Chapter 438: The Orc Knight’s Promise
[Outside Regulus Castle, Leo Marquisate. Knight order encampment.]
"Hear me, soldiers. We are going to attack a dungeon in alliance with demons."
At the Marquis’s words, qualified from the very first sentence, the knights’ expressions turned complicated. Loyal as they were to the Marquis and House Leo, the content they’d already been briefed on was what it was, and it wasn’t easy to simply accept.
"But make no mistake, this is not fighting alongside the Demon King’s Army. We do this as humanity, as living beings who share this world, to fulfill our duty."
The knights’ eyes fixed on the platform. Beside the Marquis stood a woman in a hooded robe.
"We all know what the witch Levis did. The elves were devastated by humans and joined the Demon King’s Army. But contrary to what some of you believe, not every elf went over to them."
Vwooong.
A map unfolded in midair through a magic circle. In a forest resembling the Elven Forest, the elves split into two groups and vanished in opposite directions.
"The elves who refused to join the Demon King’s Army left their old home to build a new life somewhere else. And that is when they ran into them: the demons that came pouring out of another dungeon in the barony."
Vwooong.
The image in the magic circle changed. Hundreds of goblins came swarming out to attack the elves, and enormous ogres seized elves and carried them off. Where they had been, severed elven ears lay cooling on the ground.
"Most of the elves were taken. And perhaps... perhaps they were devoured by the enemy. But perhaps, on the smallest chance, if those demons did not kill the elves but instead violated them and kept them as dark elves, then those elves are still alive. Even if they have become dark elves, they are still breathing!!"
Vwooong.
The image changed again. This time, in a dark cave, a dark elf in rags hung in chains while an orc with an ugly smirk on his face toyed with her. The knights’ eyes went bloodshot at the sight.
"Even if they were violated, even if they were forced and made into dark elves, can that truly be called ’falling’?! If your wife, your daughter, your sister, your mother were violated by the enemy, would you call that falling!"
The Marquis’s shout carried out over the crowd like a lion’s roar.
"And so we have steeled our resolve to save the elves. This is not an alliance! At the request of the elves, who are the Demon King’s Army’s allies, we are going to rescue the dark elves! And here stands the decisive witness!"
Fwish. The figure beside the Marquis threw back her hood. The knights’ breath caught at the sight of dark elven skin bared in the sunlight.
"My name is Sola... an elf who was violated by the witch Levis and made into a dark elf."
Gaunt and worn, she met the eyes of each knight in turn and gave them a somber smile.
"A dark elf... is what an elf becomes when she is forced into intercourse against her will. Her skin turns dark. I have no doubt that most of my sisters who were taken had left the forest because they were considering relationships with humans."
At the tears welling in Sola’s downturned eyes, the knights could hardly stop themselves from leaping onto the platform then and there.
"Women like that were taken by demons. I beg you, please, people of humanity. We elves intend to go and rescue the elves held in that dungeon with the help of the legion we have allied with. Please... help us."
Drip. The tears in Sola’s eyes fell to the ground. The Marquis drew his sword and shouted to the sky.
"Knights! Will you leave a lady to weep! Will you stand by and watch elves die in tears at the hands of vile demons!!"
"No, sir!!"
"Exactly! This battle is no longer a matter of humans and demons pointing swords at each other! It is a true holy war, fought to save the elves and to show the elves the righteousness of humankind!"
"Ooooraaaah!!"
From behind the Marquis, a very tense young man, Andaihal, stepped forward. The Marquis handed him his sword, scabbard and all, and raised his voice.
"Andaihal Leo, the lord you should have been serving all along, will lead this order! This is an order! Rescue the elves!"
The entire encampment began to shake with the roar of the men.
***
"...Did you know? A dark elf rescued by a demon takes the one who saved her as her husband for the rest of her life."
"Oh, come on, man. Where’d you get that? Enough with the jokes."
"No, I’m serious. It happened way out in some other territory. An adventurer rescued a dark elf and looked after her devotedly for a month. Her skin had already turned dark, so she had nowhere to go back to, and she fell in love with the retired adventurer. And you know what happened after that?"
"They popped out some kids and grew old together?"
"Grew old together and then some. With the dark elf’s help the guy became a mage, ate well and lived well until the day he died, and then he died in her arms with his pants off."
"So what you’re saying is you want to rescue an elf this time and live like that? Transparent bastard. Same here, damn it."
Sola listened to the knights’ chatter and sank into her own thoughts. She had pulled her hood up and sat quietly out of sight, but the sidelong glances of the men passing by still stung.
"My apologies, Lady Sola. They’re simply not used to the sight of an elf."
"...You may say dark elf, human."
"I disagree. Elves are all elves. Among them there are dark elves and high elves and so on, that’s all. Just as among humans there are people of the kingdom and people of the empire."
Sola looked up at the man who had brought her tea. He was a young man who resembled Gotdaihal, the one who had been thundering at the crowd.
"Andaihal Leo."
"Sola. Dark elf."
"Sorting people into species by skin color is discrimination. I, at least, hold no such prejudice. Instead..."
Andaihal cleared his throat and gestured with his eyes at the empty seat beside her.
"...perhaps we could have some tea and talk for a wh-"
Whoooosh.
A violent wind came whipping down. Sola shot up out of her seat and ran forward.
"Ah!"
Above them, an enormous monstrous bird was descending slowly toward the encampment, beating steel-like wings. They had been warned in advance, but with a monster landing right in the middle of camp, the knights swallowed hard and readied themselves to fight at any moment.
"A black... giant crow?"
The steel crow settled onto the ground. The knight in heavy armor riding on its back dismounted with more nobility and grace than any knight of House Leo.
Fwump!
Sola ran to the knight and threw herself into his arms. The knight removed his helmet and set it on the saddle of the crow he’d flown in on.
"Huh."
Andaihal was stunned the moment he saw who the knight was. He’d thought the man’s frame was unusually large: the knight was an orc.
An orc, yes, but one handsome enough that you’d mistake him for an elf. If not for the green skin, if not for those odd orcish ears, he was a strikingly good-looking man, the kind even another man would concede was handsome without argument.
"Sola, one moment."
"Yes...!"
The orc knight excused himself from Sola and strode toward the Marquis, toward Marquis Gotdaihal. The lady knights gathered off to one side of the order gulped at the sight of a handsome face rarely seen even in a marquis’s house.
"Galahad, knight of the Legion of Wrath. I’ve come to collect Miss Sola. Thank you for permitting the flight."
"...A pleasure to meet you."
Gotdaihal glanced briefly at Andaihal, then greeted Galahad. The orc paladin in front of him addressed the Marquis with etiquette so precise it would have passed in the capital, or even in the empire.
"May I ask you one thing?"
"Please."
"How does your legion intend to go about rescuing the elves?"
"...Forgive me, but I don’t follow the question. It isn’t a matter of how we intend to. We are already doing it."
Galahad’s words hit the knights hard. Andaihal rushed forward and demanded an answer.
"Y-you mean you’ve already marched on the dungeon?!"
"Correct. The legion’s forces began their advance the day we sent our envoy."
"...And if we had refused the envoy and retaken the barony ourselves?"
"Andaihal!"
Gotdaihal shouted at the sheer rudeness of the question, but Galahad simply smiled faintly and took Sola’s hand.
"If humanity has a righteous cause, it will keep its promises without fail. Those are the words of our Legion Commander and the Elf Queen."
Whoooosh.
Galahad the orc knight took Sola the dark elf and rose into the sky. The knights watched the black speck fly off into the eastern sky, deep in thought.
"...Your Excellency."
Andaihal clenched his fists and bowed his head to the Marquis.
"I will assemble a rescue force as fast as possible and get to the elves in that dungeon before they do, without fighting them."
"...Well said, Andaihal!"
Gotdaihal pulled Andaihal into a fierce embrace.
Half a day later.
With every preparation complete, the knight order marched at speed toward the place the dungeon was said to be.
***
[Meanwhile, in the succubus sector of Astaroth’s dungeon.]
"That’s more comfortable."
"P-please, spare me! I’ll spread my legs! Please!"
The succubus whose tail I had hold of begged as I dragged her along the floor. Every other succubus had already been beaten to a pulp and killed. The only one left alive in front of me was the one in my hand.
"Too late. You should have spread them when I said so. I said spread your legs and instead you spread your fingers and tried to claw me. You see this gash right here on my thigh?"
I pointed at the scratch on the outer plate of my dwarven armor.
"This thing cost a fortune, and now it’s scratched! How are you going to make that up to me?"
"Spare me! I’ll pay with my body!"
"Sure you will. Of course you’ll pay with your body. But is that all?"
I grabbed the tip of her tail and squeezed hard. That the tail is packed with nerve endings, so even a little stimulation turns into overwhelming pleasure, is something I figured out through Shaitan a long time ago.
"Hik, hiiiik!!"
"Tell me where your sector boss is and I’ll let you live."
"Ah, agh, aaaaah...!"
The succubus clawed at the floor in agony. As if some seal kept her from speaking, she just kept scratching the ground, caught between pleasure and the fear of death.
"All right. I’ll let you live."
"Ah...!"
"You’re going to live inside Lime forever from now on. Lime, eat this one too."
"Ooh, a live succubus."
Lime, who had been devouring the corpses of the dead succubi, licked her lips and sauntered over. Wearing the body of a succubus she’d just eaten, quite different from the form that resembled Meri, she crossed one leg over the other as she walked and climbed on top of the succubus.
"Big sister’s going to eat you up nice and good."
"N-noooooo!!"
Glurp, glurp. Lime pressed down on the succubus from above and swallowed her whole. I caught my breath and stripped off my shredded robe.
"Tch. That was expensive."
"At least it kept the dwarven armor from getting scratched up worse."
"If that’s supposed to be a comfort, I suppose it’s a comfort. Ah, Lune, you don’t understand this pain."
Even a scratch on a used carriage stings the heart. Looking at the claw marks gouged mercilessly into my armor, my eyes actually welled up. This is the only suit of armor made in my size, so there’s no getting another one, and now the outside of it was covered in ugly damage.
"Tch. Still, at least nobody got hurt. Meri, you all right?"
"Dad, I learned something new."
"Where’s this coming from?"
"Take a good look at the Virginium Shield."
Meri drove her Holy Sword into the center of the genital shield. The shield, onto which I’d thrown countless succubi in the middle of the fight, broke into particles of light that flowed right into the Holy Sword Virgo.
"It seems like it takes the enemies we kill as nourishment and turns them into divine power."
"That’s starting to look less like a holy sword and more like a demonic one. Heh heh, whatever its origin, if it helps right now, that’s all that matters."
I strode over to the dark elf lying face down on the floor, unconscious. Her cut ears had healed over into an ugly scar, and the shape they’d been left in was not a good look.
"Hey. Wake up. Get u-"
In an instant, the elf who had been out cold on the floor lunged at me and grabbed me by the collar.
"If it weren’t for you, if only you didn’t exist...!"
"I go out of my way to come rescue you and this is what I get."
"None of this would have happened if you didn’t exist!!"
"So what. If you’ve got a complaint, get strong and come kill me."
Whump.
I buried a fist in the dark elf’s stomach. She hacked out a dry cough and clutched her belly, and I forced her flat on her back, smeared a little of Lime’s slime on her chest, and pulled hard.
Slurrrp.
"Aaagh?!"
"...Weak! It’s like chocolate powder cut with water. Ahh, so unless they turn into cookies-and-cream through Ras, the flavor really is no good."
Sola, who became a dark elf by her own choice, tastes like chocolate melted into milk. It was a bit of a surprise that a dark elf made by force tastes so much worse.
"This won’t do. You’re going to need some ’selective breeding.’"
"Kuh-hk, what...?!"
"You’ll be sitting tight until our rescue party comes to save you."
Lune pulled something from the pack on her back. I took the leather strap restraints and bound the dark elf’s wrists and ankles.
"We did come back around to pick up the passengers who missed the carriage, but that doesn’t mean I’m taking you all in with open arms."
Squeeeze.
When I gripped the dark elf’s breast, brown liquid started leaking from her nipple. It tasted like watery sugar water, so even splattered across the floor it stirred nothing in me.
"So until you’re born again as a person, you’re going to be ’livestock.’"
"What...?"
"The Legion of Wrath seeks coexistence with elves, and we can’t let non-virgin elves like you in. Until you’re born again, you’ll be working on the Legion of Pride’s ranch. That’s right..."
I kept my grip on her chest and pushed my fingers down between her legs.
"...chocolate milk out of the top, orcs out of the bottom. Until you’re born again... for life."
Despair settled deep into the dark elf’s eyes.
