Chapter 212 - 22: I Suppose I’m Also a Knight Lord
Seeking support from the Celestial Vault People was undoubtedly a brilliant move. Westheid himself had never imagined it would be so effective.
Initially, he’d only had the wild idea to connect with the Celestial Vault Kingdom because of his relationship with the Master of Extinction. He figured that since the Celestial Vault Kingdom would have its own hands full in the future, he might as well try to leverage the connection. What if it worked?
Looking back, it was absolutely the right choice. Westheid had been worried he wouldn’t have enough time to reclaim his homeland and rebuild Qinghui Territory before the great upheaval arrived, but now, it seemed he had more than enough time.
Westheid himself didn’t even have to handle things personally anymore. Since the technicians Jing Mu had dispatched from the Celestial Vault Kingdom were so professional, and his own Civil Servants were so industrious, he could just let them take care of it.
In truth, Westheid didn’t want to expend too much energy on politics, even though it was a type of "Merit."
’But how can such trivial matters compare to what’s truly important?’
’Only personal strength is true strength. Great power must ultimately belong to the self.’
CLANG CLANG CLANG—
On the manor’s lawn, Westheid and Mivana were sparring—the real kind, no air quotes needed.
Though it was just a spar, neither of them was holding back. Westheid drew Shadow-Born, and Mivana used a Knight’s Silver Sword. The instant their blades met, countless sparks flew from their edges.
Fierce gusts of wind from their swords scraped past their cheeks, invisibly leveling distant cedar trees and earthen mounds, a testament to the intensity of their fight.
Even as a battle of pure bladework, without any Magic Power, it was like a sweeping storm.
Westheid focused all his attention on Mivana’s assault. Every exchange, parry, block, and dodge sent a thrilling tremor up his spine.
They fought fiercely for hours, exchanging hundreds, if not thousands, of blows and using up the entire morning. They only stopped when Yolanda arrived to give her work report to the Patriarch.
Panting, Westheid asked, "Mivana, without using your curse, am I on par with you now?!"
"Yes, Teacher West, you’re improving very quickly. Without my curse, I can no longer consistently suppress you."
The Lady Knight admitted frankly.
"Hahahaha..."
This made Westheid laugh triumphantly.
’The sheer value of Heart and Soul’s Gift! I’ve basically gotten all of Mivana’s years of honed Combat Techniques for free. From Knightly Hundred Arts to Half-Beast Heart, they’ve all become part of my strength.’
Westheid now possessed nearly all the Talents and Specialties that amplified Mivana’s combat strength, with the exception of her Cursed Source Blood.
’In terms of raw stats, both Mivana and I are at the Hero Tier, and I’m even further along. It can’t be helped; the Dragon Soul Furnace is just too damn good. All it needs is pure slaughter to absorb enough energy to ascend.’
’Consolidation? There’s no need for that. As long as I keep fighting, I can immediately reach the peak of my current Tier.’
The only bottleneck to Westheid’s growth was the Merit required for advancement.
However, the Legend Tier that came after the Hero Tier was not so easily reached. The Merit gained from reclaiming Qinghui Territory alone wasn’t quite enough. He’d likely have to wait for another opportunity.
"That was exhilarating! Next time, let’s take a tour of the front lines again. We can see who can kill more Chaos Creatures."
Westheid said, taking off his jacket and sitting on a bench in the gazebo.
’To be honest, compared to just fucking, what I truly prefer is combat. So satisfying!’
The rumors circulating outside weren’t entirely baseless. Westheid did indeed treat seduction and intercourse as a method for winning people over. If that weren’t the case, his level of debauchery would be several notches lower. Why else would people be making up dirty jokes about him?
"That’s an excellent idea, Brother. The Warriors on the front lines are eagerly awaiting your arrival. The blood you bestowed upon them flows in their veins."
Yolanda said with a nod, "And while you no longer need to handle many things personally thanks to the technology of the Celestial Vault People, as their Lord, it’s still good to boost everyone’s morale."
"I’m going to organize the intake of refugees this afternoon. Would you like to come and observe, Brother?"
Westheid refused, "I never said I was going now. I plan on staying at the manor today."
Then, Duke Qinghui looked nervously toward the Wolf-eared Maiden. As far as he knew, this was the moment Mivana should be looking at him with a scorching gaze.
However, the Lady Knight, who stood ramrod straight, didn’t ask Westheid to help her "channel the Star Universe."
After sucking a large plastic bottle of sports drink completely flat, Mivana turned to the platinum-haired girl instead and said:
"Yolanda, can I go with you to work?"
Westheid said, "....I thought you’d stay behind. It’s not often I have free time."
"Channeling the Star Universe is one thing; addiction is another."
Mivana, of course, knew what Westheid was speculating. After all, she had been rather unrestrained in the past.
She said calmly, "Teacher West’s lessons are meant to help me escape the domination of my instinctive bloodlust curse. If I just swap a bloodlust curse for a Star Universe curse, the destructive power might be lessened, but if I constantly use channeling the Star Universe as an excuse... wouldn’t I become unable to leave Teacher West’s side?"
The Wolf-eared Maiden slowly shook her head. "That’s no good. It’s very bad, in fact. My self-control has only gotten worse."
’Are those words really coming from you?! You Frenzied Rep Wolf!’
Westheid stared at Mivana’s deadly serious expression and found the situation absurd. After all, he was the one she’d squeezed dry on more than one occasion. Once this terrifying Demon God got into her state, she was up for anything.
To increase Mivana’s affection for him, Westheid could only face her advances with a sense of tragic, selfless resolve.
However, Mivana’s virtues were her frankness and introspection. She never shied away from her own faults and weaknesses, so it was only natural for her to correct herself after realizing she had gone too far.
Then again, ever since Reiya had left, the frequency with which Mivana came to Westheid for "channeling" had dropped more and more. Westheid couldn’t say for sure if there was a causal relationship.
"But why do you want to follow Yolanda? She’s not going to fight bandits; there’s no combat for you to help with."
Mivana learning some self-control was a good thing, so Westheid moved on to his other question.
To his surprise, the Lady Knight gave an answer he never would have expected:
"Because I want to learn how to govern a territory. That is the one thing Teacher Viona never taught me."
"I’m technically a Knight Lord... I think."
"Huh?"
Westheid froze, then said:
"I’ve never heard that one before."
Mivana replied, "Because I don’t think I’m qualified to be a Knight Lord, nor have I fulfilled any of my duties. But in legal terms, I am a Knight Lord of the Country of Yonglan."
’Great, just great! So every last one of you is a crouching tiger, hidden dragon, is that it?!’
