Chapter 199 - 9: Something You All Don’t Know
The moment Westheid finished speaking, Luyetan’s effortless smile faltered.
The beautiful eyes of Yuanxi Palace trembled for a moment before she composed herself and returned to a calm, formulaic smile.
"Duke Qinghui... what are you talking about?"
Westheid had seized the initiative again. The corners of his mouth lifted as he said:
"Money is meaningless to you—it’s just a number. That being the case, the interest will naturally have to be paid with something Yuanxi Palace truly cares about... Haven’t the generations of the Yuanxi Clan always been troubled by their impure bloodline?"
Luyetan subconsciously touched her own lovely, pointed ears and forced a smile.
"What are you talking about? It’s true I’m not a pure-blooded human, but the Imperial is very tolerant of all races. A bit of Elf blood is hardly a big deal, is it?"
"I recall that when we first met, Yuanxi Palace specifically emphasized that you did not have Elven blood."
Westheid said flatly:
"You can lie to your pals, but don’t lie to yourself. A pal might just laugh it off if you lie to them, but you shouldn’t be the one crying yourself to sleep over it. As it happens, I know a few inside details about the deeds of the Yuanxi Clan’s ancestor, the Void Law Holy Spirit."
Luyetan’s smile finally vanished from her pretty face. She gave Westheid a long, deep look and said:
"Inside details? I wonder what inside details Duke Qinghui could possibly know? Or have you just been listening to more rumors?"
The Holy Spirit Ancestor of the Yuanxi Clan was named the Void Law Holy Spirit. Although they were both Holy Spirits...
...the difference between Holy Spirits could be greater than that between a man and a dog. There were those like the Radiant Holy Tree who achieved Ascension and became a Celestial God, and then there were wastes of space like the Pure Holy Spirit who purely lowered the bar for all Holy Spirits.
The Void Law Holy Spirit, however, was particularly special. Before joining the Imperial, she had belonged to the Thousand Laws Royal Court and had even served as a subordinate to Emperor Qianlu.
Only after the Emperor’s Ascension did the Yuanshi Territory break away from the Royal Court to become independent. It was subsequently integrated into the Imperial’s Branch of Prosperity system during the Great Expedition.
Because of this history, the Yuanshi Territory was caught between the Royal Court and the Imperial, its relationship with both sides tangled and ambiguous.
This gave rise to considerable criticism within the Imperial. However, because the Branch of Prosperity system was indisputable, this criticism was limited to mere gossip and rumors.
Seeing Yuanxi Palace remain stubborn, Westheid simply turned to Reiya and said:
"Do you know why the Void Law Holy Spirit preserved the records of her time as a slave under Emperor Qianlu?"
The White-haired Dragon Lady played along perfectly, replying, "Why?"
Westheid: "To arouse everyone’s sympathy. What you all don’t know is that this part of her history has long been embellished... Her true identity was a Star Fury. She sold her body in the Royal Court—a story passed down from my ancestors... Her years serving Emperor Qianlu were actually spent selling her body. One session for one Magic Pool. My ancestor was a true native of those lands. He fucked the Void Law Holy Spirit."
"PFFT—BWAHAHAHA!"
Westheid’s speech didn’t hit Reiya’s funny bone, but Luyetan, on the other hand, burst out laughing. The Yuanshi Lord clutched her stomach, bent over with laughter, her fragrant shoulders trembling nonstop.
"Since when did the Pure Holy Spirit become privy to such absurd rumors? The Imperial Citizens have all sorts of speculations about the Yuanxi Clan, but never... I can’t believe someone would actually say something so outrageous."
Luyetan sighed as if a great weight had been lifted from her shoulders, rubbing the corners of her eyes where tears of laughter had formed.
"Should I be angry? As the Yuanxi Patriarch, your words could be considered an insult to the Yuanxi Clan, but... pfft—West, West... you really are an interesting one!"
"Is it a rumor? I don’t think so."
Westheid continued:
"Because she served as a conduit for Star Fury Power for too long and was forcefully infused by Emperor Qianlu, the Void Law Holy Spirit’s body was inevitably mixed with the Enchanter Bloodline. This bloodline was then passed down to her descendants."
"Although the Enchanter Bloodline is the True Blood of Emperor Qianlu, this True Blood is no honor. Unlike that of other Celestial Gods, Emperor Qianlu’s bloodline is not a gift, but a restraint—a shackle."
"!!!"
This time, Luyetan couldn’t laugh at all.
She stared dead at Westheid, her beautiful, brilliant eyes filled with shock.
’The entire process was wrong, but the conclusion was completely right!’
’Did you fucking guess, or do you actually know?!’
Westheid said faintly, "Being branded with the shackles of the Enchanter Bloodline can’t feel good, can it? What if I told you I have a way to break those shackles?"
"Ha. Duke Qinghui, you’ve surprised me. That’s right, I do carry a trace of the Enchanter Bloodline. And while my Holy Spirit Ancestor was not as despicable as you claim, she was indeed branded as a slave."
Luyetan frankly admitted her family’s dark history, tracing her lips with the tip of her thumb as she spoke:
"But breaking these shackles is something even the Radiant Holy Tree cannot do. How do you plan to do it?"
"They say it can’t be done, but the truth is the Radiant Holy Tree just doesn’t want to start a conflict with another Celestial God. Using a bloodline as a shackle is a fundamental bottom line for Emperor Qianlu."
Westheid said with complete confidence:
"But I *do* have a way. Guaranteed to work, sis... However, not right now. After the Qinghui Territory is rebuilt, I’ll make a special trip to help you sever those chains."
’To think you’d offer such a temptation...’
Luyetan bit her finger and smiled. "That truly is an offer I can’t refuse. I have no choice but to agree now."
Duke Qinghui was not one to make empty promises; he took every one of his commitments very seriously. Luyetan knew this well, so she could only sigh and say:
"The Yuanshi Territory will continue to aid you. Is that acceptable?"
However, Westheid pushed his luck:
"Actually, my plan is to completely rebuild the Qinghui Territory into an incredibly prosperous and fertile land within one or two years. Support in the form of materials and wealth alone likely won’t be enough. I need technology—the technology to build an Ideal City in an extremely short amount of time."
"So... could I trouble Yuanxi Palace to introduce me to some clients from the Celestial Vault Kingdom?"
The Void Law Holy Spirit’s power was the mastery of space. The Star Gates built on the Holy Land of the Yuanshi Territory required no transfer points and could connect to almost any location in the Mortal World.
An absolute teleportation hub—this was why the Yuanshi Territory had become a great commercial metropolis. Communication and transport were simply too convenient, and merchant groups from every nation and region of the Mortal World gathered there.
It wasn’t just the Imperial and the Royal Court; even the Celestial Vault Kingdom had some trade dealings with the Yuanshi Territory.
Hearing this, Luyetan immediately put on a strained smile and looked at Westheid with a peculiar expression.
"Duke Qinghui, what do you take me for? If it were any other clients, I could make an introduction for you. But those arrogant Celestial Vault People... I hardly ever see them myself, let alone ask them to aid the Qinghui Territory. I don’t have that much pull."
"Of course I wouldn’t ask you to persuade them."
Westheid gave a mysterious smile and took out the Mask of Fallen Heaven.
"Take a picture. All you have to do is show them this, and leave the rest to me."
