Chapter 204: A savior
Ray had not seen so many monsters in one place; on their path to there, only a handful of monsters were going toward the city, but around the city was a different story. Their army couldn’t fight against that enormous number, and their immortals were busy on their own.
At first Ray wanted to also go for the Mantis king, but if he didn’t do something, half of the army of the city would be dead.
Giving out the structures of his plan, he knew they would follow him; they had no chance after all.
"Time to test my powers..." Landing on the tip of the hill, ants as beasts with seven legs rushed toward him; the other species just ignored him to continue their path to the city.
"Unlimited blood dance." Orcus hit the ground with an impact; what followed was red slash devouring the world around him. The creatures didn’t have the time to react before being cut in hundreds of pieces.
From an outsider perspective, the whole hill was taken over by a blood sphere for five seconds; when the sphere faded away, nothing survived on the hill, with severed limbs and corpses painting the ground with their blood.
"What is that weapon?" Emi zoomed in on the bony scythe, but she had never seen it before. "This is our opportunity; take the higher ground of the hill."
Her swords acted on their own, while she led the group to invade the lines of the enemy.
A pillar of blood rose from the hill; from the blood machine, guns emerged, tens of moving machine guns, all having the ability to move through the pillar to find their target.
Blood bullets rained on the heads of the ants; unlike their skin and shell, their joints were very vulnerable to any attack.
Monsters from all sides came to the same conclusion at once: if they wanted to survive, they too had to kill the man and humans on the hill.
Ray’s smile grew; all of them were free crystals for him, and now that they focused his attacks on him, he could have killed as many as he wanted.
On the battlefield to the north, Scarlet was already winning, with the mantis king losing half of its arms. "I can’t fall behind her..."
"Blood angel..." A woman flying on a sword reached his side first. "I will defend the front; you take care of the back."
Ray looked at her with an emotionless face and flew to the center of the seven-legged beasts; they were easier to kill with so many ways to slow them down.
His soul came forth, taking the form of armor around his body, with four hands growing out of his waist.
His scythe and claws left blood and flesh behind as Ray passed the enemies like they were nothing, with his killing intent rising with each kill. All of them were weak; he needed something more.
His roar filled the battlefield; the monsters answered with voices of their own. At once the flow of the fight changed; all of them changed their target.
"Is he even human?" Emi asked herself while watching the terrifying slaughter that was going on in front of her eyes; she felt bad for the monsters; they were torn apart, at times just crushed by his fists.
The frequency of attacks on all sides had decreased tremendously, with each monster that fell bt Ray’s hand, more wanted revenge for their kind.
In ten minutes, only five monsters were climbing the hill to reach them, while the rest were circling around Blood Angel. "You guys get back to the city; I’ll handle the rest." No one had enough energy to go against her orders; one by one, they teleported inside the city.
Ray didn’t even care to avoid the attacks; any harm would have been healed in a second. His claws were getting sharper by each kill, and the thoughts of his soul and blood organs were getting more used to hunting that kind of monster.
And above all, he had another charge of Orcus still if he wanted to use it. He decided to hide the fact for now; he didn’t trust Scarlet in the slightest.
Meanwhile, Scarlet had not used her magic yet, but the mantis king was already dead. Her moonblade was covered in green blood, while the rest of the monsters decided to run away from her. "It was just a baby; what a letdown."
Her attention returned to the shield; all the monsters were concentrating only on one place. "His growth is scary..."
Ray’s body danced between the aliens; before they could reach him, they were dead. Throwing Orcus like a whiplash, he opened another line of enemies, but there was no end to them.
Five tentacles grew from his waist; each had the purpose of blocking the path of those who tried to run away from him. After killing so many, even the mindless beasts were fearing him.
He no longer represented any humanity in his figure; all of his organs were trained to solely kill.
Suddenly every living being around him crumbled on its own; in a twisted way, their mass got reduced to the size of a small ball, with no life remaining in them.
Ray looked at the sky with an angry face; those monsters were free crystals for him. "I thought we were going to fight separately."
Scarlet shrugged. "I was bored, and you have already got your share."
The small number that had remained finally chose their lives over revenge, escaping from the area with full speed.
"Why are two here?" Emi came flying on a sword.
Before Scarlet could say anything stupid, Ray talked. "We are here for our own interests that have nothing to do with your city, but fortunately for you, our goals align for now."
Emi’s tail trembled behind her; she had no choice but to trust the two for now. "This wave is over; you can come to the city to regain your strength."
With an emotionless face, Ray said, "I’m not stupid enough to stay and risk my life."
Scarlet giggled. "Me either."
The fox girl sighed; dealing with those two was going to give her a headache.
"Name your price."
"A golden seed." Scarlet’s smile grew. "I will fight until all the anomalies are dead, in exchange for a simple golden seed."
"What is that?" Ray had never heard of such an item.
"I chose that so you can’t choose that!" Scarlet pouted her cheeks like a child.
"Well, I want a tower with everything and all made just for me near entrance 9." Ray thought for a second before continuing: "And I want it to be a pocket one."
The leaders of the city were listening to their demands; both wanted very valuable resources. Pocket building needed very rare magical materials that were rich in magic so they could be absorbed in one’s system, and golden seeds were only available through having a bond with heavens.
Emi said with a disgusted tone, "Fine." They were using their desperation for their own benefits; how could they be so low? At least on the surface most people acted based on their glory and morality, yet those two couldn’t care less about the image that others had about them.
Scarlet laughed, "The first anomaly will reach here in two days, but my squad needs three days, so just survive until I return." Waving her hand, she teleported back to their headquarters.
Emy was frozen on the spot. A day against a few anomalies was possible to hold on to, and there were too many unknown factors about their behavior at that point in time.
"Can I buy some fast food in your city?"
"What?" She looked at the bloody figure in front of her; he said the words like they were in a casual conversation and not facing an existential threat.
Ray’s only food for the past three months was monster meat; he would kill for a few good meals.
"I want some fast food..." Ray thought for a few minutes, "And some hot water."
"I invited you to come to the city!"
Ray shook his head. "My plan was to use Scarlet as a shield if anything went wrong; now I’d rather keep my distance from all of you. You can find me near the city; just tell Hestia, she’s good at finding me."
"Why is he like this?" Emi couldn’t find the correct response in her head; the blood angel was too straightforward and too canny at the same time.
After a pause, Emi said, "Whatever you want. I will give you what you want in a day or less." She called and massaged someone through the device on her watch. "And someone will bring the foods you wanted here in a few minutes."
Ray wondered what kind of food would have been ready in minutes. Watching the girl take her leave, Ray smiled at the familiar eyes that looked at him from inside the city. "How did Hestia end up in the city?"
