Chapter 482: The Bloodstained Long Chef's Knife
Seeing Lin Ye not responding, the two D-Class personnel didn't continue to provoke him. After all, in a place like this, they didn't dare act recklessly.
A few more minutes passed, and an overseer wearing protective clothing entered the room. He pushed a handcart covered with a black velvet cloth that concealed the items on it.
"What is this? Why are you wearing that outfit?"
The old black man asked nervously, looking at the handcart.
The overseer completely ignored him, put down the handcart, and left the room. The door closed, and the sound of a lock clicking into place echoed from outside.
"...Hey, you! Go lift that black cloth!"
The middle-aged white man yelled at Lin Ye.
Lin Ye remained motionless, sitting by the table. He had absolutely no desire to get close to that handcart.
"It seems I need to teach you a lesson."
Damon walked over to Lin Ye and grabbed for his collar, intending to give him a lesson. Lin Ye moved his hands and feet slightly, tripping Damon and shoving him toward the handcart.
Damon crashed solidly into the handcart, accidentally pulling off the black cloth in the process.
"Eek!"
Terrified, Damon scrambled away from the handcart, but the area around it was eerily quiet, as if there was nothing particularly dangerous.
The black cloth lay on the floor. On the handcart rested a long kitchen knife stained with blood.
"...What is this?"
Old black man Kem's voice trembled slightly.
"Hey! Is anyone out there?! What the hell does this mean?! Tell us what we're supposed to do!"
Damon slammed his fist against the door, and to his surprise, it swung open.
All four D-Class personnel in the room looked at the door. Damon, who had just punched it, was stunned; he never expected to actually break it open.
But outside wasn't the corridor they had passed through earlier. Instead, it was a patch of dilapidated, old floorboards and grimy walls.
"...Am I seeing things?"
Kem rubbed his eyes vigorously, suspecting something was wrong with his vision.
Lin Ye thought for half a second, then picked up the long kitchen knife from the handcart and strode out of the room.
"Hey, where are you going?"
"Why did you take that knife?"
Damon and Kem asked in hushed tones from behind.
Lin Ye paid them no mind. An abnormal incident had clearly occurred here. Staying in the room any longer was asking for trouble. The kitchen knife was likely related to this abnormal incident and might be useful later.
Since he could restart after dying anyway, Lin Ye was acting more casually than usual.
Outside the room connected to a dilapidated old building. Holding the kitchen knife, Lin Ye lightened his footsteps as he passed through a wooden corridor. The rooms on either side were filled with junk, and the walls were stained with large amounts of dried black blood.
The interior of the building was abnormally quiet. Lin Ye listened carefully for any movement around him but heard nothing.
It was so quiet, not even the sound of wind could be heard.
Lin Ye didn't yet know what this place was or what he was supposed to do here. But the organization had placed the handcart in the room for a reason.
Just as Lin Ye was deep in thought, a tall silhouette appeared behind him, with one black and one white human head hanging from its arm.
Lin Ye instantly dropped to the floor and rolled forward. He hadn't noticed the silhouette behind him at all, but a familiar smell of blood made him realize something was standing there.
*Whoosh!*
The sound of a blade cutting through the air rang out above Lin Ye's head. He continued rolling forward, crawling low to the ground, but a sudden gust of wind pressed against his side.
*Thud!*
Lin Ye was kicked flying. He felt his internal organs were injured.
Fortunately, the kick had landed on the blade of the kitchen knife, which then slammed the back of the blade into Lin Ye's side. If that kick had landed squarely, his organs would likely have been ruptured.
A trace of black blood now stained the blade. This time, the other party's movement speed noticeably slowed down a bit, probably because its leg had been cut by the blade.
Lin Ye got up, clutching his side, and moved through the building. Disjointed footsteps echoed behind him.
'Is it a teleportation ability? Or can it just run that fast?'
Lin Ye was currently just an ordinary person. The physical gap between him and the thing behind him was enormous. His chances of winning a direct confrontation were extremely low.
Suddenly, the footsteps behind him vanished.
Lin Ye abruptly stopped, turned sideways, and rushed into a nearby room.
The silhouette appeared at the spot where Lin Ye had just been. It directly attacked the corridor ahead. By then, Lin Ye had already pried open the room's window with the kitchen knife and climbed outside.
Outside the building was a dilapidated courtyard. Lin Ye was currently standing on the second-floor window ledge. Instead of jumping into the courtyard, he used his strength to climb up to the third-floor window ledge.
The building had only three floors in total. It seemed to be an old-style villa with a courtyard.
The silhouette didn't chase him out. It merely stood by the second-floor window, glanced at the ruined courtyard, and then vanished into the darkness.
Lin Ye climbed from the third-floor window ledge onto the roof. He carefully stepped on the old, worn roof boards, afraid of breaking the planks beneath his feet.
'So, what am I supposed to do? Kill this monster with the kitchen knife?'
Lin Ye crouched in a corner of the roof, thinking about what to do next.
"Aaaaaaahhhh!"
A woman's piercing scream came from the west side of the third floor. Lin Ye, holding the kitchen knife, rushed toward the sound. The other party clearly intended to kill them all. In this situation, thwarting its goal might be a good option.
But Lin Ye was a step too late. This female D-Class personnel might have been slightly stronger than the other two useless fools, but she was still just an ordinary person. Before Lin Ye could get close, the silhouette had already chopped off her head.
Lin Ye could only stop and retreat toward the edge of the roof. At that moment, a large hand burst through the roof planks, almost grabbing Lin Ye's ankle.
The silhouette tore through the wooden planks and climbed onto the roof. It charged at Lin Ye like a humanoid tank, shattering a plank with every step.
It had been a long time since Lin Ye encountered a situation where he could only fight with his physical body. He stared intently at the other's body, standing still as he adjusted his breathing.
Suddenly, the silhouette stomped and shattered the floorboards beneath its feet. Its body had just begun to tilt downward when it abruptly vanished from Lin Ye's sight.
Lin Ye gripped the kitchen knife in his right hand in a reverse grip, braced his left hand against his right, and stabbed with all his might toward the upper right diagonal of his body. At that exact moment, the tall silhouette appeared to Lin Ye's right. The blade plunged precisely into the silhouette's heart.
Before stomping the floorboards, the silhouette had prepared to teleport. Its body had telegraphed the movement in advance, giving Lin Ye the basis for his judgment.
The entire blade sank into the silhouette's body. Lin Ye twisted the handle and simultaneously pulled back, withdrawing.
The silhouette swung its arm, aiming to slash Lin Ye's head. An invisible blade swept past Lin Ye's head, slicing off only a small patch of scalp.
Like a large fish, Lin Ye leaped into the hole the silhouette had stomped in the roof. He sprinted down the corridor, heading straight for the first floor of the villa.
