Chapter 588: No more Immortality
"Ahhh!"
A terrifying scream suddenly echoed through the dark corridor.
The members of the Slave Trade Guild thought they were merely facing the undead Storm Tyrant and the undead Garron.
But they were wrong.
Terribly wrong.
The darkness behind them suddenly moved. A figure emerged from the shadows so silently that none of them noticed its arrival.
The undead Kaien.
An assassin undead.
His entire body was draped in black robes, blending perfectly into the surrounding darkness, while the pair of daggers in his hands remained almost completely invisible.
The warrior only realized something was wrong when a cold sensation passed across his back.
Slash!
The undead Kaien’s blade cut through the warrior’s back and blood exploded into the air.
The blade entered from beneath his shoulder and tore diagonally across his back, ripping through flesh, and muscle in one brutal motion before emerging near his waist.
"AHHHHH!"
A soul rending steam escapes from the warrior’s lips. His body violently jerked forward as blood sprayed across the corridor and splattered against the nearby wall.
The wound was deep enough to expose torn flesh beneath the shattered armor.
His hand desperately reached toward his back, but the moment his fingers touched the wound, another wave of pain coursed through his body.
"What was that?!"
"Where did he come from?!"
The other members of the Slave Trade Guild immediately turned around, trying to find the attacker but their shock, they found nothing.
It was gone.
The injured warrior gritted his teeth and forced himself to turn around, raising his weapon as he desperately searched through the darkness.
He swung his weapon toward the empty space behind him in desperation. The thought of being hunted down without knowing where almost drove him crazy.
His breathing became faster.
His eyes moved from one shadow to another, desperately trying to determine which one concealed the undead.
More importantly, they had no idea where the undead had gone.
"Stay together!" One of the assassins shouted.
The remaining members immediately moved closer to each other. Their backs almost touched as they carefully watched their surroundings.
The atmosphere had changed completely. They were no longer fighting two undead but three.
And the last one was an undead assassin.
With the introduction of the assassin undead, the members of the Slave Trade Guild were filled with uneasiness.
Unfortunately, the undead Garron and the undead Storm Tyrant did not give them a moment to think.
The undead Storm Tyrant charged forward and its enormous hammer rose above his head. At the same time, the undead Garron lunged forward with his massive butcher knife.
Whoosh!
The enormous blade tore through the air.
"Dodge!"
One of the warriors shouted.
The group scattered and the hammer crashed into the ground.
Boom!
The stone floor shattered beneath the impact, sending fragments flying in every direction. Immediately, the undead Garron immediately followed.
His butcher knife swept horizontally through the space where one of the warriors had been standing.
The warrior ducked beneath the blade. At that same moment, one of the Slave Trade Guild assassins saw an opening.
The undead Garron had exposed his back.
"This is my chance!"
The assassin’s eyes flashed and his body blurred. He silently moved behind Garron, his dagger already raised toward the undead’s neck.
But before he could strike, a dark shadow appeared behind him.
The assassin’s eyes widened and he quickly tried to turn.
To defend.
Unfortunately, it was too late.
Slash!
The blade passed cleanly across his neck and his head separated from his body with terrifying precision.
Thud!
The severed head struck the ground in a wet sickening thud and rolled several times before stopping.
The remaining members of the Slave Trade Guild stared at it and immediately, their face drained of colour.
The other assassin stood frozen, his fingers trembling around his weapon. They had just watched one of their strongest assassins die without even being able to fight back.
The undead Kaien had counter-assassinated him.
Suddenly, the dead assassin’s mouth opened and closed as though he was trying to breathe.
Then his head began moving across the ground.
Slowly at first.
Then faster.
It crawled toward its body.
But before the severed head could reach its body, a terrifying flame suddenly appeared above it.
Whoosh!
The flame landed on the severed head and the moment it touched the flesh, it spread violently.
"Ah—!"
The head screamed as the flame swallowed it completely. The flesh burned away within seconds until nothing remained.
The four remaining members of the Slave Trade Guild stared at Thoren in horror.
Their eyes trembled and their faces lost all color.
’How could this be?’
’We’re immortal! We can’t die...’
’What kind of flame is that?’
’How can it destroy our resurrection?!’
Various thoughts ran through their minds. Their immortality had always been their greatest advantage.
But now, in front of their eyes, one of them had truly died with no resurrection in sight. Before the four members could process what had just happened, the undead pounced on them.
Boom!
The undead Storm Tyrant swung his massive hammer and one of the warriors hurriedly raised his weapon to block.
Bang!
The impact forced him onto one knee while his arms trembled violently. The terrifying attack had shattered his weapon into pieces.
"Urgh!" He groaned and gritted his teeth.
Without wasting a second, the undead Storm Tyrant raised his hammer again.
Seeing this, the warrior widened his eyes.
"Noooooooo" He screamed as he tried to escape.
Unfortunately, it was too late.
Boom!
The hammer slammed brutally into his head. Blood and fragments of bone exploded across the corridor.
His body collapsed instantly.
Whoosh!
And immediately, the terrifying flame descended from above and wrapped around his corpse. Quickly, the remaining flesh began burning away.
Within moments, the entire body was consumed by the flame, leaving nothing behind. Not even a trace.
And with that, there were only three Slave Trade Guild member left.
Watching the death of two of their commrade, the remaining members of the Slave Trade Guild were no longer thinking about killing Thoren.
They were thinking about survival as fear and panic gripped their minds like a vice. The two assassins moved backward while the final warrior desperately searched for an opening.
Unfortunately, there was none.
The corridor was too narrow.
The undead Storm Tyrant blocked one direction while the undead Garron controlled another. And somewhere in the darkness, the undead Kaien was waiting.
One of the warriors looked toward Thoren. Since the start of the battle, he had not taken a single step or uttered any word. His expression remained indifferent.
Instantly, the warrior’s heart sank.
’This has gone beyond us. We need to retreat.’
Slowly, he stepped backward.
One step.
Then another.
He had only taken two steps back when all the hair on his body stood on end and his pupils contracted.
A cold sensation spread from the back of his neck through his entire body.
Something was behind him and he wanted to turn but his body refused to move.
"Nooooo!" He screamed in his mind.
The undead Kaien stood silently in the darkness, his body almost completely blending into the surrounding shadows.
Only his eyes were visible.
Two eerily hollow sockets burned with frightening soul fire.
Slash!
The blade passed through the warrior’s throat and his body collapsed without another sound. The remaining two members of the Slave Trade Guild finally broke.
They turned and ran.
But the undead Garron was already moving.
