A faint, floral scent drifted to his nose. How could a girl’s presence be so overwhelming?

Teasing her was one thing, but if he ever truly entertained inappropriate thoughts about a girl this age, he’d be crossing a real line.
Lin Wei reached out and gently pressed a finger to her forehead, guiding her back to her seat.

“Of course, that little coup was cut short by Commander Meilin’s intervention. But the nobles didn’t back down; instead, they struck a new deal with the Pope: if the church fails to deliver the supplies on time, all responsibility falls on them.”
“With so many coincidences stacking up, the Pope suspects there may be a traitor among the nobles, colluding with the demons. To protect the Pope’s reputation and root out the traitor, we can’t afford any mishaps with the next shipment.”
“As for you, Saintess, your task is to help me track down the traitor… I heard you’re from a duke’s family in the imperial capital, right?”
He vaguely remembered Veya mentioning it one night while they were in bed.
Lin Wei glanced at her expectantly, and the adorable Saintess nodded immediately.
“So, Saintess, do you have any personal guards from your family?”

Hunting down a traitor among the nobles, leading the charge to bring them to justice when they were cornered—the thought alone was electrifying! There was no way she’d be able to sleep tonight.
“Forget about sleeping here. Go home, and stay out of trouble for now.”
Who knew when Veya might pop in unexpectedly? If she ever walked in on a scene like this, I’d be a dead man on the spot.

But just then—
A knock sounded at the door.
