Chapter 226: Raikou’s Rage
"What do you want, Raikou?"
Aizen asked with an unfriendly tone.
"Is it true? Are you really intending to make this piece of shit into the family head?!"
Raikou asked angrily.
"...It doesn’t concern you."
Aizen said coldly.
"Of course it does! I should be the head of the family. I am older than he is, and I am also interested in becoming one!"
Raikou screamed.
In other words, since Raizen wasn’t interested in becoming one, the position should naturally fell on his lap.
"We don’t decide the head of the family based on birth order. We base it on merit alone. Just like my father did.
"I was the third son of my father, but I was chosen instead of my brothers because of merit!"
Aizen shouted.
"It’s not fair!"
Raikou screamed from the top of his lungs that his voice was threatening to crack.
"Silence! What fairness? This is the future of the Fang Family we’re talking about, and the position should go to the one that shows the most potential!"
Aizen screamed angrily.
"...And he shows the most potential? This... weakling?"
Raikou looked at Raon with disgust, and he then picked up the fireplace poker. It was a long metal rod with a hooked end.
The hooked end was currently warm, as it was lying next to the crackling fireplace, as Aizen liked to keep it lit regardless of the season.
"Shall we fight for it then?"
Raikou put the fireplace poker close to Fang Raon’s throat, and he didn’t back away in fear, but instead just looked into Raikou’s eyes.
"I didn’t choose Raon because of his physical strength. There are other strengths than physical ones, and unfortunately, you seem to be lacking the other ones!"
Aizen spat coldly.
"You must be joking, Father. You’ve always been saying that the head of the family needs to have strength.
"That’s why you trained us in the sword since we were very young. Those bloody and long training sessions weren’t fun!"
Raikou spat out.
"You’ve been trained by the best swordmasters that Fang Family has to offer. Raon was training alone in the woods while being blind.
"It’s obvious that you would’ve progressed faster, but that can change. Without your level difference and Five Pillars of Power... Can you beat him even?"
Aizen asked.
"Hahahaha!"
Raikou laughed angrily, and then out of nowhere, he swung the hooked rod at Fang Raon, who was caught off guard but managed to dodge at the last second.
The burning rod whizzed past his face.
"...Huff."
Fang Raon sweated slightly.
’If that attack had landed, I would’ve been scarred badly.’
He thought to himself with a dark look.
"I’ve made my decision already, Raikou. He’ll be the head of the family. There is nothing you can do that’ll change my opinion!"
Aizen said.
"...We’ll see about that."
Raikou whispered coldly, and he then tossed the fireplace poker inside the fireplace and walked out of the study room.
"That sounded ominous. Do you think he’ll try to attack me?"
Fang Raon asked.
"...Well, what do you think?"
Aizen interlocked his fingers and asked.
It seemed like Aizen was trying to test the logical skills of Fang Raon, and it was indeed what was happening.
There was a reason why he chose Raon instead of Raikou.
"I am sure he is currently thinking about killing me. And I am also sure that he is thinking that if he kills me, you would be hiding what happened from the authorities."
Fang Raon said.
"..."
Aizen narrowed his eyes, but he then nodded as if he were saying, "Go on."
"Then, he thinks about the aftermath. He knows that he would make you angry, but he doesn’t care. You have always said that the head of the family needs to be ruthless, so he is thinking that you might be fine with it."
Fang Raon continued.
"...Well, he would be wrong to think that. I wouldn’t be fine with it."
Aizen said.
"I know my brother, and I am just saying what he is probably thinking about."
Fang Raon said.
"I know. Go on. Keep going."
Aizen waved his hand.
"He knows that Anna will be really angry at him. So angry that she might try to kill him in return. Thus, if he killed me, he would also have to kill her to just make sure.
"But...
"If he does both of those, Raizen won’t stay idle. He will be worried about his own life. I mean, Raikou has already killed two of his siblings.
"Might as well kill the third one too, right?
"Raikou is scared of what Raizen will do next. And because of that, he drops any and all ideas of killing me, because he is too afraid to go against Raizen.
"Raizen’s shadow is just too big for Raikou to step out of it."
Fang Raon smiled.
"Hah."
Aizen laughed in return, and he nodded as he agreed with Fang Raon’s thought process completely.
"Then, what do you think he’ll do?"
Aizen asked and covered his right fist with his left hand and leaned closer, as he was quite curious.
"He’ll try to make himself look better in your eyes. And at the same time, he will try to make me look worse."
Fang Raon said.
"How will he do that?"
Aizen asked.
"I think he’ll take over Anna’s operations on the 27th floor and try to increase the profits to show that he is better than Anna, for starters."
Fang Raon said.
"But he won’t succeed. Anna’s operations are loansharking, and she is also the owner of several buildings that she rents out to small player-owned businesses."
Aizen said.
"I think he will increase the interest rate of Anna’s loan-sharking business, and he will also increase the rent. By a lot. So do the profits seem greater."
Fang Raon said.
"That would be an idiotic move. He risks losing the business altogether. Anna’s business has worked so far because she has been fair, and because of her reputation, no one has tried to fuck with her."
Aizen said with a frown.
"I am pretty much just guessing, but I think he will try to do that. I don’t know how he will try to make me look bad, but it’s probably something equally as stupid as that."
Fang Raon said.
"...I’ll keep a close eye on that, and if I see him doing that, I’ll shut it down right away. I have a couple spies within Raikou’s ranks, after all. I need to know everything my children are planning, after all.
"There is something else I need to talk to you about."
Aizen said.
Fang Raon nodded, wondering what it was all about, but then, the door to the study room once again opened.
"Master Aizen, the guests have arrived."
The head butler, Sebastian, said with his usual deep tone, and then, when he saw Fang Raon, he smiled warmly.
"...Sebastian."
Fang Raon smiled.
While he was training alone in the woods, Sebastian came every now and then to act as a training partner for him.
And they bonded with their equal dislike towards Raikou.
