Ye Tianfan watched as the Unicorne Poison Snake rampaged through the forest, occasionally letting out a roar or two.

Just as Ye Tianfan was about to leave, knowing he wasn't strong enough to deal with the Unicorne Poison Snake and needed to seek help, he suddenly noticed something black sticking out of the ground in the forest the snake had ravaged.

But then Ye Tianfan realized something was wrong. If what the townspeople said was about this Unicorne Poison Snake, the whole town should have been wiped out by now. Moreover, this Unicorne Poison Snake seemed to have been an adult for several years; it couldn't have just matured recently.

It seems the beast the townspeople mentioned is not the same as this one.

Ye Tianfan sighed in relief. Thank goodness it's not this one!

Ye Tianfan then descended to the spot where he had just seen the black thing.

Ye Tianfan immediately leaped back, raising his Fire Lotus Sword, warily watching the black creature.

As soon as Ye Tianfan spoke, the girl was clearly startled and instinctively retracted entirely into her shell.

Seeing this, Ye Tianfan couldn't help but feel a pang of sympathy—not because of her strange appearance, but because her reaction seemed sadly practiced.

Then Ye Tianfan saw the girl peek her head out of the shell a little and asked, "Has that big stupid snake left?"

"If you're referring to the Unicorne Poison Snake, it's gone. But what about you? Are you human or a Demon Beast?" Ye Tianfan asked the girl, puzzled.

"I'm human! Besides, how could a Demon Beast talk? And except for the shell, I'm entirely human, right?" The Turtle Shell Maiden said, emerging more from her shell after confirming the Unicorne Poison Snake had left.

The Turtle Shell Maiden dusted herself off and turned to walk away.

Watching her leave, Ye Tianfan suddenly remembered that this was the direction of the cave from before.

Could this Turtle Shell Maiden be the beast the town head mentioned?

"Hey! Are you the one who often sneaks into Huo Rong Town to steal poultry?" Ye Tianfan asked as he followed her.

"Yeah, that's me!"

Ye Tianfan was surprised that the Turtle Shell Maiden didn't deny it and admitted it straightaway.

This left Ye Tianfan at a loss for words.

"I was hired by the town head of Huo Rong Town to deal with the beast stealing their poultry." Ye Tianfan said calmly, wanting to see her reaction.

However, her reaction surprised Ye Tianfan.

The Turtle Shell Maiden stopped, turned to look at Ye Tianfan, and after scrutinizing him, said, "Is that so? Then just kill me, so I can be freed!"

Hearing this, Ye Tianfan looked closely at the Turtle Shell Maiden and realized her eyes were filled with hopelessness. It wasn't that her gaze had changed; it had always been this way—all hopelessness since the beginning.
