Two days later, the Fourth Division of the Ninja Forces arrived in the Land of Rivers without incident.
Under Kabuto’s direction, Kakashi, Kurenai, and the others quickly began setting up camp.
Before long, a temporary base capable of housing five thousand shinobi rose from the barren ground.
Around the perimeter, Kabuto had already led the Summoning Beast Unit to lay down a dense web of traps. On top of that, he’d arranged poisonous snakes and concealed White Zetsu clones as hidden sentries.
Any Konoha ninja who approached would be detected immediately.
In fact, during the two days before Kitazawa and the others arrived, Kabuto had already captured three Suna squads—ANBU units Rasa had dispatched to gather intel.
"Kitazawa-sensei."
Kabuto entered the large command tent prepared for Kitazawa and went straight to the point. "What should we do with Baki?"
"Keep him locked up for now," Kitazawa said after a brief pause.
Baki was Gaara’s sensei.
Now that Gaara had joined the Genius Class, casually killing Baki would be inappropriate. Besides, Kitazawa was already planning to form a ninja team with the three siblings—Gaara, Kankuro, and Temari.
"Understood." Kabuto hesitated for a moment, then asked, "Will you attend the upcoming strategy meeting?"
"No." Kitazawa shook his head. "As I said before, I am merely an observer."
"I understand, Kitazawa-sensei."
Kabuto felt slightly relieved. This was exactly the situation he’d been hoping for.
It wasn’t that he was worried Kitazawa might steal his credit. As Hokage, additional merit meant little to Kitazawa now.
What Kabuto truly feared was that if Kitazawa personally stepped onto the battlefield, the war with Konoha would be over in an instant—and as the nominal commander, Kabuto would lose any chance to prove himself.
He bowed slightly and turned to leave.
"Zetsu."
Kitazawa thought for a moment, then called out.
"Hokage-sama."
A White Zetsu clone emerged from outside and stepped into the tent.
"How are the other three divisions?" Kitazawa asked casually.
"They have all reached their designated positions," White Zetsu replied. "So far, there have been no clashes with the three great ninja villages."
By "designated positions," he meant the small nations bordering the Five Great Nations—the agreed-upon battlefields for this conflict.
For example, the battlefield between the Fourth Division and Konoha had been set in the Land of Rivers.
This arrangement was a tacit understanding between the Five Great Villages: use the border countries as battlegrounds to avoid devastating their own lands.
"Notify me immediately if anything happens," Kitazawa said with a wave of his hand.
"Yes, Hokage-sama."
White Zetsu sank into the ground and vanished.
Kitazawa stretched lazily, then lay back on the carpet.
At that moment, three lines of glowing text suddenly appeared before his eyes.

Kurenai sat down at his side, took out a mission scroll, and said, "Our team’s mission is to rescue various outposts."
Ninja wars generally unfolded in two main forms.
The first was large-scale, head-on clashes.
But those were rare.
That kind of battle didn’t let shinobi make full use of their strengths.
Ninja excelled at infiltration and assassination.
The second form was where they truly shone: small-scale skirmishes.
Fighting over outposts, conducting rescue operations, ambushing, and so on.
The rescue mission assigned to Kurenai’s team was without a doubt S-rank—and the most dangerous kind.
They would have to cross the entire battlefield to carry out rescues.
"What’s Suna’s war strategy?" Kitazawa thought for a moment before asking.
"Positional warfare," Kurenai replied. "According to Kabuto, Suna has built a lot of outposts."
Positional warfare meant Suna intended to drag the conflict out.
They wanted to turn it into a war of attrition.
Kitazawa understood at once.
This strategy had to be Chiyo’s work.
He pondered briefly, and an idea formed in his mind.
He would leak Kurenai’s team’s movements to Suna.
Under normal circumstances, such an act would be nothing short of betrayal.
But Kitazawa knew exactly how strong Kurenai’s team was—and he intended to guard them from the shadows.
In that case, the "leak" would no longer be betrayal, but bait for a trap.
Kurenai’s relationship with him was common knowledge.
"When does your team depart?"
Kitazawa snapped back to reality and asked.
"We leave after resting for two hours," Kurenai replied. "Our first target is the outpost on the border between the Land of Rivers and the Land of Fire."
"Then don’t waste time resting."
Kitazawa lay back and patted the carpet beside him. "Come, rest here."
Kurenai smiled and lay down next to him.
Time slipped by.
Two hours later, Kurenai assembled Yakumo, Karin, and Kiba and led them out of the temporary base.
They weren’t the only ones. Other ninja teams were also setting off after receiving their respective missions.
"Zetsu."
Kitazawa sat up and called out.
"Hokage-sama."
White Zetsu emerged and stepped into the room.
"Leak Kurenai’s team’s location to Suna in two days," Kitazawa ordered.
He had waited two days precisely to avoid arousing Suna’s suspicion.
If Kurenai’s team had already been active on the front lines for two days before White Zetsu "discovered" them and passed on their position, the intel would appear far more credible.
"Yes, Hokage-sama," White Zetsu replied.
For it, passing along information was trivial. In addition to burrowing underground, it also possessed transformation jutsu.
After White Zetsu departed, Kitazawa suddenly found himself idle.
If not for the system mission, he would have just taken the field alone, crushed the forces of all four villages, and ended the Fourth Great Ninja War in an instant.
From his current vantage point, though, his restraint had clearly been the right choice.
Three different system missions tied to the Fourth Great Ninja War had already been triggered.
"Konan." Kitazawa smiled as he called out.

Konan appeared before him, and he immediately pulled her down into the bedding.
On the third day—
Suna’s temporary base.
"Kazekage-sama."
An ANBU ninja hurried into the command tent.
"What is it?" Rasa asked, his tone calm.
"We’ve located Kurenai’s team," the ANBU reported quietly.
"Kurenai?" Rasa raised an eyebrow. "Kitazawa’s girlfriend?"
"That’s her," the ANBU confirmed.
"Where are they?" Rasa’s eyes narrowed.
"At an outpost on the border between the Land of Rivers and the Land of Fire," the ANBU explained.
He went on to describe what had happened earlier: Suna ninja had attacked a Konoha outpost and been intercepted by Kurenai’s team.
"So they’re still holding that outpost?" Rasa took a few measured steps, thinking.
"Yes, Kazekage-sama," the ANBU answered softly.
"Go and invite Chiyo," Rasa said after a brief pause.
"Yes, Kazekage-sama."
The ANBU turned and left.
Before long, Chiyo entered the tent.
"Chiyo, what do you think?"
Rasa laid out the situation regarding Kurenai’s team, then posed the question.
"This is indeed a great opportunity," Chiyo said, mulling it over. "If we capture Yūhi Kurenai, we’ll definitely be able to get Gaara back."
"From what I know, the most troublesome members on Kurenai’s team are Kurenai herself and Kurama Yakumo. Their genjutsu is extremely potent."
"But, Elder Chiyo, your puppets should be completely immune to illusions," Rasa added after a short pause.
Puppets were inanimate; genjutsu simply couldn’t affect them—so long as Chiyo herself didn’t fall prey to Yakumo’s illusions.
As for Karin and Kiba, they weren’t particularly noteworthy.
One was a medical-nin, the other an Inuzuka; at best, they were standard jōnin-level.
"Then I’ll make the trip," Chiyo said, understanding Rasa’s intent. He wanted her to personally move to capture Yūhi Kurenai’s team.
And indeed, sending her was the safest option.
Rasa, as Kazekage, had to remain at headquarters.
"Thank you for your trouble, Elder Chiyo," Rasa said.
"I’ll set off immediately."
Chiyo turned at once, taking three Hidden Sand jonin with her as she departed.

At the southeastern outpost, Kurenai and her team were waiting for the Konoha squad that would relieve them.
Without warning, Karin’s eyes snapped open.
"Enemies?" Kurenai asked immediately.
Karin had awakened the Mind’s Eye of the Kagura.
Their team already had Kiba for tracking, but the Mind’s Eye of the Kagura far surpassed Kiba’s senses. On previous missions, this ability alone had let them slip past Sand ninja several times.
"Yes," Karin replied. "Four Hidden Sand jonin."
"A four-man jonin team is unusual unless it’s a high-priority mission."
Kurenai frowned. "Are they coming for us?"
"Based on their route, they’re heading straight here," Karin confirmed with a nod.
"The replacement team still hasn’t arrived..." After a brief pause, Kurenai made her decision. "Prepare for battle."
They could have hidden, but there was no need to.
"Yes!" Yakumo, Karin, and Kiba answered in unison.
Kurenai moved to a higher vantage point overlooking the approach.
Before long, four figures appeared in the distance.
"Chiyo?" Kurenai’s eyes widened slightly.
"Something feels off," Yakumo murmured, analyzing the scene. "For Elder Chiyo, a high-ranking Sand official, to show up here... unless she knew we were here."
"She’s most likely here to capture us," Kurenai said with a soft snort. Given her connection to Kitazawa, delivering Kurenai to Sunagakure would be incredibly valuable.
"Then they really messed up!" Kiba suddenly grew excited. "If our team captures Chiyo, that’d be a huge achievement!"
"It would indeed be a great achievement." Kurenai was taken aback for a moment, then smiled.
"Kurenai-sensei, should we capture her?" Kiba asked, eyes shining with anticipation.
"Karin, you’ll hold off Chiyo. We’ll take care of the other Sand jonin, then come support you," Kurenai decided after a brief consideration.
Chiyo was a famous puppeteer in the ninja world—and puppets were immune to genjutsu. Whether it was her or Yakumo, facing Chiyo head-on would be troublesome. Kiba’s straightforward strength also wasn’t enough.
Only Karin, as the Nine-Tail’s jinchuriki, could stall Chiyo.
Down below, Chiyo and the three jonin came to a halt. She lifted her gaze toward the outpost.
"Kurenai Yuhi, if you surrender, I will spare your three students," Chiyo called out.
"Do you really think that’s possible, Elder Chiyo?" Kurenai replied with a faint smile.
"You know it’s me, and you’re still that confident?" Chiyo snorted. She unfurled a scroll with a practiced motion. "Then let me see how strong you truly are."
Chikamatsu’s Ten Puppets!
In an instant, ten white-robed puppets burst forth and took formation around her.
Seeing this, Karin sprang into action.
"...?" Chiyo’s brows knit in confusion.
What was this? She had expected Kurenai or Yakumo to step forward. Instead, it was the medical ninja, Karin.
Chiyo thought for a moment, then snapped her hands forward.
Cold light flashed.
All ten puppets lunged, unleashing a storm of ninja tools that howled through the air toward Karin.
Tailed Beast Mode!
Karin’s hands flew through a series of seals.
Dark chakra erupted from her body, wrapping her in a cloak of Tailed Beast chakra. A single tail whipped into existence behind her.
"Jinchuriki!" Chiyo’s expression instantly darkened, a mix of shock and anger.
Shock that a jinchuriki was hidden within Kurenai’s team.
