Chapter 231: The Broken Leash
[Somewhere In The Southern Region.]
Far from the towering tower, the Southern Region gave way to a desolate, rocky canyon. This was a geographical blind spot—a place where the omniscient broadcast of the Glory Flag competition fractured and failed.
High above the jagged peaks, Cupcake hovered in the sky, the air rippling around her massive, dormant power. Beside her floated Adira, her presence cold and calculated. Both of Mirabella’s elite Subordinates were staring intensely at the raging, thrashing Wyvern chained to the canyon floor below.
"Should we do something?" Cupcake asked, her predatory instincts itching for a fight.
Adira, however, simply shook her head, her ethereal gaze analyzing the chaotic scene with absolute precision.
"That kid there doesn’t know how to control such a Beast... She knows losing it is a huge disadvantage, which is why she teleported straight from the tower to this location, that way, she will avoid the Masters watching her team." Adira moved her gaze along the glowing, volatile energy chains wrapped tightly around the Wyvern’s scaled hide. The magic was forceful, lacking the harmony of true taming.
"To those on the arena, she is waiting for the next round... Anyway, we should stay back, good things comes to those who wait." She said, folding her arms with patience.
"Huh? That saying is absurd, how will good things come to those who wait? If we stay here till she tamed that beast again, would we be able to get what we’re after?" Cupcake snapped at her, her tail flicking in sheer irritation.
Adira thought for a moment, weighing the logic. The shifting energy below confirmed Cupcake’s assessment. She nodded her tiny head, conceding the point:
"You have a point, Jessica isn’t trying to defeat it but tame it again... Ok then, let’s go." Adira said, and without another word of warning, she shot down like a bullet, leaving a trail of displaced air and a stunned Cupcake behind.
"Hey! Wait for me!!"
__
On the canyon ground, the earth trembled. Jessica stood with gritted teeth, her academy uniform stained with dirt and sweat. Her hand were stretched desperately towards the colossal Wyvern, channeling immense amounts of spirit energy to control the spectral chains binding it down.
"You dog!! You’re just a pet of my Master! How dare you go against me!!" She yelled at the Wyvern, her voice echoing off the canyon walls.
’Shit!! That Lady who called herself Luigi slapped this Beast away, due to the huge distance, I lost control of it, and it gains back its sanity! Without such a powerful Beast, my strength will greatly drop...’ She thought with a deep, frustrated frown, forcefully infusing more raw, stinging energy into the chains to re-establish the severed mental link.
"Just calm down and let me subdue you!!!" She added, her voice cracking under the strain.
GRAAAAAAA!!!!
The Wyvern let out a furious, ear-splitting roar. The soundwave tore through the canyon, sending sand, loose rock, and dust flying all over the place. The dragon-kin was remembering its pride, rejecting the artificial enslavement.
"Shut up you Beast!!" She yelled. She stretched both hands forward, digging deep into her energy pool, as more heavy, glowing chains shot out from the cracked ground, violently binding the beast’s wings and legs.
"I won’t let you escape!"
At her command, the flesh of her forehead split open. The Mythic Eye moved out, weeping a sickly silver light. The eye spun, acting as an amplifier.
’This is strange!! Mirabella’s summon slapped this Beast away, and now... Why is it this powerful now?’ She thought, cold sweat rolling down her face as she struggled to hold the beast down. The system scaling didn’t make sense to her scrambled mind.
’I don’t believe Mirabella’s summons are stronger than me!!!’
She yelled, pushing her core to the absolute limit. But before she could infuse more energy into the taming matrix, the heavens parted. A blinding golden light shot down from the sky with the force of a meteor, and instantly shattered all the chains holding the Wyvern. The magical constructs exploded into harmless glitter.
".....?!!"
Jessica froze in absolute disbelief, her arms still outstretched, watching as all her hard work shattered before her eyes and the Wyvern smashed heavily onto the ground, free from her control.
"This?"
She stared at the golden light, which slowly faded to reveal a floating silhouette that stopped floating in front of the freed Wyvern.
"What is this?"
WHOOSH!!!
Before her mind could process the angelic entity, a lethal shift in the wind made her quickly turn to her right. She saw five massive, razor-sharp claws tearing through the air, moving directly towards her.
Her Mythic Eye spun violently, instinctively triggering its absolute defense protocol. The massive claws smashed into an invisible, geometric shield. The sheer, overwhelming kinetic force of the impact shattered the ground beneath her and threw her meters backward through the air.
’Such force!! How can that Beast be bigger than the Wyvern?!!!’ She thought, her mind reeling as she forcefully stopped her backward momentum with a burst of gravitational magic from her Mythic Eye, lightly landing on her feet.
Jessica stood entirely frozen on her spot, not daring to make a single aggressive move. Her human eyes and her Mythic Eye were all fixed on the impossible creature before her. It was a 50-meter-tall White Tiger. Its divine aura was suffocating, and the majestic, feathered wings folded against its back were so huge it looked as though it could easily cover hundreds of kilometers in a single leap.
"How... Where did such a beast appear from?" She asked in pure horror. In truth, she hadn’t actually met Cupcake, so she didn’t know the identity of Mirabella’s true strength.
’She doesn’t know me? Seems Master is right,’ Cupcake thought, slightly insulted but highly amused. And with a single, casual swing of her massive, whip-like tail, she bypassed the Wyvern’s natural defenses and smashed the draconic beast straight into the bedrock.
BOOOOM!!!
"....?!"
Jessica was stunned into silence, watching helplessly as her prized, high-level Beast vomited a massive mouthful of acidic green blood and collapsed on the ground, entirely incapacitated by a single blow.
"No!!! This Beast is after my Master’s pet!!! I can’t let it kill it!!!" She yelled, her brainwashing overriding her survival instincts. But before she could even summon a spell to move forward, the temperature in the canyon dropped to freezing.
A massive, intricate red runic circle appeared etched into the earth before her. It reeked of high-tier Necromancy and soul-binding. From within the glowing blood-red light, five colossal shadows rose from the ground. They were the exact same five World Bosses Mirabella had wiped out on the hill—now resurrected and bound to Adira’s will.
".....?!"
Jessica was completely dumbfounded, her jaw slack as she stared at the terrifying lineup of World Bosses standing obediently before her in disbelief.
"Where did these monsters come out from? Wait, it can’t be..." Her fractured mind tried to calculate the power scaling, turning slowly back to the gigantic winged Tiger standing amidst the carnage.
"Is that Tiger a Realm Boss?!!!" She exclaimed in terror, completely misjudging Cupcake’s nature.
WHOOSH!!
Before she could retreat, the resurrected World Boss Anaconda shot forward. Its sheer size and speed caused the surrounding space to visually shatter like glass, and it vanished into the spatial rift the very next moment.
"This?!!"
Jessica’s Mythic Eye spun frantically again, calculating the spatial anomaly. She leaped violently backward just as the space directly below her feet shattered, and the massive Anaconda shot out from the void with its fanged mouth wide open, snapping shut exactly where she had just been standing.
"That was close!!"
Jessica landed a safe distance back, her chest heaving as she stared at the huge World Boss Anaconda. But a battlefield controlled by Adira left no room to breathe.
GRAAAAA!!!!
A devastating sonic wave shot out from the resurrected Four-Horned Lion. The compressed air moved towards her with unbelievable, reality-bending speed, tearing up the earth in its wake.
Her Mythic Eye spun once again, throwing up another barrier, as the sonic wave smashed into her. The shield held the physical tearing, but the sheer blunt-force trauma pushed her violently backward.
BAM!!
Her shield failed under the sustained pressure. She smashed heavily onto the unyielding rocky ground, the impact rattling her bones, and she rolled onto her side, violently vomiting a mouthful of blood.
