Chapter 383: On the Brink
"The Divine Son of the Polar Alliance, Vons, has appeared!"
With these words, the command post of the Western Kingdom in the rear valley was set alight. Ulysses snorted coldly, "I knew there would be problems. My intuition has been telling me this for a long time."
He seemed both angry and pleased.
"Simon, it’s your turn to take the stage now, act quickly. Hopkins is entangled with Vons. As long as you get there swiftly, you can secure victory."
Simon nodded and walked out without saying a word.
"Wait!"
Ulysses called to him, "Quick win, act fast, finish and come back immediately. Don’t concern yourself with anything else."
Simon had tolerated this conservative strategy for a long time, and now he couldn’t hold it anymore: "Why? If I kill Vons, I can continue pursuing them."
"No," Ulysses said seriously, "You must return. I feel the Dragon Country is too quiet. They must be plotting something as well, yet I haven’t received any intelligence, which makes me uneasy."
He stared at the map, as if talking to himself or the surrounding staff, "If Simon can kill Vons here, the Polar Alliance will be severely damaged. As long as we can retreat intact, it would even the odds."
"By then, both we and they will be weaker than the Dragon Country. That cautious Bishop will surely agree to an alliance, which isn’t an unacceptable outcome."
He calculated the macro-level strategic plan, his eyes continuously fixed on the marked Dragon Country-controlled area.
"What on earth are they thinking?"
....
In Yellow Earth City, Chen Cheng rushed into the command room, elated.
"It’s back! My perception is back!"
"....."
A moment of silence, with no one responding to him.
"Hey, what’s the matter with you all? What’s the situation now? Why are you all so downcast?"
Cheng Wen, who was quite familiar with him, irritably told him not to make a fuss.
Kong Ji grinned and explained, "Our intelligence has discovered some rather... interesting situations."
"Interesting? They all look quite upset to me."
Chen Cheng squeezed into the crowd unreservedly to look at the map, "What’s going on?"
Kong Ji explained, "It seems like some major figures from the Western Kingdom, like Hopkins, have been withdrawn."
"What’s so strange about that? Isn’t it quite normal to hide away?"
Chen Cheng said, "If you’re not sure, why not let me prophesy?"
Cheng Wen finally spoke, "No, wait a bit longer. We need to confirm more information. Your ability cannot be wasted."
After another round of tense discussions and brainstorming, along with more reports from intelligence personnel, the command tier of the Dragon Country roughly confirmed a situation: most of the main forces of the Western Kingdom had been withdrawn from their original positions.
"Chen Cheng, find Ulysses."
Cheng Wen said grimly, "If I’m not mistaken, he should have gone south. 0101, quickly count the men, prepare to apply pressure to the west, and find a way to force them back."
Kong Ji responded promptly and went to make preparations.
Chen Cheng, while preparing the tools needed for his ability, asked, "If it’s an issue with that Demon Race King, why not directly call him south for support?"
"There’s no time. They have two additional Prophets who misled our intelligence. It’s too late now," Cheng Wen replied.
Chen Cheng was puzzled, "Isn’t it just one more? The Western Kingdom had three Prophets in total, and Li Rui got rid of one."
"Weren’t you paralyzed days ago?"
Cheng Wen mockingly said, "Stop babbling, you can start peering south now. My suggestion is to target that nameless valley, where their temporary command post is likely located."
Although Chen Cheng felt a bit frustrated, he said nothing. After all, he had caused this backlash himself, which couldn’t be washed away.
Once he prepared all the tools, he began to cast his ability.
With eyes closed, blurred images started to appear.
The advantage of his skill was seeing the desired scene firsthand, while the downside was the lack of control. He didn’t know if what he saw belonged to the past, the future, or even the present.
This ability is generally unusable for predicting overlapping realities in a municipal branch due to its low accuracy, but it is quite useful in actual combat.
Endless hordes of the Demon Race appeared before him. This was the army of the Wind Slave Royal Court, seen from above, diving into the preset valley.
He couldn’t precisely control this view, suggesting the starting point could be chosen, which was related to his attributes and skill proficiency.
Nonetheless, different scenes emerged before him, providing more information.
He saw Ulysses entering the nameless valley, along with many Western Kingdom people.
That was.....
Hopkins.
Charles?
Simon!
He looked at each of them, surprised to find that the core elites of the Western Kingdom were all here, and every recognizable figure was a high-risk target.
"Huff—"
His ability ended, Chen Cheng took a deep breath and recounted everything he saw.
Cheng Wen squinted his eyes, "Li Rui is in trouble. We don’t have enough time to support from here, so we can only seize the opportunity to launch an attack from the north, forcing Ulysses back. This old fox still has a gambling instinct in him."
.....
Li Rui saw an interesting scene through his binoculars.
A nimble figure was sprinting from the rear of the Royal Court’s army to the front, leaving an impression of both speed and strength.
The reason for highlighting speed was due to how fast the figure moved, and strength because he had to leap high into the air every certain distance, crossing much longer stretches.
Yet each jump nearly spanned dozens of meters, crashing down like a shell.
This movement style was extremely fast, and the guy crossed the army’s rear and the central royal banner in no time, heading for the most intense battle zone ahead.
Li Rui naturally recognized this as Simon. After seeing the figure completely disappear, he said, "Their backup is in motion. Now, we can charge down and give those Demon Race members a surprise."
Ju Ye grinned sinisterly.
"Mount up!"
Swish—
The ghost riders mounted their warhorses uniformly, their eyes filled with something called fury.
The team, enveloped in Evil Qi, galloped from the hilltop, charging down Howling Wind Mountain at high speed, heading straight for the somewhat chaotic Demon Race formation below.
The Royal Court’s Demon Race soon discovered this troop.
Although the upper echelons of the Royal Court had tried to cover the news, the lower-level Demon Race members had heard long ago that the loyal Divine Power cavalry had turned into deadly specters, coming to kill all traitors.
Now, seeing the Evil Qi spreading to the sky, the Demon Race forces, waiting to rotate to the frontline at the rear, felt a chilly foreboding.
"Form up! Not one step back! Disobeying orders means death!"
The Demon Race commander, loyal to the King of Suiye, was responsible for protecting the royal banner and cared little for any former king or cavalry; he would repel any enemy.
Yet just as he assembled elite shield guards at the front to intercept the ghost riders’ charge, he suddenly saw an outsider figure flash from the back.
Then came the crimson flames that filled him with foreboding.
"Aah—"
Amidst the wails and screams, the shield guards scattered under the pressure of the Great Fire Bell Spell, and taking this opportunity, the ghost riders broke through the remaining fire and pierced into the Demon Race’s formation.
