Chapter 402: The Palace Doors Swing Wide Open
Now, all the Demon Race are intently watching the three people in the sand land.
Who would have thought, after the failure of the Six Old Immortals, someone would dare to enter this Death Sand Land, a burial ground for many skilled individuals.
"They’re so fast!"
"Almost as fast as the Six Old Immortals."
Of course, Li Rui possessed even greater speed, although he didn’t unleash it; he hadn’t activated the Shenxiao Thunderbolt Heart Scripture yet. Once he did, even if Cheng Mingyue could keep up, the mighty warriors would certainly lag behind. This Giant Ape Race excelled at long-distance trekking, not short bursts, especially with the substantial difference in strength.
He had considered leaving some members of the Demon Race outside and entering with only Cheng Mingyue, but after thinking it over, he realized the risk was too high. After all, outside were desert bandits, and even if the mighty warriors had been continuously enriched with heavenly materials and treasures recently, having fairly good strength, the opponents were too numerous.
Should those inherently bloodthirsty and plundering desert bandits go crazy, even with Zhu Wen, they couldn’t possibly withstand them.
Now, their group approached the place of whipping.
Swish, swish, swish!
Countless enormous whips made of sand appeared in mid-air, sweeping towards the crowd with a whistling sound.
No explanation was needed; Cheng Mingyue directly gave Li Rui four ordinary boosters. Such things didn’t require overly formidable skills to handle.
Li Rui himself finally activated the Shenxiao Thunderbolt Heart Scripture, simultaneously casting Gold and Iron Horse.
Divine Thunder turned into a steed beneath him, charging straight towards those whips without retreat.
The number of onlooking Demon Race individuals grew, and anyone with a bit of strength immediately noticed its power upon seeing Li Rui’s skill.
"So fast, he can charge right through!"
Almost all members of the Demon Race thought this, but they quickly realized they were mistaken.
Li Rui didn’t rely solely on the speed of the two skills to rush towards the palace. Instead, he turned the horse’s head, rampaged back and forth, and every time a sand whip attacked a companion, it was directly scattered by him.
Swish, swish!
The scattering of the sand was silent, yet the demons watched from behind as he charged left and right, utterly shocked.
Until now, no one had managed to so effortlessly handle those sand whips; every challenger thought only of getting through as quickly as possible.
In just a few brief moments, all the sand whips were struck down, and Li Rui shattered them—giving the mighty warriors time to rush forward in the rear.
Yet, in no time, everyone, including Li Rui himself, was amazed to find that these whips were indeed limited. After intercepting all attacks, the area became safe—as long as caution was taken not to be swallowed by quicksand.
"Follow closely!"
Li Rui felt a wave of relief as he continued charging forward on his thunderous warhorse. The pack of undead indeed began to flutter, yet everyone quickly realized that something was off.
The fierce vengeful spirit that had once shredded one of the Six Old Immortals dared not approach Li Rui, flashing with golden light.
Li Rui also realized this when facing these Yin Sha, discovering their strength was not exceptionally high. However, as ghosts, they exerted great psychological pressure on most living beings, with an elusive form, making them strong in both damage and deterrence.
Unfortunately, confronted with the golden, dazzling Divine Thunder in his hand, these ghostly Yin Sha were indeed not formidable enough; instinctively they dared not come close. Occasionally spotting a potential opening, attempting a dash to launch an assault, they were quickly neutralized.
Zhu Wen felt as though his eyes were opened; living for so many years, he had never considered there might be such a powerful person in the world.
Now, looking back at his dead-on-arrival spirit before setting off, it seemed somewhat laughable.
Of course, this was his own perspective; Li Rui did not find it amusing. He continuously scattered the undead, shielding others across the Array of the Departed Soul, indifferent to chasing those evasive Yin Sha, directly entering the next area.
As anticipated, the six-armed sand-carved Divine General rose again from the earth, blocking the front like a gatekeeper.
"No need for augmentation."
Li Rui suddenly said something Cheng Mingyue hadn’t expected.
"Why?" She rarely questioned.
Li Rui replied, "Because I won’t be personally taking action."
At this moment, the clamor from the Demon Race outside fell silent again.
They fixed their gazes on the giant statue and Li Rui, eagerly anticipating what would happen next.
Would the incarnation that nearly vanquished half of the Six Old Immortals emerge victorious, or would the figure that continuously overcame the external challenges with invincible might manage to proceed smoothly?
Under the watchful eyes of all the Demon Race, Li Rui spurred his thunderous warhorse into a charge, crashing into it.
The giant’s six arms simultaneously descended, smashing from various directions. As both parties collided once more, sand clouds billowed, obscuring visibility.
The Demon Race members wished they could urge two who could wield wind to quickly clear the smoke and see what was truly happening within.
However, in the next instant, they ceased to be curious, for amidst the swirling dust, the head of a giant python emerged.
Plenty of timid Demon Race members even screamed in alarm, overwhelmed by the enormous snake’s Evil Qi, far beyond the prior vengeful spirits. It wrangled with the giant statue fiercely, battling to a standstill.
By this point, Li Rui seized the opportunity to bypass the guarded part of the statue, standing before the palace.
Given time, along with Cheng Mingyue’s enhancements, he might attempt to instantaneously annihilate the statue using the cavalry charge and Blood Soul, alongside the final blow of Gold and Iron Horse. But there was no need to play so many cards at this stage; various threats might still lie within the palace.
After Li Rui and his companions left the kill zone and stood at the palace entrance, the statue promptly collapsed, and the python engaged in its constriction missed its target, being absorbed back into the Great Demon Black Law.
The Sharp-toothed Snake Demon watching from the opposite shore trembled with fear. Previously insolent towards Li Rui, he now recognized that, were it not for Li Rui’s good temper, his life would already have ended.
The other members of the Demon Race gawked with envy or trepidation, rushing to report to their leaders.
Yet Li Rui truly paid no heed to them, having already begun examining the gates of the palace, similarly golden and jade-like in appearance. But upon closer inspection, it didn’t possess the majesty of a river of gold and white jade.
Approaching further, he touched it lightly, sensing an icy chill that felt quite refreshing in the scorching desert.
"Over here."
Cheng Mingyue waved from nearby, beside a half-human-tall column.
The top of the column was carved with a beast, shaped like a tiger or leopard, with a head and tail resembling a long snake, winged shoulders, a single horn atop its head, and six legs coiled in a kneeling position upon the column’s summit.
Its mouth gaped forward, with a pitch-black throat resembling a bottomless pit.
Li Rui approached, inspecting it for a moment, then looked at the column’s position, directly before the door.
"Seems like I should place the treasure coins into its mouth."
"I thought the same," Cheng Mingyue responded.
Li Rui attempted tossing in a coin first; he had enough in hand.
Sure enough, a sway of majesty rippled from the pillar, and the palace’s golden-jade-like gate shimmered. Then a flashing circle appeared in its upper left corner.
Li Rui continued throwing coins, as more circles materialized on the door until nine rows of nine columns ultimately formed a total of eighty-one.
Concurrently, amidst a forlorn sound, the palace door slowly opened.
