Chapter 58: The Descent of the Angel, Everyone Cried Out: This One’s in the Bag!
Central Plaza.
Chaos and despair had reached their peak.
The magic circle had collapsed, and the city gates had been breached.
The roars of the Undead drew near from the distance—
Like the toll of the Reaper’s death bell!
Tens of thousands of people crowded together, crying, screaming, shoving, trampling—
It was on the verge of turning into an even greater tragedy.
“Everyone shut the hell up!!!”
A thunderous roar exploded through the air, drowning out every other sound.
It was Daniels!
The usually composed knight now looked like a furious lion in rage.
Beside him, Old John’s face was pale, yet there was a ruthless glint in his eyes.
The two of them stood together on the high platform with Colin and Gregor.
“You all want to run? Where the hell are you gonna run?!”
Daniels’s voice was powerful and resonant. “The city gates are broken! Outside, it’s full of man-eating monsters!”
“You think you can outrun a ghoul with four legs? Don’t be so damn naïve!!!”
The crowd’s chaos faltered under the weight of his roar.
Old John immediately followed up, shouting, “The Undead Legion entering the city isn’t an accident!”
“We planned for this! This is our trap!”
“We’re going to wipe out the Undead Legion!!”
His words hit the crowd like a bomb, leaving everyone stunned.
What?!
Letting the monsters into the city was part of the plan?
And they were going to exterminate the Undead Legion?
Were they insane?!
“Look around you!”
Colin took over to steady the crowd. “Oak Town is not a flock of sheep waiting to be slaughtered! We still have thousands of city guards!”
He pointed toward the edge of the plaza.
There, the guards who had been maintaining order had already formed up swiftly.
Under the officers’ commands, they arranged into solid formations—spears bristling like a forest, shields interlocked, radiating killing intent.
“We also have the noble lords’ and merchants’ personal guards! Add them together, that’s another thousand!”
Colin gestured toward those guards, dressed in different armors but all gripping their blades tightly.
They gathered together as well—fear still lingered on their faces,
But stronger than fear was resolve!
“And finally, our mercenary brothers!”
Colin turned toward the rough men scattered among the crowd.
“You’ve got tens of thousands of blades!”
“Are you telling me you’re afraid of those brainless piles of bones?!”
The mercenaries were instantly roused, their blood boiling.
Weapons were drawn; shouts erupted one after another: “Let’s kill those bastards!”
“Afraid of what?!”
“I became a mercenary long ago knowing this day might come!”
“But—but the magic circle’s gone!” Taylor shouted, his voice breaking with tears.
“Without it, how do we block a Lich’s spells?”
“How do we stop the high-tier undead?!”
“In just a few moments, we’ll all be eaten alive!”
His words hit like a bucket of cold water, dousing much of the hope that had just been ignited.
At this moment, the most crucial magical force—the magicians—were the ones trembling in fear, utterly devoid of morale.
Seeing this, Colin took a deep breath.
His gaze locked in one direction.
Then his voice rose high, filled with boundless devotion and fanaticism.
“Who said we have no backing?!”
“We still have—Lord Angel!!!”
As if in response to Colin’s proclamation—
Boom—!!!
A golden pillar of light, brighter than the sun by a thousandfold,
Erupted from the part of the city overrun by the Undead!
It tore through the dark night sky completely!
A holy, majestic, vast divine aura,
Swept across Oak Town like a tsunami!
The light beam crossed space faster than the eye could follow,
Descending upon the very center of the plaza—on the high platform!
The radiance slowly condensed, converging—
Until finally—
It took the shape of a tall, divine figure that no mortal dared to gaze upon directly!
Four immense golden wings unfurled slowly behind it, each feather seeming to be woven from the purest light itself.
Its face was blurred, hidden within endless divine radiance.
One could only feel the compassion and solemn authority that looked down upon all creation!
An Angel—
Had descended!!!
“……”
The entire plaza—
Tens of thousands froze like statues.
Time itself seemed to stop.
All cries, screams, shoves—disappeared.
Only rough, trembling breaths remained.
Countless eyes widened to their limits, filled with awe, shock, ecstasy,
And utter disbelief!
“A… an Angel… it’s a real Angel…”
Old John’s obese body trembled like a leaf.
With a thud, he dropped to his knees, forehead pressed to the cold ground.
Even the proud noble Gregor was trembling all over.
As he stared at that holy silhouette, his eyes reddened and he murmured, “There’s hope for Florence’s vengeance at last…”
He, too, knelt on one knee, bowing his once-arrogant head.
Taylor and the magicians were scared out of their wits!
They had mocked Colin before—calling him a fraud, claiming angels were the delusions of fools…
Now, a true divine being stood before their eyes!
That pure, infinite light of holiness—
Made the magic within their bodies shiver and submit!
One after another, they dropped to their knees, unable even to lift their heads, wishing they could sink into the ground.
Colin’s face was already soaked with tears.
He prostrated himself completely, shouting with all his might:
“Praise be to You!”
“O Supreme Lord Angel!”
“Your radiance shall drive away all darkness!”
Like a domino effect—
Rustle~~~
The entire plaza fell to their knees in unison!
Guards, mercenaries, merchants, commoners, nobles—
No matter their rank, they all prostrated themselves to the holy light!
A black sea of kneeling figures—an awe-inspiring sight beyond words!
Only the Four-winged Angel’s silhouette floated quietly in midair.
Its wings gently stirred, scattering threads of golden brilliance.
It neither spoke nor moved.
It simply existed—like an eternal star in the heavens.
“Lord Angel… is testing us!”
Colin suddenly raised his head, eyes burning with divine fervor.
“His descent itself is our greatest blessing!”
“But what He wishes to see—”
“Is the courage of Oak Town’s people!”
“The resolve to fight for our survival!!”
Colin stood, his shout resounding like the beating of war drums.
“Raise your weapons!”
“For your homes! For your families! And for yourselves!”
“Under the gaze of Lord Angel—slaughter these vile creatures!!!”
“!!!!!”
“Kill!!!”
“For Oak Town!!”
“Lord Angel is watching us! Let’s butcher them all!!!”
“With Lord Angel here, this fight’s in the bag!!!!”
The shattered morale burst forth like a volcano!
Tens of thousands roared together, their voices shaking the heavens!
Fear was completely burned away—replaced by fanatical faith and the will to live!
The guards gripped their spears tighter, mercenaries raised their axes high.
Even some brave townsfolk picked up sticks and stones from the ground!
The whole of Oak Town—
Had become a lion roused from its slumber, baring its sharp fangs!
……
Floating quietly in the air, Lynn was speechless.
On the outside, he looked calm as an old dog.
But inside—he was freaking out!
