Chapter 400 - 244: Count Engle’s Extraordinary Encounter, Essence of Life (2)
Half an hour later, in an underground space, Michael emerged from the dark river with Count Engel gasping for breath.
"Damn it, this isn’t the exit!"
Looking at the dim underground space surrounded totally by dirt, Michael’s expression changed.
Then, one by one, figures appeared, their expressions changing as well.
Because at this moment, before them was not the exit, the light was not representing the outside world, but the faint glow emitted from a massive root system ahead. They were in an underground space, completely covered by dirt, with no passage leading out.
"Let’s go up and recover for a bit!"
A hoarse voice spoke, Count Engel mustered up his energy and instructed the crowd.
No matter if this place was the exit or not, Count Engel was well aware.
In their current condition, they were not suitable to continue exploring; encountering dangers could lead to unpredictable consequences.
What was most needed now was recovery.
Not only him, but the others were also in the same situation.
"Alright!"
Michael’s face looked gloomy, but facing Count Engel’s words, he did not hesitate, quickly climbing up with Count Engel.
Throughout the underground space, apart from the lake formed by the dark river, there was also quite a large platform, where everyone quickly congregated.
Immediately upon arrival, knights lay flat on the ground.
The prolonged battle had not only pushed Count Engel, Michael, and Chesire to their limits, but others had reached theirs as well.
Count Engel waved his hand, distributing bottles of Life Potion, allowing everyone to recover.
He himself took out a High-Level Recovery Potion and drank it, handing another bottle to Michael.
Despite the High-Level Recovery Potion being priced much less than the High-Level Life Potion, it was far costlier than the Mid-Level Recovery Potion—each bottle valued over fifty thousand Gold Coins, totaling a hundred thousand for two bottles. Yet, Count Engel could not afford to worry about this at the moment.
In this dangerous Exotic World, he needed to quickly regain his combat power; otherwise, what would happen next could be unpredictably perilous.
That Tier Four Peak Magical Beast was still a threat.
Since this wasn’t the exit, next they’d likely have to retrace their path, even while preparing for the possibility of that Tier Four Magical Beast coming for them.
"Gulp!"
The High-Level Recovery Potion swiftly entered his mouth.
A surge of Life Source Power spread through him, as the greenish glow began to emit from Count Engel’s body, with his injuries slowly starting to heal.
And around him, knights were also starting their recovery after consuming their Life Potion.
Time progressed slowly.
In the blink of an eye, a day had passed, with the potions’ effects gradually wearing off.
"Huff!"
Exhaling heavily, Count Engel sighed deeply; even the High-Level Recovery Potion was falling short against his current depletion, barely recovering his shattered right arm while his overdrafted Life Source Power and suppressed Spiritual Power remained unrecoverable.
Compared to his full strength, his capabilities now were roughly only thirty percent.
A match against an ordinary Sky Knight or a standard Tier Four Magical Beast might not be problematic but only ordinary; facing off against a Tier Four Peak Magical Beast, especially with partial Giant Dragon blood, was essentially beyond his capabilities.
"Michael, how are you doing?"
Count Engel glanced towards Michael, who was also opening his eyes, and asked.
"About fifty percent recovered; even with another High-Level Recovery Potion, full recovery is impossible."
Michael chuckled bitterly, although he was only an Earth Knight, his injuries were no less severe than Count Engel’s, even a High-Level Recovery Potion couldn’t fully restore him.
Upon hearing Michael’s remarks, Count Engel shook his head.
With a slight sigh.
Being able to severely wound that Tier Four Peak beast with Giant Dragon lineage was partly due to his reckless abandon and partly due to Michael’s substantial support.
Now that neither of them was fully recovered, having to engage in battle again was foreseeable.
Even if that Tier Four Peak Magical Beast wasn’t at its full strength either, the physical sturdiness of a beast surpassed humans; even equally injured, their recovery tends to be faster.
Shaking his head, Count Engel slowly stood up, his gaze beginning to inspect the surroundings.
With an inability to engage in combat, he needed to devise other solutions.
Yet, as Count Engel surveyed, his expression suddenly turned into one of astonishment.
"What’s this?"
Murmuring to himself, his gaze landed upon the large tree roots emitting a faint glow.
"Lord Count?"
Upon hearing Count Engel’s words, Michael, somewhat puzzled, instinctively looked at what Count Engel was observing.
"Let’s go, let’s have a look!"
Count Engel’s heart palpitated violently as he quickly spoke, his figure moving towards the center engendered by the intertwined tree roots.
The sudden words and action piqued Michael’s curiosity yet he swiftly followed suit.
The two swept across this direction, reaching the other side of the platform.
Now unveiling another scene.
A densely interwoven mass of immense tree roots, all radiating faint light, and at the confluence of these faint glows appeared an orb of liquid exuding a rich life aura located at the very center of the roots.
"What’s this?"
The same words were uttered, but this time it was Michael.
While Count Engel’s breath grew heavy, his demeanor radiated suppressed excitement.
"Essence of Life!"
Murmuring excitedly, Count Engel’s enthusiasm was shrouded with a hint of disbelief.
It wasn’t a lack of composure but the appearance of such a thing was thrilling him to the core.
A millennia-old tree was sufficient to birth a Divine Wood Fruit.
And to yield Essence of Life, a tree needs at least ten thousand years—and not merely just at the start of those thousand years, realistically an ancient tree needs to be at least fifty thousand years old for this miracle, with most having only a single drop. The sheer volume of the sight before them must have borne witness to countless ages.
Yet, that wasn’t the primary point.
It’s about the function of Essence of Life.
As a product of ten thousand years of an ancient tree, Essence of Life inherently carries enormous Life Source Power, valuable not only for aiding a Knight’s training but also forcibly enhancing Knight Talent, prolonging lifespan—in other words, extending life.
Even a single drop is enough to drive numerous sky powerhouses across the continent to fall into madness, irrespective if they are Holy Sanctuary powerhouses, even some Divine Domain powerhouses might hardly forsake such treasure.
There was actually an entire orb here that seemed to exceed twenty droplets.
"Gulp!"
"I’m not dreaming, am I?"
At this moment, Michael involuntarily swallowed, murmuring to himself; evidently, he also knew what Essence of Life meant.
"It seems this time, we’ve been blessed by the Goddess of Life just like Thor!"
Returning from his shock, Count Engel chuckled softly.
