Chapter 224 - 34: Celestial God, Demon (III)

A Chaos Source God is the strongest physical creation the Chaos Will can manifest. Even in the golden age to come, a single Chaos Source God would require a Celestial God to personally intervene and suppress it.

And in the ancient era before the Celestial Gods were born, the Chaos Source God was the ultimate embodiment of malice. Its mere existence was terror; its arrival, a cataclysm.

Mortals could not, and would not, even muster the will to resist it.

But Wan Qi felt no fear toward the terrifying Demon God.

She plunged headfirst onto the surface of the unspeakable beast, her crimson blade spewing forth a torrent of embers.

The flames burned away the hazy black mist, and the Chaos Source God could no longer maintain its inscrutable form, revealing its tangible shape.

The colossal creature stood as tall as the heavens, like a mountain in the sky. Its upper body was upright and imposing, while its ethereal lower half revealed the form of a ferocious beast through the thin mist.

The beast extended eight arms. The end of each was a dark purple blade of gnarled flesh, as if forged from a Dark Star, and it gleamed with a sinister, cruel light.

The Chaos Source God displayed a speed completely belying its massive size. The Dark Star blades shimmered with deep Illusions as they furiously slashed and smashed down upon Wan Qi.

And Wan Qi’s response was to raise her Long Saber.

"CLANG—"

Parry!

"CLANG! CLANG-CLANG-CLANG-CLANG—SHING-SHING-SHING-SHING—"

Parry! Parry! Keep parrying! A frenzy of parries!

Her swings were so fast they warped the very space before her, leaving only a blur of afterimages. Amidst the dizzying storm of counterattacks, the sheer force of her parries forged a solid halo of light in front of her.

The beast’s blows were world-shattering, their aftershocks capable of cracking the earth and stirring up hurricanes, yet they couldn’t touch the tiny human below.

It was like a Giant Dragon wrestling with an ant—an utterly absurd scene.

Compared to a contest of Energy Level and brute force, fighting a Chaos Source God was more a battle of wills.

Immersed in that intensely concentrated corruption, there was no room for the slightest hesitation. Only absolute resolve could resist the bone-deep decay.

In other words, one could not harbor fear or doubt.

’I know no fear, no doubt. I have absolute faith in my destiny. For the tomorrow I long for, I will cut down any Monster that stands in my way.’

After a continuous series of parries and blocks, Wan Qi slowly raised her head, her long lashes fluttering once.

"O, you who are the calamity that tramples nations, the bane that destroys the mortal world, Demon God..."

"Do... you bleed?"

Not expecting an answer from the beast, the gray-haired Swordsman answered her own question with action. She took a deep breath and raised her saber to strike upward.

"BOOM—"

Crimson lightning, pure and clear, instantly filled the sky.

A roar resounded as a profound crimson halo enveloped everything around them. It even completely suppressed the Chaos Source God’s Domain, the dim, somber, dark-purple mist obliterated by the lightning.

There were no billowing waves of flame, no arcs of lightning. Extending from the blade was only a brilliance so pristine it could be called serene in its Aesthetics.

The blade struck the beast’s body. The Chaos Source God’s seemingly invincible form was immediately seared with a burn mark, starkly visible on its dim, deep-purple flesh.

No need to defend, no need to parry. All she had to do was swing her sword with all her might. Wan Qi had lost all sense of time, only vaguely aware that her battle with the Chaos Source God had likely lasted for days and nights.

But what did that matter?

Even as her Soul Forged shell was battered beyond recognition, her skin, muscles, and bones were being ravaged by the violent Chaos Energy. A CRACKLING sound filled the air, as if the gray-haired Swordsman’s flesh and blood were being roasted.

Even through the heart-wrenching pain, Wan Qi swung her saber again and again. Her crimson eyes showed not a moment of doubt, only the grim determination to bring the Chaos Source God to its end.

Pierce! Cut! Tear! Slash!

As she continuously drove her blade in, crimson flames spread across the Chaos Source God’s body until the entire sky began to be veiled by embers.

After who knows how many slashes, when the final blow pierced the Chaos Source God’s head, the terrifying, ferocious creation finally collapsed under the strain.

"AWOOO—"

With a muffled, mournful howl, the unspeakable thing shrouded in black mist began to fall.

There, in the strange, hazy, and lightless sky, a point of crimson light forced the Chaos Source God’s immense, mist-wreathed body down from the heavens!

The thick, gloomy dark clouds were instantly torn asunder by the point of crimson light, as if ripped apart by an ancient giant who controlled lightning and storms. The rift continued to widen as the Chaos Source God, pinned by the great crimson star, plummeted rapidly toward a point far from the Floating Fortress.

And then...

"RUMBLE—"

With an earth-shaking tremor, the mountains submerged in the Chaos Domain were shattered. The eight-armed beast was embedded into the mountainside, its shell beginning to disintegrate like ash scattered on the wind.

"Hah... hah... hah..."

The one who had done all this, Wan Qi, gasped for breath on the verge of death. Only after a long rest did she drag her saber by the hilt and begin to climb upward through the void, back to the Floating Fortress.

The demise of the Chaos Source God freed the mortals from their panic. Amidst the wreckage, everyone stared at the colossal remains of the Chaos Source God—a "god fall"—in utter disbelief.

"The Demon God... was killed?"

"Cultivator Wan Qi killed the Demon God..."

This was followed by irrepressible worship. Spurred on by the upper echelons of Xuli, Wan Qi’s image was already shrouded in a layer of Divinity, and this Divinity had to be actualized through endless victories.

"So Cultivator Wan Qi... is she really an incarnation of Heaven?"

"No! She *is* Heaven! Our god! Our savior!"

"O, Heaven, have you finally opened your eyes?"

The people looked fervently at Wan Qi as she walked through the void, cheering themselves hoarse to vent the turbulent emotions in their hearts.

The cheering was endless.

Wan Qi quietly accepted the crowd’s cheers. She remembered the Divine Ascension Elements left behind by Westheid and knew this was a necessary step.

She didn’t know how to respond to their expectations; she was just doing what she had to do.

"Next..."

The gray-haired, white-robed Cultivator, surrounded by the crowd, spoke:

"Where is the next fortress facing the enemy?"

’I killed the world-ending Demon God who was considered invincible, but I felt no joy. Breaking my limits, earning merit—none of it creates even the slightest ripple within me anymore.’

’I moved from one defensive line to the next, constantly achieving battle records once thought impossible, annihilating wave after wave of the invading Chaos Tides.’

’The great masses cheered, calling my name. The title "Venerable Master of the Azure Heaven" spread like wildfire. Everyone saw me as their savior, followed my every command, and offered me everything they had.’

’But no matter how strong I became, I couldn’t protect everyone. The Chaos offensive grew more intense. The remaining kingdoms fell one after another. Refugees fled to Xuli, and with them came even more Chaos Tides.’

’Every day, every month, entire legions were wiped out, and fortified strongholds were destroyed. No matter how many Chaos Creatures I killed, I couldn’t stop the cataclysm from spreading.’

’Every victory I won was accompanied by irreversible sacrifice.’

’The collapse of civilization was already inevitable.’
