Devil Equinox

Chapter 91 - 91: PROGRESS (PART B)

Those events made me question who I am and what I am truly capable of. From another universe came myself – a different version of myself – who had different powers to mine and as powerful as my current power, a small amount of power I use. He didn't much time to tell me everything but still told me what was needed.

It was time to confront a few people about this and still deal wit h the mission. I had no idea where to start first.

"I may have a solution Ravedos," Aro suggested. Yes, the angel in my mind... the one I thought was an angel in my head said and to may dismay I asked her if it were true and were they really the ones who made me.

"Ravedos, you do know your thoughts can be heard by us?" she asked.

Those words left me shocked and befuddled. "For how long?" I asked her, well my Body asked.

Silence. They both looked ashamed of what they were going to say. Then Fragius sighed. "From your very birth," he spoke, "But you were just like the others like you in the other universes. That day of betrayal and death was the last of your existence, but we fixed you, we remade you in another dimension – this earth – away from the life you lived."

"Why? I didn't need this!"

Then my hand was grabbed by a small, soft hand that was delicate with it's touch and deliberate in the grasp. I looked down at the and my eyes traveled along their arm until I locked on to their gaze. Cory held my hand worried and wary expecting the worst out of me. He eyes glimmered in the light from the ceiling light that Hank had to re-fixture.

Her hand slowly pulled back from mine as she had caught my attention. My thoughts are fixed on to a danger that will happen in future while I had a mission to deal with. Laura walked by and set her things down on the coffee table.

We were in the living room at that time just after my walk.

These two were on edge while I had gone out because a few unexpected guests came by and almost got away with Cory. However, Laura had managed to take one of two men down, knocking them out cold, and the other injured.

That made me curious, where we being tracked, did they find out where we were, did they follow us or someone had told them our location? Laura didn't seem to have the heart to do such and Cory had not have a way of telling anyone, and Hank he doesn't to be involved in any of this, thus why he leaves me majority of the time to carry out the mission I had to take on.

It certainly had gotten bigger than I had imagined.

Right then I had to focus only on the mission and not anything else. My state of mind may blow things over and have the only people I was with to die.

"What are those?" I asked Laura.

"A few files on you, weapon schematics and a detailed guide on how to slow you down, and my laptop." Laura answered briefly.

Files on me? That had intrigued me, and she had noticed. "Sorry to burst your bubble, but these are all based on you being human and some weapons they didn't to send me schematics for," Laura told me.

"What was their plan with all this information? Catch me and call it a day?"

"No, it was kept a need-to-know basis. I didn't get anything at any given time. They would tell at the appointed time of their schedule."

Cory wanted to have her word in the mix but Laura stopped her from talking. Her phone rang and she answered the call. She left the room to talk to the phone outside.

I got up to look at the files and took one from the table. Reading through the inaccurate slop, I realized that these people were not professional in fact they… they didn't know a thing about me.

These files are certified by the high rank government officials, not the president. And the only officials who would have files on soldiers is high rank military officers like General Mynde. I read more from the file I had in my hand and everything was added in. 'Captain is strategic and reactive to surroundings, making him quite adaptive,' one line read. This one was true but the others besides that didn't make sense. Impulsive, irresponsible, unreliable and underachieving were also making it seem like I am not formidable but still a danger.

'Captain is not a weapon but a tool to use. However, he cannot be mended by anyone." The last line of the file read. It had a rather old picture of me and some parts were redacted for one reason or the other.

By the time I read through that file Laura rushed back in. "I have to go," she spoke. "I have to meet with the others they have something to talk about,"

She rushed over to my room to change her outfit. Cory peered into the room and and looked back at me. "What does that mean for us?" she asked me. "While Laura is gone what are we going to do?"

"Wait," I responded.

Cory looked puzzled and chose not to ask any more questions.

A few minutes passed and Laura walked out of the room in a rush. "You should carry on without me even when I don't come back," she said and rushed through the door.

The door was slammed behind her and the thud startled Cory. I grabbed another file of the table after throwing the one.

The contents of that one were certainly different the what perpetuated was inaccuracy. Who ever wrote this one down were not giving the right information. It isn't necessary to tell you what this one also had but know that someone had a hand in making those inaccuracies.

It was intentionally done.

Whoever wrote those knew about this possible event taking place and they didn't want the government to take advantage of the info or they wanted them to underestimate me.

Mynde might have his reasons but I couldn't have a chance to ask him about it because Cory asked me, why I cared. I was lost for words and told her the most generic thing I could have said, "You don't deserve to be treated so ill by that bitch," and she appreciated the words.

Now we had nothing else to talk about, she looked around the apartment while I read through the files. After reading through the files I grabbed the schematics and saw diagrams of a bomb that could cause a distraction and the blast would be strong enough to destroy a room. And a few more explosives were on it with their designs and materials needed. These were not small make shift bombs, these were military grade.

Shit! To think they wanted to make things discrete.

As I flipped the page over a piece of paper fell out of the old brown folder and I picked it up. It was a map of a predetermined route I took. They planned my route? It showed the direction I would have gone from the research facility and were I was supposed to go, all in detail.

That agent saw me and stuck to the plan, direct me to the bomb. What they didn't take account for was who picked me up. The demons knew the plan and intercepted exactly were I was supposed to be, and then would kill me afterward.

I was befuddled. In my left hand was the file that I laid down on the table and held the paper with both arms. I flipped it over and something was written in red, 'You were supposed to die with him and the fucking clone!' it read.

Someone didn't expect Laura's actions and they were furious. "Here take a look," I said handing over the paper to Cory. She was confused at what she was looking at and flipped the paper and was shocked by what she read.

"W-w-what does this mean?" she asked scared.

"It means whoever had her on this mission wanted to make sure she and I including you were dealt with," I told her.

"What is the map for?"

"Our route to the bomb. It was predetermined to lead us to a bomb, and not her exfil. They wanted her dead, you dead and me dead, so that Dhalia continues with her project with no more interruptions."

"But what does that have to do with message on the back?"

"Laura defied the orders 'cause she knew if she continued with them she was going to do, she didn't want that. So, when we left the building she shot me in the head, turning the attention of those who were waiting toward me and letting you two leave. But, that did not go well with the whoever sent her out her in the first place."

I paused for a moment, placing my index finger between my nose and my upper lip, my thumb resting under my chin.

'She shot me with reason but how did she know about the path? Was she told before hand or did she have a hunch?' I thought. This was deeper than I thought, she really cared for Cory and I.

But then a power I sensed seemed to be moving closer to us from below. My expression became intense and I draw out my gun. Cory became concerned and I told her to stay still and quiet. Whatever had that power was moving fast, going from directly below us to the other side of the building. It was searching for something. Us.

I looked around the apartment and told Cory to move nearer, I tipped the coffee table on its side and moved the sofa in front of it. I told her to hide behind it while I made my way to the kitchen.

The power I felt moved up to the floor we were on and was heading In our direction, I stood by the edge of the wall and I waited. It stopped before the door moments later and a high-pitched noise made. The door that was in front of whatever was outside glowed before it burnt away.

A figure walked slowly into the apartment and seemed unaware of our presence. The figure was lanky – awfully malnourished – and they were quiet, moving abnormally, their posture crooked and their legs were bent the wrong way. Skin was green and their head had missing patches of hair on it. Look a zombie from cheap horror films, but the weapon it had was new. It vaporized a wooden door and it an unusual noise.

It slowly walked toward the living room. I took advantage of its ignorance and crept up behind it. I quickly pressed my pistol behind one knee and blew the knee cap off. I didn't want to make too much noise though.

The figure collapsed after losing a knee and landed face first on to the floor. I hastily moved to pin its head on the floor with my pistol and blew its brains out. The pooled with small chunks of brain matter and I told Cory it was safe to came out. She stood up and wasn't fazed by the sight matter of fact she said, "She sent this piece of shit after us. She is desperate."

Then I got up from my knees and asked what that thing was and she told me it was a disposable abomination that Dhalia made for eradication tasks, something difficult to kill but formidable. I looked back at it and it wasn't disappearing like the other creatures I had killed before. "Why is the body still there?" I asked. "It should be turning to dust by now. Doesn't it have any of my DNA?"

She sighed heavily. "It does, but it didn't agree with theirs."

Agree with theirs? My DNA has to agree to make Dhalia's 'wonderful' creations?

I gave her a stern look while I was a bit confused with the whole thing. "She hasn't found out why it happens," she said and shrugged as she spoke. She saw that I didn't understand what she meant.

Though it was weak, I highly doubted that Portford would send something that weak. Yet, something felt wrong, the power was still there.

The power I felt early still lingered in the air. Becoming denser by the minute. I still was speaking to her about the situation then I felt a sharp pain in my back and then a spike pierced through my body. The pain surged through me quickly and Cory shouted, "Your DNA agreed with it,"

I was then flung through the open and away from the apartment complex.

Shortly afterward I came after me having left Cory alone and alive. I just flew in the air and crashed through several fucking buildings and now I have an undead fucking beast after my ass. Fuck that, and fuck it!
