Chapter 417 - 262
"The Lu Family is small in number, Chang’sheng, why don’t you take a few more concubines, just to carry on the family lineage!"
Li Nangua said in a low voice.
Lu Chang’sheng immediately put on a stern face and said, "Don’t ever bring that up again."
But inwardly he sighed; marrying Nangua had been, in part, to avoid letting a good woman down, and in part to give his parents an explanation.
Now that his parents were both gone, there was no reason to make trouble for himself.
Not long after, the various Qi Cultivation cultivators began to leave one after another.
Lu Chang’sheng and Li Nangua followed Gu Feng, along with over twenty other late-stage Qi Cultivation cultivators, as they left the Gu Mansion together.
Outside the mansion, those waiting for news from each family, seeing their ancestors safe and sound, breathed a collective sigh of relief. But after hearing what had happened, their faces all changed dramatically.
Disaster meant death—no one wanted their own family to face such danger.
"Who knows how many people will start plotting all sorts of things when they get back this time!"
Lu Chang’sheng thought to himself.
"Alchemist Lu, my lady asked me to bring you a message." Just before parting ways, Gu Feng deliberately sought out Lu Chang’sheng and delivered Gu Chan’s words.
"I wonder, what does Miss Gu Chan wish to say?"
"For now, try not to think about running away." Gu Feng set up a Sound Insulation Spirit Array and spoke.
"Of course I won’t."
"That’s good. I don’t know the details either, but since my lady made a point to say so, there must be a reason." Gu Feng said, looking at Lu Chang’sheng with a trace of envy in his eyes.
It was obvious Miss Gu Chan had taken a liking to this Red Bull Alchemist right in front of him.
You had to know, in the Gu Family, Gu Chan was always highly sought after, but so far, no one had gotten anywhere close to her.
The duty of guarding wouldn’t begin until tomorrow morning. Lu Chang’sheng wasn’t sure how they were deciding the timing, but guessed someone from Purple Ice Lake was sending updates as needed.
That’s why things here could proceed so orderly.
"Elder Xiao Feng and the others haven’t come back. I wonder if they’re trapped over at Purple Ice Lake!"
Lu Chang’sheng thought.
Because it was quite a distance, his Sound Transmission Shell couldn’t get a message through. Otherwise, being able to ask about the situation would make things much easier.
Back at home, Lu Chang’sheng gathered everyone together in the front courtyard.
He looked around and couldn’t help but feel emotional.
The Sun generation already had six or seven people, not even counting his eldest brother Lu Haozi’s branch of the family.
He himself had two sons, Lu Ziyou only had one, but Lu Chang’an had several kids—though none of them had very good Spirit Root Talent.
"Chang’an has no talent for cultivation, though his wife Lin Yin has a Spirit Root, but unfortunately, it’s just a lower D-grade."
If the parents lacked Spirit Roots, it was hard to expect their children to have good ones either.
Someone like Nangua was definitely rare—a throwback, as people might call it; maybe her Spiritual Body only awakened in her generation due to skipped inheritance.
Lu Chang’an already had a few gray hairs, his cultivation progressing slowly, making his lifespan extension barely noticeable at all.
He told his family to reduce their outings as much as possible for now, and also to stockpile necessities when they could.
"Who knows how long this Demon Calamity will last. Food prices might go up across the board!"
"I’ll take care of it."
Lu Chang’an said.
He actually wasn’t worried about moving too slowly on this; the Lu Mansion always had a habit of stockpiling supplies. Plus, as a family with late-stage Qi Cultivation cultivators, they were definitely among the first to know about these matters.
"Father, you have a letter."
Lu Ziyou walked over.
While Lu Chang’sheng was in closed-door alchemy training, a letter had arrived from afar.
"It’s from Miss Zhuqing."
Lu Chang’sheng was a little surprised. It had been several years since he last heard from Xu Zhuqing; if not for this letter, he might have thought something bad had happened to the two of them.
"How are the two of them doing now?" Li Nangua asked.
"Let me read the letter first." Lu Chang’sheng used magical power to unlock the seal on the letter. After a moment, his brow furrowed slightly.
"What’s wrong? Is something up with them?"
"She didn’t really mention much, just noted that Master Lu seemed to be looking at them oddly."
"It’s true that Master Lu had a reputation for being a bit too fond of women." Li Nangua recalled what she’d seen in the past and mused.
"What do you think?"
She looked at Lu Chang’sheng.
Lu Chang’sheng shook his head. "For now, there’s nothing we can do, we’re barely coping ourselves."
Lu Chang’sheng didn’t tell Li Nangua that the strange feeling Xu Zhuqing wrote about in her letter wasn’t of a romantic nature at all.
The matter involved a Foundation Establishment stage cultivator; even if Lu Chang’sheng wanted to help, he wouldn’t know where to start.
The letter included an address. Lu Chang’sheng thought it over and decided to write back. Since they shared a code, even if Master Lu read it, he wouldn’t figure out anything unusual.
In his reply, all Lu Chang’sheng could do was offer encouragement and warn them to be careful.
As for anything else, he was powerless to help.
Even just sending this letter required the aid of the Gu Family. Without their help, it would be very difficult to deliver a message.
"In a while, we’ll be going to the South Gate. For now, no one at home should get involved in anything unnecessary. Remember: keep a low profile during this period."
After giving these instructions, Lu Chang’sheng and Li Nangua headed out, only to spot the Chen Family Patriarch, Chen Ming, approaching.
"Alchemist Lu, may I have a word?"
Chen Ming looked a bit shifty, glancing around nervously as if he was afraid of something.
Lu Chang’sheng gave Nangua a look, then walked aside with him.
Chen Ming set up a Sound Insulation Spirit Array, looking extra cautious. "Does Alchemist Lu know the specifics of the current situation?"
