Gu Shan responded.

At least there aren't any Demon Beasts here—the outside is completely packed with them. Trying to leave would be a death sentence.

Lin Chang'sheng didn't dwell on it any further and kept walking toward the passage ahead.

"There's an Array up ahead—maybe that's the way out!"

Lin Chang'sheng scanned ahead with his Divine Sense and sensed a massive space. Within that space, there was an Array. Maybe this Array was the exit from this place.

When Lin Chang'sheng and Gu Shan reached the stone chamber ahead,

they found that this place's Array was very similar to the ones outside. There were three enormous stone platforms around the chamber.

Unfortunately, no powerful beings guarded the stone platforms; and in the center of the Array, there was a woman bound by iron chains.

Not a single thing covered the woman's body, but her entire form was shrouded in frost.

The woman seemed to realize Lin Chang'sheng and the others had arrived, and slowly raised her head.

When she saw Lin Chang'sheng and Gu Shan, the woman was clearly surprised.

"You… you're of the Human Race?"

The woman's eyes widened—as if a thin thread of hope pierced through her look of despair.

But then she bitterly shook her head, "I can't believe I still dared hope at all? Xiaoshuang, no matter how you try to deceive me, I won't tell you where Father left the treasured artifact. Just give it up!"

Her words left Lin Chang'sheng and Gu Shan completely confused. She definitely looked like someone from the Frost Race, but why was she bound here?

"You might be mistaken. We are indeed from the Human Race. We came here to fix a crack in the Array. The place is surrounded by the Frost Race, so we accidentally wound up here!"

Lin Chang'sheng explained.

Yet the woman still didn't believe them.

Seeing no other way, Lin Chang'sheng simply sliced open his own finger and held forth a drop of bright red blood.

The sight finally convinced the chained woman.

The Frost Race possessed no such scarlet blood in their bodies.

"You really are of the Human Race? Excellent! It's not too late to stop Xiaoshuang. If she gets her hands on the Frost Staff, there will be a great catastrophe in the Immortal Realm!"

The woman exclaimed anxiously.

Back then, their Frost Race had only been suppressed by the Human Race because Xiaoshuang couldn't find the Frost Staff.

It's said the Frost Staff was forged from the leg bone of a Frost Giant Dragon—an artifact containing unfathomable Power of Cold Ice that could freeze everything in the world.

"Don't worry—the crack in the Array was just repaired. There's no way they can escape now."

Lin Chang'sheng tried to ease her worries.

It seemed that not every Demon Beast in the Frost Race was fond of war.

"It's not that simple. The only reason she hasn't left is because she hasn't found the location of the Frost Staff—otherwise, this place could never seal her!"

"In a hundred years, my Divine Soul will be devoured by this Array. By then, Xiaoshuang will get my memories, and she'll be able to find the whereabouts of the Frost Staff!"

Anxiousness flashed over the woman's face.

This caught Lin Chang'sheng off guard.

This Array can't seal members of the Frost Race? So what was the point of him fixing the crack?

"Then how can we stop her?"

Gu Shan asked curiously.

"Either destroy the Array, or kill me. You absolutely cannot let Xiaoshuang get my memories!"

The woman spoke slowly, her eyes full of pleading.

With no understanding of this woman, Lin Chang'sheng definitely couldn't kill her blindly.

"Then let's just destroy the Array!"

Gu Shan suggested.

"Xiaoshuang and I are sisters by blood. Back then, Father saw how ambitious she was, so he never told her where the Scepter was. He told me instead—he feared Xiaoshuang would seize the Scepter and bring calamity down upon the Immortal Realm."

The woman spoke slowly, her eyes full of sincerity.

But Lin Chang'sheng was not so easily convinced.

"Then why don't you tell me the location? I'll go check if the Scepter really exists. If it's real, I'll come back and save you—how about that?"

Lin Chang'sheng reasoned.

With a hundred years left, he had more than enough time to find the Scepter. If the Frost Staff was just as she described, then she was telling the truth. If not, she was lying.

At Lin Chang'sheng's words, the woman's expression soured visibly.

"That Scepter is too powerful! How do I know you won't abuse it for your own gain?"

The woman replied icily, clearly unwilling to reveal the Scepter's location to Lin Chang'sheng.

"Honestly, I don't think that Scepter even exists. You cooked up this whole story so we'd set you free!"

"And you're not actually Xiaoshuang's sister—if you ask me, you're the real Frost Demon Emperor, aren't you?"

Lin Chang'sheng guessed aloud.

This Demon Beast was able to be sealed by an Array—proof of tremendous power.

Lin Chang'sheng could buy that a Human would know Array techniques, but a Demon Beast? He wasn't that gullible.

So Lin Chang'sheng figured the Demon Beast had been imprisoned here deliberately by Humans, rather than what she claimed about being locked up by Xiaoshuang.

"Y-you're spouting nonsense!"

The woman's demeanor grew frenzied at Lin Chang'sheng's words.

"I think you're the one talking nonsense! If you don't come clean, I'll just send you on your way!"

With a wave of his hand, Lin Chang'sheng summoned the Dragon Abyss Sword.

"Hahaha—"

At Lin Chang'sheng's gesture, the woman realized he'd seen through her lie and burst into wild laughter.

"Sure, you have a mighty artifact, but hurting me won't be that easy!"

The woman said disdainfully.

"Let's find out!"

Regardless, Lin Chang'sheng decided to try. He swung the Dragon Abyss Sword, slashing out with Immortal Power.

Seeing the Sword Aura flying toward her, the woman lifted her hands to block.

BOOM—

The powerful Sword Aura struck her arms and sent her flying backward.

If it weren't for the iron chains and the Array, she might have flown several hundred feet away.

When she crashed to the ground, Lin Chang'sheng saw that only a tiny wound had appeared on her arm.

"You… you actually hurt me?"

The woman glared at the wound on her arm, instantly enraged.

With an enraged roar, the woman's body suddenly grew larger, transforming into a Demon Beast identical to the one outside—all covered in glimmering ice crystals.

Lin Chang'sheng's suspicion was spot on—this was truly the Frost Demon Emperor who had invaded the Immortal Realm all those years ago.

To stop her from returning to the Immortal Realm, they had built an Array here specifically to imprison her.

"How did you see through my lie?"

The Frost Demon Emperor asked, unable to see where she'd slipped up.

"Because Demon Beasts don't know Array techniques."

Lin Chang'sheng answered simply.

The Frost Demon Emperor understood immediately. She'd thought her lie was flawless, but hadn't realized her story had such an enormous hole.

"If you won't help me destroy the Array, then I'll just kill you both!"

The Frost Demon Emperor roared, demonic power raging about her as powerful waves of attacks surged at Lin Chang'sheng and Gu Shan.

Fortunately, with the Frost Demon Emperor still bound, her attacks weren't very threatening. The two of them dodged aside easily.

As she channeled more Demonic Power, the Array all around her began to shimmer with light. Countless Fiery Flames shot up, burning at her without pause.

Soon the iron chains glowed red hot, the Profound Ice Armor encasing her began to melt, and the Frost Demon Emperor had no choice but to halt her attacks.

Finally, the Array gradually stopped operating.

Lin Chang'sheng had intended to finish off the Frost Demon Emperor then and there, but realized he lacked the strength to destroy her. In the end, he had to give up!

RUMBLE—

Just as Lin Chang'sheng continued searching for a way out, the ice mountain began to tremble violently.

"They're probably coming after us!"

Lin Chang'sheng thought silently, and quickly redoubled his efforts to search for the Array's exit.

But after searching for a while, he came up empty-handed.

Lin Chang'sheng's gaze settled on the three stone platforms.

These platforms were carved with countless mysterious patterns, and there were several grooves beneath, perhaps for placing Immortal Crystals to power the Array.

"Go try it out!"

Lin Chang'sheng told Gu Shan to climb up, then placed five Immortal Crystals in the grooves.

In an instant, the Array absorbed the energy from the Immortal Crystals, erupted with dazzling light, and enveloped Gu Shan at once.
