant Divine Soldiers.

These giants stood hundreds of meters tall. A chaotic curtain of seemingly tangible Light Wings formed at their backs, enveloping thousands of smaller fighter craft within.

The Armor of the Giant Divine Soldiers gleamed with holy silver-white and radiant golden light, appearing as if constructed from layers of steel feathers. They were majestic and imposing. The Giant Swords or Long Spears they wielded were an absurd hundred-plus meters in length. Disregarding the energy and power contained within their Runes, the sheer mass of their precious alloy construction was enough to shatter cities and sunder mountains.

'I'm not one to knock something just to praise something else,' Westheid thought, 'but compared to this, the Country of Yonglan's [Riding God Giant Statues] aren't even worthy of carrying their shoes.'

Upon their arrival, the reinforcements from the Celestial Vault Kingdom did not immediately join the battle. Instead, they observed the battlefield and began preparing for something.

"That's [Eight-Wind Torrential Rain]!"

Seeing this, Jing Mu immediately shouted, "Have the fleet pull back from the battlefield!"

'Eight-Wind Torrential Rain...' Westheid was startled for a moment, then immediately ordered his fleet to fall back. To clear a path for their retreat, he personally intervened, slaughtering the rest of the Dragon Group that clung to the Expeditionary Fleet.

He knew of this Technique. It was a wide-area Legendary Magic from the Celestial Vault Kingdom. To put it simply, a specialized anti-air attack.

A long, drawn-out chant rang out like the tolling of a great bell, echoing in waves.

[Call forth the storm of thunder, skyfire, and Radiant Light.]

[Ye who command the skies shall be as dust. By what right do you presume to be so high?]

[Let it be called! This is the punishment for those above the heavens.]

Immediately, the clouds overhead began to gather at a speed visible to the naked eye. In that instant, the very elements between heaven and earth seemed to freeze.

Scorching heat and frigid currents swirled as Chaos Magic Power ran rampant, heralding the coming storm.

"RUMBLE—"

The gathering storm clouds concentrated and warped the rampaging Chaos Magic Power. Accompanied by rumbling thunder, it began to rain.

Then, countless bolts of lightning as thick as barrels raged like writhing serpents, followed by an onslaught of unstoppable wind blades.

Under the [Eight-Wind Torrential Rain], this was only the beginning. The sky-blotting horde of Dragon Beasts erupted in blossoms of blood as they plummeted from the heavens, but this was far from over.

After the raging thunder and storm came an even more devastating assault.

As the stagnant air began to ripple, the gloomy clouds revealed a blazing scarlet glow.

A moment later, surging flames crashed against the sky like a tidal wave, lunging toward the cluster of Dragon Beasts. Before the might of this cataclysm, these powerful and deadly weapons of war were no different from mortals. The instant they were swallowed by the fiery waves, their steel-like hides melted into slag.

The heavenly fire spiraled and surged through the air, relentlessly sweeping up the scattering Dragon Beasts. The entire firmament was engulfed in roiling waves of fire, brilliantly illuminating the world below.

Even Legendary True Dragons were battered into a sorry state by the [Eight-Wind Torrential Rain], tossed about within the storm and torn to shreds. In short, nothing within the Technique's area of effect could escape unscathed. If you survived, you'd still be peeled raw.

After the storm of thunder and skyfire had crushed, minced, and felled tens of thousands of Flying Dragons, its aftershocks continued to radiate toward the distant horizon. Fragments of heavenly fire rained down across the entire sky, painting an apocalyptic scene.

"Badass..."

Westheid couldn't help but exclaim in admiration at the sight. 'Although with my current peerless strength, it wouldn't be hard to annihilate these enemies, for a slaughter this fast and efficient... you really need a professional killing machine.'

After the [Eight-Wind Torrential Rain] subsided, the Celestial Vault Fleet and the Expeditionary Army moved out in tacit unison to clean up the surviving remnants of the Dragon Group. The Legendary Giant Dragons, embodiments of invincibility and despair on the ground, were now being kicked to death in the sky like common strays.

Many of the Imperial Citizens in the fleet were shocked. So this was a celestial battlefield—the intensity was on another level.

"Tally the casualties and handle the post-battle cleanup. But I shouldn't have to tell you that."

Westheid gave the order to the fleet dispassionately, his main focus fixed on the reinforcements from the Celestial Vault Kingdom.

A moment later, several Azure Sky Mechas sped over. The pilot in the lead removed their adaptive helmet, revealing a delicate and beautiful face that bore a striking resemblance to Jing Mu.

"Jing Xiao!"

Jing Mu recognized his younger sister. She gave Westheid a slight nod.

"Duke Qinghui, please come with me. The elder is waiting for you."

Westheid raised an eyebrow and said to those with him:

"Then let's go take a look."

And so, guided by the Azure Sky Mechas, the group arrived on the deck of the Celestial Vault Fleet's flagship. On the immeasurably vast warship, the Celestial Vault People were lined up in formation to greet them.

"Elder!"

Jing Mu hurried forward, crossed his hands over his chest, and bowed to the figure at the very front.

But the leader of the Celestial Vault People, the one Jing Mu called "Elder," was far less radiant and glamorous than his compatriots. Westheid took one look and couldn't help but ridicule him in his head.

'Seriously, why is this guy in a can?'

This "Elder" of the Celestial Vault People was decrepit... no, his human form was barely even recognizable. His body was a murky blur inside a crimson, translucent pod that swirled with a misty liquid. Only a pale mask attached to a respirator was clearly visible.

'It wouldn't be surprising if he dropped dead the very next second.'

The elder's voice, produced by a machine, was unnatural and completely monotonic. Nevertheless, Westheid could sense hope and urgency within it.

"Jing Mu, is this... the Venerable Lord's Divine Chosen?"

"I am!"

Before Jing Mu could even speak, Westheid stepped forward to claim the title himself.

'Since I've decided to impersonate this Divine Chosen, being timid about it isn't my style.'

'Besides, as long as I think of the [Master of Extinction] as the [Venerable Master of the Azure Heaven], it's not really impersonation. The two are one and the same; a mere Demon or Celestial God alone is just an incomplete version of Wan Qi. My conscience is clear!'
