Chapter 147: Going for a Bath? This Time It’s On Me
His parents weren’t dead. He even carried the added weight of being the Hokage’s son. But Naruto didn’t behave like Boruto in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations—he didn’t misunderstand his father or deliberately stir up trouble just to draw attention. Instead, every time he saw how the villagers adored his father, envy welled up inside him. He even made a silent oath: one day, he would become Hokage, earn everyone’s recognition, and become someone like Minato.
As it turned out, people grow into who they truly are. With his parents by his side, Naruto longed for acknowledgment even more. He cherished this Konoha, this home, with all his heart. The only thing that really irritated him was the spoiled heir from the Uchiha clan standing in front of him.
Always putting on a show, copying his brother and waving around a sword. Did he really think he was the successor to Konoha’s Kenpachi? And even though Naruto had no particular talent for Kenjutsu, he had spent plenty of days training alongside his brother. Not long ago, he had even secretly learned a new move from his father.
Today, the Second Protagonist must fall. That’s what he told himself.
I’m going to beat him.
Prove myself.
Show my brother!
“Second Protagonist, yesterday I heard from my brother that when you were little, you almost turned me into a girl.”
Naruto slowly drew a kunai from his bag, gritting his teeth.
“Don’t act so innocent. Remember how much it hurt when you grabbed me? And besides, no one but Master gets to call me ‘Pillar.’”
Sasuke’s expression darkened as he yanked the small sword from his waist. If Naruto hadn’t brought it up, maybe it would’ve been fine. But once the topic surfaced, the rage in Sasuke’s chest flared uncontrollably.
Ever since he was old enough to remember, he’d had one lingering question: why did he always feel that vague, phantom pain every time he went to the bathroom? Unable to make sense of it, he eventually asked his brother. When he learned the truth, he exploded on the spot and immediately got into a fight with Naruto.
That childhood yanking—it left lasting consequences! It didn’t affect functionality, but that dull ache would probably haunt him for life. He was furious, and the culprit was right in front of him!
Whoosh!
Whoosh!
The two shot at each other. Their sheer speed stunned the Third, who was watching nearby. This wasn’t a level even genin could usually reach. Good heavens. Just how did that man train these two brats?
Forget the Seal of Confrontation. Normally, before a spar, both ninja had to form the Opposing Seal to officially begin. But these two already had animosity between them. The Seal of Confrontation symbolized reconciliation. They’d rather just fight.
Their figures blurred as kunai and short sword collided with a sharp clang. The surrounding students froze. This was only an entrance exam. Most new academy students hadn’t even learned how to properly handle a kunai or a short blade yet. But these two could already use them with ease.
Were they even students? They felt more dangerous than genin.
Kunai and sword crossed, and the two drew apart. The next moment, Naruto let out a mischievous chuckle and formed a seal.
Shadow Clone Technique!
Boom!
Beside him, a flash of white light burst forth, and two shadow clones identical to Naruto appeared. Shadow Clone Technique. Unlike the illusory clones created by the Clone Technique, these were fully physical shadow clones. They carried the user’s consciousness and had real durability. A solid B-rank ninjutsu.
With Kurama no longer causing trouble, Naruto’s talent for ninjutsu had been developed to its fullest. He had already mastered the Multi-Shadow Clone Technique right at the start of the school year. Against Naruto, holding back was pointless.
Sasuke drew a deep breath, let out a cold snort, and raised his small sword high. A second later, pale blue chakra flowed from his body and wrapped around the blade. Chakra Blade—infusing chakra into a weapon to increase its destructive power.
“Not bad, Second Protagonist.”
All three Naruto drew their kunai at once and charged. Four figures clashed in chaotic combat. The sight of their movements left the surrounding students completely stunned.
This was supposed to be a new first-year? Was this a joke? Going to school alongside a monster like this—what kind of pressure would that be? Awe, confusion, despair… the new students were utterly overwhelmed.
Meanwhile, the fight on the field grew more intense as time passed. When faint sparks of lightning flickered along Sasuke’s blade, and Naruto stretched his hand toward his shadow clones, the Third Hokage realized that if he let them keep going, any hopes he had of getting his own name onto the Wall of Honor would be gone forever.
He grabbed one boy in each hand, blew a thick cloud of secondhand smoke at them, and smiled faintly.
“I hereby declare the entrance exam concluded.
Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha are tied for first place!”
Finally over? The students collectively exhaled in relief. If they had watched any longer, they might have sworn off becoming ninja altogether.
“Tch.”
The two boys stole quick glances at each other, then turned their heads away.
From afar, Neji watched with a trace of regret. Both of them had clearly been preparing some powerful techniques, but he never got to see them. Still… they were incredibly strong.
Clenching his fist, Neji was just about to release his Byakugan when a figure suddenly dropped from the sky and landed on the field. His already wide eyes went bloodshot in an instant.
It was him. The legendary man. Flowing long hair, a black martial arts uniform, a fox resting on his shoulder, a stunningly handsome face marked by a lightning-shaped scar, a pitch-black long sword at his waist, and that gourd flask—there was no mistaking it. Konoha’s Kenpachi, right before him.
“Konoha’s Kenpachi…”
Neji whispered the name, swallowing hard. It really was him.
“If we’re talking about fighting, that was a bit excessive just now.”
Taking the two little troublemakers from the Third, Hakken lifted one in each hand, raising them off the ground. It was over. They’d been caught.
Sasuke and Naruto both turned pale. They didn’t even dare look at him, terrified he might suggest some horrifying punishment. Like making them bathe together as brothers. Scrub the back of the person they hated most? Dream on.
“But…”
Hakken’s long black hair slipped over his shoulders as he offered a warm smile.
“You did well. Keep working hard.”
Oh my god. That strict older brother actually smiled at them? Naruto blinked in disbelief. Sasuke froze beside him. And so did every child watching.
Ino and Sakura’s eyes locked onto Hakken instantly and didn’t budge. He had just shattered the ceiling of how handsome someone could be.
Hakken glanced around without saying anything and made his way toward the Academy gates. Coming to see his little brothers’ entrance ceremony wasn’t a big deal for an older brother. With Itachi out on a mission, this sort of responsibility naturally fell on him.
Just as he stepped outside the gates, a purple figure dropped into his arms.
“Hey, gotcha.”
Her familiar cheek pressed against his shoulder, her scent instantly recognizable. Hakken let out a small smile.
“I never hid.”
“Is that so? Then…”
Her pale cheeks flushed as she leaned closer to his ear.
“Want to go bathing? This time, it’s my treat.”
“The mixed-bathing kind…”
