Chapter 390: News of Consecutive Deaths
"It smells so good, this soup is absolutely aromatic, it must be delicious." Lu Ke looked at the soup with Fierce Beast Chicken in the army pot and couldn’t help but swallow.
The soup had been simmering on low heat for an hour, and the fragrance filled the air.
"Everyone, come over and eat." Wang Jin took the cooked Killing Melon out of the smaller pot and happily called out.
This was the first time they used Killing Melons for cooking, and they didn’t know how it would taste.
Thus, Xu Yi also ended his training.
Everyone gathered around the campfire, each holding different bowls filled with soup and meat.
"Wow, it’s so fresh, tastes even better than chicken soup." Lu Ke, being a foodie, was the first to take a sip of the soup.
This soup only had some salt added, yet it was incredibly delicious.
"It kind of tastes like wild chicken soup, but the texture is even better," Xu Yi couldn’t help but comment.
Everyone enjoyed their potatoes while sipping on the Fierce Beast Chicken soup, feeling very content.
"This is what life is about, brother, those were tough days we had before," Qin Chao couldn’t help but sigh, as Qin Fan didn’t pay much attention to food.
Meat soup?
Forget it, just roast it and gnaw on it directly.
The best times were when Su Yan and Qin Yue brought out two crates of single-soldier rations. However, they only lasted for three days, and in the desert, there wasn’t much option for cooking anything.
"We didn’t have much either, the most comfortable ones were Xu Yi and Lu Ke. They had everything, making me and my sister really envious. Back then, I really wanted to team up with Xu Yi and them," Wang Jin said with envy. Xu Yi even brought honey, which was probably unique.
"Well, now we’re teamed up with them, and surely there will be more delicious food in the future. Xu Yi and I are quite good at finding stuff to eat, hehe," Lu Ke said with a smug smile.
She had already seen many challengers who weren’t as adept at finding food as she and Xu Yi.
"This Killing Melon really resembles sweet potato in texture, with higher sweetness, and no coarse fibers, making it a good staple food," Qin Fan happily remarked after taking a bite of the Killing Melon.
With staple food available, they no longer only ate meat, which made their digestive systems uncomfortable.
Back in the Newbie Village, they could still find some vegetables.
Now it wasn’t so easy; they didn’t recognize most of the plants here and didn’t know which ones were edible. If they mistakenly ate something poisonous, they’d all be down.
"Yes, it’s really delicious, even better than the sweet potatoes we dug up before," Lu Ke said, unable to stop after eating a piece.
After the meal, everyone found they might have eaten a bit too much.
They rested for a while and practiced the Eighteen Forms of Body Strengthening several times to relieve the bloated feeling.
Then, they began training in Telekinesis.
At night, Zhou Chun and Zhou Mo took the first half of the night watch, while Lu Yao and Su Yan took the second half.
Although Xu Yi wasn’t directly involved in the night watch, he kept an eye on the surroundings.
Today, while practicing the Supreme Profound Meditation Method, he was able to simultaneously activate Spiritual Vision.
At a distance of 12 meters, Xu Yi could comfortably train while staying vigilant.
Two Fierce Beast Chickens were tied nearby, watched over by the Black Qilin. If they managed to break free, the Black Qilin would go and kill them.
After all, compared to everyone’s safety, everything else was secondary.
The night was very peaceful.
Fierce beasts indeed seemed to be fewer in the depths of the jungle, not that easy to encounter.
Everyone trained until midnight, then went to sleep.
The next day, before dawn, it started to rain heavily, and the campfire was instantly extinguished.
"Go back to your tents to rest; I can use Spiritual Perception to keep watch around. Since it’s raining, we won’t be traveling tomorrow," Xu Yi said from inside his small tent.
"Xu Yi, why aren’t you asleep yet?" Su Yan asked, a bit surprised as it was only a little past four.
"Since I’ve awakened my Spiritual Power, my sleep can be very light, and any slight noise will wake me. So, don’t worry and go to sleep. Since it’s raining, fierce beasts probably can’t catch our scent, making it harder to find us," Xu Yi reassured. Anyway, he could continue practicing the Supreme Profound Meditation.
"Alright then, we’ll get some sleep," Lu Yao said and led the way to rest.
Su Yan initially wanted to say something, but seeing the light in Xu Yi’s tent, she followed Lu Yao to rest.
Xu Yi glanced at Lu Ke, who was sitting cross-legged nearby, and then closed his eyes.
Without Spiritual Vision, she’s not easily disturbed during Spiritual Meditation and requires some sharp noise.
"System, check in."
Since he was awake, Xu Yi decided to complete the check-in.
Today marked the 129th day of check-in.
After checking in, Xu Yi took out the three Telekinesis Arrows he had carved yesterday.
After multiple trials, Xu Yi chose the final type, the one with a trident blood groove as the fletching.
Because it’s more stable in flight.
The first type, with nothing extra, was the fastest but wasn’t easy to control direction. Xu Yi thought it would be easier to use when Telekinesis became powerful enough.
The second type was slower in flight and had more resistance, but it was the most powerful.
So Xu Yi chose a combination of them, planning to create a batch using B-level Liquid Metal.
He could use this Telekinesis Arrow himself, and others could use it too.
Xu Yi estimated that with over 5 pounds of B-level Liquid Metal, he could make about 20 of these Telekinesis Arrows.
The day quickly brightened.
Everyone woke up one after another, noticing it was still raining outside, so they stayed in their tents to practice Telekinesis.
Today, Xu Yi wasn’t planning to move. They weren’t in a hurry to get anywhere, so stopping to train for a day was fine.
The rain continued until around four in the afternoon, and while there was no standing water in the forest, the rainwater was quickly absorbed by the ground.
Though it was a rainy day, the temperature was still not low, staying around 30 degrees Celsius.
Through the day, Xu Yi and Lu Ke hadn’t stepped outside the tent, even eating jerky to fend off hunger. After all, with the rain, they couldn’t make a fire to cook lunch.
The two silently trained until the sky was about to turn dark when a string of notifications startled them awake.
"Group 003 Wang Hua dead, Group 003 Wei Qiming dead."
"Group 017 Edward dead."
"Group 022 Jin Dazong dead."
The news of four people dying in succession made everyone quite puzzled.
"What happened with these outcasts, why did so many people die?" Lu Ke couldn’t help but ask. It had only been two days since they separated.
Moreover, the edge of the jungle should be quite safe; those outcasts shouldn’t have faced much danger, so how did so many suddenly die?
