Chapter 432 - 339: Subduing the Lightning Thunderclap Eagle and Gaining the Power of Celestial Thunder
The demon beasts gathering here are growing greater in number, and they’ll only get stronger—it’s just not something we can handle anymore.
A short while later, the remaining members of the Demon God Tribe all gathered beneath the Demon God Tree.
It was only under the protection of the Demon God Tree that they were able to catch their breath.
In that same moment, Lin Chang’sheng finished inscribing the array.
Fortunately, the teleportation array only required Spirit Stones; if it needed Immortal Crystals instead, Lin Chang’sheng would be in trouble.
Buzz—
As Lin Chang’sheng crushed the Spirit Stones, streams of Spiritual Energy poured into the array.
The teleportation array began to operate, flickering with radiance as it continuously transported the group away.
Roar—
Hiss—
From the cliffs around the valley, as those roars echoed, countless insect-type demon beasts poured out—along with the Sharp-toothed Giant Sand Insects, many other unknown demon beasts emerged.
Some were like colossal beetles a hundred times their normal size; others resembled gigantic praying mantises, their bodies pitch-black and their appearance utterly hideous.
All of these demon beasts were not to be underestimated: solid rock and earth were nothing to them, cleaved apart like tofu, effortlessly.
"Go!"
Lin Chang’sheng recalled the Void Divine Hall and the Celestial Vault Demon Tree, leading the last group out of this place.
In the very next instant, a ten-thousand-pound boulder came crashing down upon the array.
The place was immediately leveled by the swarm of demon beasts.
Had Lin Chang’sheng not taken the survivors of the Demon God Tribe away, their fate would have been obvious—not a single one would have made it out alive.
When the group appeared again, they found themselves in the spot where Lin Chang’sheng had landed just moments ago.
There was no sign of any demon beasts here.
"Everyone, stay where you are and don’t wander off. Sharp-toothed Giant Sand Insects are common in this area."
Gao Lin could tell at a glance that this place was strange.
Though the area seemed calm on the surface, the ground clearly showed traces of Sharp-toothed Giant Sand Insects passing through.
The moment any living thing moved around on the ground, it could trigger an attack from those insects.
"Daoist Lin, shouldn’t we leave this place as quickly as possible?"
The Wine Sword Immortal, seeing the danger, immediately stepped forward and spoke. He, too, was wounded from this fight.
One could imagine how perilous this place was—every extra second here was a second closer to death.
"There’s a grand array set up in this area; we can’t leave unless I break it. Give me some time!"
Lin Chang’sheng glanced at the sky—clouds churning, lightning flashing—and knew this was no ordinary array.
Even if they didn’t have to break the array to escape, Lin Chang’sheng wanted to study it to entry level. That way, if he ever perfected it, he could fuse with the array and gain an even more formidable formation.
He sat cross-legged and began channeling his divine sense to comprehend the grand array.
The people around could only wait, watching Lin Chang’sheng like this.
All they could hope was that nothing else happened while they waited.
Thankfully, Lin Chang’sheng had been studying grand arrays for years—he could break through almost any formation in front of him with rapid speed.
[Celestial Thunder Destruction Array—Entry Level!]
An hour later, Lin Chang’sheng finally comprehended this array to entry level.
He’d learned a bit about the grand array as well.
The array was comprised of seventy-nine array foundations, three array plates, and a single array hub.
It was incredibly intricate—not something an ordinary person could unravel.
Lin Chang’sheng discovered that the Lightning Thunderclap Eagle he’d subdued was actually one of the array foundations.
Which meant, in this Land of Evil, there must be nearly eighty fierce beasts as powerful as the Lightning Thunderclap Eagle.
Some of these demon beasts might even be tougher than the Lightning Thunderclap Eagle itself.
You could imagine how deadly this terrain truly was.
"One of the main array plates is right beneath that distant city?"
By examining the array layout, Lin Chang’sheng found one of the plates was under the nearby city.
If he destroyed the array plate, the grand array would collapse.
Even if it didn’t fully fall apart—even if just a gap opened—that would be enough for Lin Chang’sheng and his group to escape.
"Wait here a bit!"
Lin Chang’sheng threw those words behind him as he dashed toward the distant city.
He didn’t dare travel in the open sky, so he clung low to the ground, leaving behind blurring afterimages, before arriving in the city moments later.
Three days ago, Lin Chang’sheng and the others had battled the Bloodthirsty Taotie and hordes of skeletons here—now the place was still a ruin.
He found the temple of the World-Ending Buddha, then struck the ground with a single slash,
Boom—
With a thunderous crash, he carved an abyssal chasm into the ground.
Lin Chang’sheng hurried down the gorge, descending a thousand feet before discovering a massive, empty space below.
Inside, waves of potent Spiritual Energy and flashes of lightning radiated outward.
As he stepped closer, Lin Chang’sheng saw nine towering stone pillars, each entwined in lightning.
Sitting atop each of these pillars was an Immortal Crystal the size of a human head.
At the very center of the nine pillars was a complex formation, carefully laid out.
One look told Lin Chang’sheng it was a Spirit Gathering Array.
It could endlessly draw in Heaven and Earth Spiritual Qi, channeling it into the Immortal Crystals, allowing the array plate to run constantly.
"Such a clever arrangement!"
Lin Chang’sheng couldn’t help but marvel at the array—even a single plate was this refined, so whoever set it up must have had incredible cultivation and a true mastery of arrays.
"Forgive me!"
He bowed his head slightly, then with a wave of his palm, swept all nine Immortal Crystals into his storage space.
Crash—
He then struck and shattered the Spirit Gathering Array with a single blow.
The array plate here was thus destroyed by Lin Chang’sheng.
As Lin Chang’sheng crushed the array plate, Gao Lin and the others saw the clouds overhead suddenly part, and beams of warm sunlight spill down from the sky.
It was something they never could have expected.
"Sun... sunlight? Is this what sunlight is?"
"By the heavens! To see sunlight in this lifetime—I can die without regret!"
"Unbelievable... This Land of Evil—how many years has it been since they’ve seen sunlight?"
"Could this be Daoist Lin’s doing?"
...
The people of the Demon God Tribe were shocked speechless.
It felt impossible—some of them had never seen sunlight in their entire lives.
Now, with the clouds dispersing, seeing sunlight was an unimaginable luxury.
After destroying the array plate, Lin Chang’sheng returned to where he started.
Now the sky was clear, bright blue, none of the thunder and darkness that shrouded it before.
"Clan Leader Gao, farewell—should fate allow, we will meet again."
Lin Chang’sheng addressed Gao Lin—there was no way for him to take all of them with him.
"If fate allows, we will,"
Gao Lin replied, though his heart was bitter beyond words.
This parting, he suspected, would be forever. They likely would never meet again as long as they lived.
For in their lifetimes, they might never reach the Immortal Realm.
Buzz—
Lin Chang’sheng summoned the Void Divine Hall again. This time, with no obstruction from the Void Immortal King, it unleashed boundless power at his command—a pillar of light shot straight up, piercing the sky’s edge.
He led his companions into the beam, and in the blink of an eye, a tremendous force propelled them toward the depths of the heavens.
The Land of Evil faded away behind them, growing smaller and smaller, until it became just a dim point of light in the starry sky.
In this moment, Lin Chang’sheng was awed by the vastness of the cosmos, and the insignificance of man.
Every pinprick of light was a world unto itself.
Some creatures might live their whole lives in just one small world, forever bound there.
But Lin Chang’sheng had the chance to head toward broader lands, to see an even grander Immortal Realm.
...
As Lin Chang’sheng journeyed to the Immortal Realm—
On a remote island at the far edge of the endless stars—
Here, too, the sky was thick with clouds, thunder rolling—a thousand silver lightning serpents writhing overhead, the air alive with terrifying booms.
An old man with snow-white hair and beard floated above the sea, bathed in lightning.
Streaks of lightning crashed down upon him again and again, but to him they were as nothing—just a tickling sensation, not even worth noticing.
"Hmm?"
Suddenly, the old man’s eyes snapped open, thunder flashing in his gaze, his expression exuding a natural, overwhelming authority—impossible to look at directly.
"One of my grand arrays is gone? Has my array actually been broken?"
The old man’s eyes turned cold, his aura surging, as a tidal wave of pressure spread from his body.
The intensity of his power pressed the very sea down three yards, sending waves churning in every direction.
"Who dares—who has the nerve to break this venerable one’s array?"
The old man thundered in rage.
He had set up Celestial Thunder Destruction Arrays at eighty-one sites across the Immortal Relic Lands, seizing the power of celestial thunder to recast his Sacred Body—never expecting any of the grand arrays’ supports to be disrupted.
This would, no doubt, slow his progress in reforging the Sacred Body.
"So be it. In a hundred years more, this venerable one will achieve the Celestial Thunder Saint Body! When that time comes, all beings in the Immortal Realm will be as ants beneath my feet!"
The old man then slowly closed his eyes, returning all to an eerie calm.
