Chapter 470 - 443: The Right Candidate
Tang Jinglun said, "During this period, we’ve evaluated and calculated the group’s current situation. As long as we can secure a year’s buffer period, I am confident we can recover ten billion in cash through selling fixed assets and transferring equity."
Tang Jingwei lit a cigarette. Ten billion in cash, if this amount can truly be recovered, then the immediate crisis facing Huanyan would surely be resolved.
Tang Jinglun said, "Government support is extremely important in this process." The reason it is important is because Huanyan’s reputation was nearing bankruptcy.
Yang Mufeng’s information might be delayed, but that does not mean he lacks sources. When he learned of Xu Chunliang’s past feats, he was immediately a bit panicked. He dared to beat up even the chairman’s precious son, and the key is that after beating him, he could still walk away unscathed.
Now Yang Mufeng felt like he was on a tiger’s back, unable to get off. He had announced the decision to suspend Xu Chunliang for investigation in front of so many people, which equated to declaring war on Xu Chunliang. But he was the one who declared war, and he couldn’t control when the battle would end.
Over at Changxing, Zhao Feiyang was also very cooperative, coordinating with him to make the decision to suspend all of Xu Chunliang’s current duties. Yang Mufeng was initially pleased with Zhao Feiyang’s cooperation, but now he realized this guy was just adding fuel to the fire, digging pits and setting traps for him.
Originally, he wouldn’t have reported this to Tang Jinglun, but it happened that Tang Jinglun called to inform him that Dong Changhao had confirmed his resignation.
Yang Mufeng hesitated for a moment but still told Tang Jinglun about how he dealt with Xu Chunliang. Although Yang Mufeng was somewhat arrogant, he wasn’t stupid. He did not say it was because Xu Chunliang contradicted him but rather found a reason—Xu Chunliang was Zhao Feiyang’s mole planted in Huanyan Health, constantly creating trouble under Zhao Feiyang’s instigation.
Thus, he suspended him, aiming to strike the mountain to shake the tiger, kill the chicken to warn the monkey, considering Huanyan Health’s overall strategic planning, and therefore, he didn’t mind offending these people.
Tang Jinglun sighed and said, "Mufeng, do you think I don’t know about his relationship with Zhao Feiyang? You don’t understand Xu Chunliang. You have to coax him. Your intentions are good, but you may not achieve the results you want."
Yang Mufeng said, "President Tang, it seems I haven’t considered this matter thoroughly."
Tang Jinglun said, "Alright, how about you retract that suspension investigation? Also, help me invite Pei Lin over to assist with overseeing Huanyan Health’s operations."
"What?"
With profound meaning, Tang Jinglun said, "If you want to put the tiger in the cage, you must find the right person. Pei Lin shouldn’t refuse your invitation."
Yang Mufeng had originally thought that after Dong Changhao’s departure, it was only natural for him to preside over Huanyan Health. Yet he didn’t expect that Tang Jinglun’s real candidate of choice was Pei Lin.
He could understand Tang Jinglun’s arrangement, but internally he felt somewhat imbalanced. Initially, Tang Jinglun had never valued his ability, and what made it unbearable was that, in Tang Jinglun’s eyes, he wasn’t even as important as Xu Chunliang.
Pei Lin pushed open the door and walked into Yang Mufeng’s office, looking at Yang Mufeng sitting in the executive chair, she felt disgusted from the bottom of her heart.
Yang Mufeng, acting as if nothing had happened, smiled and said, "Here you are, please have a seat!"
Pei Lin said indifferently, "Cut to the chase, I have other things to do."
Yang Mufeng said, "It’s like this, Dong Changhao resigned, and I recommended you to President Tang to take his place."
Pei Lin looked at him coldly, "Yang Mufeng, are you done yet? Can you not drag me into your affairs?"
Yang Mufeng said, "It’s a temporary help nature, President Tang is also out of options. He also said that once a suitable candidate is found, you can leave at any time."
How could Pei Lin not be aware of their tactics? This was to draw her into the game and bind her to the Huanyan Health ship, thereby restraining Zhao Feiyang.
Pei Lin secretly cursed the despicable and low-handed methods of these people. Yang Mufeng was just an accomplice; the real black hand was Tang Jinglun.
Pei Lin took a deep breath and said, "President Yang, you should be aware of my current situation. My husband is the head of Changxing Hospital. I’m not suitable for a position within Huanyan Health."
Yang Mufeng smiled and said, "You’re overthinking. Huanyan Health and Changxing Hospital, although belonging to the same group, are independent entities by nature. In the future, Huanyan Health will be independently listed. President Tang greatly acknowledges your abilities..." He paused, expression ambiguous, "I also agree!"
It was as if Pei Lin’s heart was fiercely whipped, she bit her lip, and Yang Mufeng got up and walked toward her, whispering, "I know what you’re worried about..."
Pei Lin suddenly raised her hand and slapped him hard across the face, and when she went to strike a second time, Yang Mufeng caught her wrist.
Lowering his voice, Yang Mufeng said, "I now have nothing, so I have nothing to fear. You have your life, and I have my future. As long as you behave obediently, there will be no conflict between us."
Pei Lin, enraged, spat on his face.
Yang Mufeng laughed, released Pei Lin’s hand, and softly said, "I lack patience, the only thing that can make me patient is photography. Would you like to take a look?"
Pei Lin’s breathing became rapid.
Yang Mufeng said, "Whether to hold each other and perish together or to achieve each other, the choice is yours. It doesn’t matter to me since I have nothing to lose now."
Pei Lin’s eyes turned red; she had never felt so desperate in her life.
"Three months! After three months, whether or not you find a suitable candidate, I’m leaving Huanyan!"
"It’s a deal!"
##
Tang Jinglun personally called Xu Chunliang. When Xu Chunliang received the call, he was on his way to pay respects at his ancestors’ graves. There were still a few days of holiday left before the New Year, and Yang Mufeng had made him suspend work for inspection, thus starting his vacation early.
Tang Jinglun said, "Xiaoxu, I heard you had some misunderstandings with Yang Mufeng."
Xu Chunliang laughed and said, "Just a small matter, President Tang, why are you calling personally?" He knew very well that Tang Jinglun was worried about him causing trouble, but what use was worrying? Yang Mufeng had already successfully made it onto his blacklist.
Tang Jinglun said earnestly, "It’s all for work, Xiaoyang is too rigid in his ways and doesn’t understand the situation. I’ve already criticized him." Even Tang Jinglun himself felt helpless, as the CEO of a listed company, he actually had to humble himself to call a small figure and apologize.
Tang Jinglun was well aware of Xu Chunliang’s character; this kid was likely to retaliate against Yang Mufeng. He didn’t care about Yang Mufeng’s fate, but Xu Chunliang’s retaliatory actions could potentially affect his overall plans. He had to personally put out the fire; forgoing small grievances to avoid disrupting major plans.
Xu Chunliang said, "It has nothing to do with President Yang. After thinking it over calmly, I realized the problem was with my attitude."
Tang Jinglun said, "It’s all for work, no one’s at fault. Xiaoxu, just go back to work as soon as possible."
Xu Chunliang said, "I’ll definitely come back after the New Year."
Tang Jinglun couldn’t say much else; after the New Year, it is then. Let the guy stay home and cool off; at least there won’t be any more conflicts before the year ends.
Xu Chunliang hung up the phone and quickly received a friend request, which turned out to be from Yang Mufeng. The friend request message read: Brother, it’s me, Yang Mufeng.
Xu Chunliang chuckled inwardly at how this guy could bend and stretch, and accepted Yang Mufeng’s friend request.
Yang Mufeng first sent a smiling face emoji, then a handshake emoji.
Xu Chunliang ignored him, and Yang Mufeng didn’t follow up. These two emojis were just a probe; if Xu Chunliang had responded, he would have probably followed up with some conciliatory words. But since Xu Chunliang ignored him, Yang Mufeng decided not to push his luck, especially because if records showed him admitting defeat, it would be humiliating.
Sitting in the passenger seat, Xu Changshan reminded, "Turn right up ahead!"
Xu Jiawen began to slow down, and Zhen Chun, who was sitting beside Xu Chunliang, couldn’t help but complain, "Grandpa, the Xu family’s ancestral graves are really far away!"
Xu Changshan said, "It’s not that far, just over 20 miles from the city center."
Xu Chunliang looked outside; he had no impression of this place either. The road ahead was narrow, clearly leading up the mountain.
This place is called Yangshan. There are many grave mounds on the mountain, not a planned cemetery. According to Xu Changshan, in the past, people bought woodland on the mountain for burial. Xu Changshan’s parents, sister, and wife are all buried here.
There are tank paths on the mountain, and tank units usually train here. However, starting last year, this area has been included in the city’s plan for an urban forest park, and the graves on the mountain face relocation.
The whole family came this time, partly to pay respects before the festival and partly to check out the situation.
Xu Jiawen parked the car, and they had to climb the mountain path to reach halfway up. Since it’s hilly, it wasn’t too difficult.
On the way, they saw two tanks parked in a clearing, and Zhen Chun ran over amusedly to take pictures with them.
Xu Chunliang handed his grandpa a bottle of water. Xu Changshan took a sip and said, "I’ve heard that this area will be completely relocated by next year."
Xu Chunliang said, "Should we pull some strings?"
Xu Changshan shook his head and said, "It’s necessary for urban development; we won’t hinder it. Now there are two options: either bury them deeper on site or relocate the graves earlier, for which the government will provide some compensation."
Xu Jiawen said, "Dad, have you decided where to relocate to?"
"To the First Cemetery. I’ve checked it out; the environment there is quite nice."
Xu Jiawen said, "I remember Grandpa and Grandma’s graves have already been relocated once."
Xu Changshan nodded and said, "Dongzhou has developed so rapidly. It used to be farmland outside the second ring road, and now they’re building up to the third and fourth rings. The city’s area is more than five times larger than before, and you can’t find grave mounds in the city center anymore. Back then, I thought this mountain was no problem, but just over twenty years later, they’re starting to turn it into a park."
Xu Jiawen said, "I heard that cemetery usage rights are also for twenty years. After that, you have to renew it."
Xu Changshan laughed and said, "How can one plan so far ahead? In any case, as long as I’m alive, you don’t have to worry about the old folks. When I’ve gone, scatter me into the sea, let me return to dust and soil, merge me with nature."
