Chapter 785: Unlucky Twin Sister (14)
Just as the three of them were lost in their thoughts, Qiann Yan returned with a bowl in hand, containing two fragrant eggs.
Yang Chunhua jumped up in anger upon seeing this: "What are you doing? You lazy girl, you stole eggs to eat."
"Lazy?" Qiann Yan’s gaze swept over to Pei QianLan, "I’m talking about you, doing nothing yet eating eggs, do you deserve it?"
Qiann Yan placed the bowl on the table, and Yang Chunhua reached out with her chopsticks, ready to hit her. Qiann Yan looked up, "Just try hitting me, then nobody will eat today."
Thinking of past events, Yang Chunhua backed down.
However, Pei Jian Country was clearly unaware of the previous events. He forcefully put down his bowl and chopsticks, evidently displeased by Qiann Yan cooking eggs for herself.
"Stand up!"
Qiann Yan continued eating, too lazy to respond.
"I told you to stand up." Pei Jian Country raised his voice, "Who let you cook eggs privately? Are you reincarnated from a starving ghost?"
Qiann Yan bit into the egg, swallowed after chewing, then said: "You all have them, there’s no reason for me not to. I’m the main labor force of this household. If anyone is unqualified to eat this egg, it’s her."
Qiann Yan looked at Pei QianLan: "Starting today, I get a share of whatever is eaten at home. If my share is missing, no problem, I’ll make it myself."
Pei Jian Country raised his hand to hit Qiann Yan, but Pei QianLan quickly held him back, knowing that if this slap landed, she would receive a slap too.
Pei Qian Yan, with her black heart, would certainly do this without a doubt.
"I won’t stop you from wanting to go to school, but the family doesn’t have the money," Pei Jian Country said slowly after sitting down, "You need to figure it out for yourself, whether you can attend depends on your capabilities."
Qiann Yan didn’t respond, continuing to eat.
Pei Jian Country continued, "If you don’t go to school, your mom and I will find you a suitor from a well-off family, marry them, wouldn’t that be better than studying? Education costs so much, the family can’t afford it. We can’t let everyone tighten their belts just for your schooling."
Qiann Yan still didn’t answer, and Pei Jian Country thought she had accepted her fate and said no more.
Quietly finishing her meal, Qiann Yan went out to work.
Having achieved her goal of spreading Pei QianLan’s reputation, she no longer needed to drag her along. After all, it’s only for this period of time.
She needed to tell the village about the family’s inability to afford tuition, so everyone understands the parents’ behavior. In the future, when she treats them differently, the villagers won’t gossip. Just for this, she must accept the villagers’ support to repay them openly later.
As for these two, they should just leave.
In the following days, life became relatively uneventful. The couple believed they had grasped Qiann Yan’s lifeline but, seeing her working diligently, decided not to intervene much.
They furtively got hold of some nice food, whereas Qiann Yan would make sure to eat some herself, making the two no longer dare to secretly eat good food. So the family simply stopped eating well, avoiding having to share with her, which worried Pei QianLan.
In these days, most households were poor. Her family had three laborers, which wasn’t bad; originally she could eat an egg every day.
Because Qiann Yan could not eat, Pei QianLan was dying of craving, but had no choice.
With the day of university reporting approaching, Pei QianLan hadn’t found Qiann Yan’s admission notice and ID card and assumed they were hidden by Yang Chunhua as in the past but didn’t inquire further.
Anyway, what she was going to do next would prevent Pei Qian Yan from attending even if she had the paperwork.
That night, late into the midnight.
Pei QianLan sneaked out of bed, glancing at Qiann Yan’s position. Seeing her breathing evenly and steadily, she assumed she was asleep and tiptoed out of the room.
