Chapter 303: The Trap That Was Never a Trap
Suddenly, a single footstep echoed from within the blazing flames. The sound was calm. Steady. Yet the moment it rang out, countless hearts skipped violently.
The Guild Captain’s face stiffened instantly while the Jackal Chief’s pupils contracted sharply.
Thud!
Another footstep followed.
Slowly, the flames began to part from the center as though pushed away by an invisible force. Then a figure walked out from the inferno.
Silver hair danced beneath the scorching heat while deep blue eyes glowed coldly within the sea of flames.
Thoren walked out calmly without the slightest trace of panic on his face. Around him stood five undead shield soldiers with their massive shields raised firmly.
The shields glistened beneath the raging flames as if the attacks had never touched them. Additionally, not a single arrow managed to pierce through their defenses.
Not a single spell bypassed the shields.
"T This..." The Guild Captain’s lips trembled slightly. Disbelief flooded his face completely. Even the people hiding on the distant rooftops could not help but suck in cold breaths.
"How could he still be alive?"
"That attack should have killed anyone!"
"T This... he is a monster..."
The Jackal Beastmen watching from the distance felt profound chills spreading through their bodies. Their previous confidence had vanished completely.
What remained now was pure fear.
Primal terror.
Some averted their gazes as if they were too terrified to look directly at the silver haired human. Their bodies trembled uncontrollably.
The Jackal Chief felt something he had not experienced for a very long time.
Death.
Even though Thoren had yet to attack him personally, merely looking into those deep blue eyes allowed him to see nothing but the embodiment of death itself.
Just then, Thoren slowly raised his head. His cold gaze swept across the rooftops before stopping directly on the Guild Captain and the Jackal Chief.
Instantly, the surrounding atmosphere became unbearably heavy. The pressure crushing down on the battlefield intensified drastically.
It felt as though death itself had fixed its eyes upon them. The Guild Captain’s throat became dry. For the first time since the battle began, genuine fear appeared inside his eyes.
He finally understood something horrifying. The Grim Reaper had never fought seriously from the very beginning. It was as if he had been baiting them into revealing every hidden card.
It was as though he had controlled the entire battlefield from the start.
Calculated slaughter.
Below the rooftops, the undead servants continued their massacre mercilessly. Severed limbs flew through the streets while miserable screams echoed endlessly. Blood splashed across broken walls and shattered windows.
However, Thoren ignored all of it. His attention remained locked onto the two figures standing in the distance.
The true targets of his return.
"It is time to end this." He muttered coldly within his mind.
At that exact moment, he issued a mental command.
Boom!
Suddenly, the ground beneath the building supporting the Jackal Chief and the Guild Captain exploded violently. The entire structure collapsed instantly into countless fragments of rubble and dust.
"W-What?"
The two barely reacted before they felt the surrounding air distort violently. Then a massive tail descended from above with overwhelming force.
The attack arrived too quickly.
The Jackal Chief and the Guild Captain widened their eyes in disbelief. Neither of them understood how such a gigantic creature had managed to approach beneath them unnoticed.
However, there was no time left for unnecessary thoughts.
Facing the terrifying tail strike crashing toward them, both unleashed their strongest defensive attacks simultaneously.
The Jackal Chief roared ferociously while throwing three devastating punches in rapid succession. His fists tore through the air violently, producing sonic booms powerful enough to shake nearby structures.
Beside him, the Guild Captain unsheathed his enormous broadsword and swung downward fiercely.
The sword cleaved through the air at blinding speed as if attempting to split the desert itself apart.
But then.
Boom!
Ahhh!
A soul rending scream erupted throughout the town as both figures were blasted away violently. Their bodies smashed through multiple buildings nonstop before finally disappearing into the distance beneath collapsing debris.
Silence descended momentarily.
Then the true nightmare revealed itself.
From beneath the shattered streets, a colossal creature slowly rose into view.
The undead Dust Naga towered above every surrounding building. Its enormous body blocked the moonlight while its grotesque eyeless face and rows of jagged serrated teeth sent terror crashing into everyone’s hearts.
Its undead scales glistened beneath the moonlight like cursed obsidian drenched in blood. Thick streams of dark energy leaked continuously from the gaps between its shattered scales.
The moment the creature fully revealed itself, the entire town fell into chaos.
Many people collapsed directly onto the ground. Others screamed while desperately trying to flee.
They had believed the previous massacre was already horrifying enough.
But now.
Looking at the monstrous undead creature towering above the battlefield, everyone realized the earlier slaughter had merely been child’s play.
This was true horror.
A nightmare capable of destroying the entire Scorched Outskirts.
Even the proud and arrogant Jackal Beastmen lowered their heads instinctively. None dared to stare directly at the undead Dust Naga for too long.
Fear consumed them completely.
Whoosh!
Suddenly, the undead Dust Naga shot forward at blinding speed. Despite its massive size, its movement remained unbelievably swift. The streets cracked apart beneath its enormous weight while entire structures collapsed from the pressure alone.
"It is over..."
"I need to escape immediately..."
"I cannot stay here anymore..."
The remaining ranged members of the Slave Trade Guild hiding across the rooftops trembled violently. Every single one of them had already abandoned thoughts of victory.
With such a terrifying creature present, the battle had already ended.
Remaining behind would only guarantee death.
The battlefield had transformed completely into hell itself.
A living hell.
Swiss! Swiss!
Ahhh! Ahhh! Ahhh!
However, before the fleeing guild members could even turn around properly, death descended upon them.
Bloody red streaks flashed across the rooftops at unbelievable speed.
The undead Sanguine Vulture Spawns had begun hunting.
Bodies collapsed one after another. Heads rolled across rooftops while fountains of blood sprayed high into the air. Some corpses tumbled directly from the rooftops before crashing violently onto the streets below.
The screams continued endlessly.
No mercy existed.
No escape remained.
