Chapter 423: Experimental Corridor
"What are you going to do?"
Andrew asked.
"Feed it, of course. Being stuck in a place like this, it probably rarely gets to eat anything tasty... Which one of you wants to go down again?"
Andrew took the elevator down to Floor 3940. Lin Ye inserted a vibrant red flower into the biological sample, then pried open the elevator doors and forcefully threw the biological sample into the darkness.
"Will this work?"
Bessie asked uncertainly.
"Hard to say. I don't even know what kind of anomalous creature is in there. It's up to luck."
It was just like fishing. Whether you could catch a big fish had little to do with the fishing enthusiast's skill and more to do with whether the big fish felt like giving you face.
Lin Ye kept throwing biological samples into the darkness. If the feeding plan failed, they would have no choice but to venture into the floor itself.
That wasn't a great idea, because even if they reached Floor 3942, they'd still need to find a way to get to higher floors. Lin Ye wasn't planning to use the Abyssal Eye in such a confined space. If he accidentally summoned something troublesome, they'd have nowhere to run.
The biological samples thrown up didn't fall back down. Although it was uncertain if they had been eaten, at least they weren't wasted.
Lin Ye tried to sense the anomalous creature in the darkness with his mental energy, but just like last time, he failed.
"We should contact the one below."
Bessie reminded him.
"Tell him to try going up and see if there's any change."
Bessie opened the large metal door and shouted down. Lin Ye stood outside the elevator doors, sensing the situation in the darkness.
The elevator ascended. This time, it didn't stop right outside Floor 3941. Instead, it moved upward a certain distance, with only a quarter of the elevator car remaining within the floor level.
Andrew opened the elevator doors, lay down on the elevator floor, and peered outside.
"It's stuck again, but it's a bit better than before. If I ram it a few more times with the elevator, maybe we can get past?"
"As long as something is still stuck above, we can't pass through here by riding the elevator. Can the elevator still go down?"
Lin Ye was a clinical doctor. He occasionally encountered similar situations during surgeries. This wasn't a particularly difficult problem to solve.
"It should be able to. What should we do?"
Andrew asked.
"I'll try to lure the thing inside out into the elevator lobby. After that, we'll enter the floor space to look for another passageway to go up. You seize the opportunity to get the elevator up there. The anomalous creature might return to the elevator shaft at any time, so you'll need to grasp the timing."
Lin Ye planned to use 'food' to lure the anomalous creature out, but he wasn't sure if it would succeed.
"Can't you bypass the anomalous creature and enter the elevator directly?"
Andrew didn't want Lin Ye entering the floor space. Separating from Lin Ye made him feel a bit uneasy.
"The anomalous creature here is too dangerous. I'm not planning to get close to it.
You absolutely must secure the elevator at Floor 3942. If the elevator gets knocked down below and the anomalous creature blocks the elevator shaft again, we're finished."
Lin Ye instructed.
"Don't worry, there's no way I'd mess up something this simple."
Andrew said with great confidence.
"Better be so."
Lin Ye always felt the other man wasn't very reliable.
"Uh, to avoid holding everyone back, I request to stay in the elevator!"
Bessie suddenly realized that as long as she entered the elevator with Andrew, she could leave this place very easily.
"No, I need an assistant."
Lin Ye cruelly shattered Bessie's fantasy. He didn't need an assistant, but he also wasn't planning to let Bessie leave his line of sight.
"I'm very fragile, I really can't be of any help. How about I control the elevator, and you take your friend up?"
Bessie was extremely uneasy now. She felt she was definitely going to die.
"Not needed. Don't waste time."
Lin Ye looked at Andrew, signaling him to hurry down.
"Alright, I'll get the timing right."
Andrew controlled the elevator back down to Floor 3940.
Lin Ye used the biological sample to create some small, flying creatures. These creatures flew in a line into the elevator shaft, gradually luring the anomalous creature inside out into the elevator lobby.
The anomalous creature was attracted by the flying food and successfully squeezed into the elevator lobby.
It was a milky white, soft, lump-like anomalous creature resembling congealed fat. Inside the anomalous creature's body grew tumor-like structures and red flowers, but these parasitic organisms had all been altered in their basic structure, turning into gelatinous substances.
Lin Ye only took a peek through the door crack from the floor space, and parts of his body began to swell and inflate like balloons. He hurriedly closed the door, and the swelling state stopped.
"Are you okay?"
Bessie quickly supported Lin Ye. She really didn't want to be alone in this dangerous floor space.
"I'm fine. Good thing I didn't come into contact with that anomalous creature earlier."
Lin Ye used a spiritual energy blade to cut open his body, excising the slowly proliferating fat inside.
That anomalous creature seemed to be related to grease or fat.
While dealing with his body, Lin Ye also observed the surrounding environment. They were in a pure white corridor so clean it was spotless.
On both sides of the corridor were rows of rooms resembling laboratories. They could observe the interiors through transparent glass.
These laboratories were filled with experimental samples of various mutation organs.
"...I don't like this place."
Looking at those mutation organs soaked in liquid inside transparent containers, Bessie had the illusion that she was the dissected experimental subject.
"I don't like it either. The quality of these mutation organs is too poor, completely lacking reference value."
Lin Ye walked forward along the corridor while carefully observing those experimental samples. These samples seemed to have no commonality whatsoever, as if they were mutation organs cultivated randomly in different environments.
'What's the point of doing this? Experiments should control variables, unless this isn't an experiment at all...'
Lin Ye suddenly stopped. He carefully sensed the various mutation organs within his body. Only then did he discover that a section of his small intestine was missing, and his left hepatic lobe was gone too.
"What's wrong?"
Bessie also stopped, asking nervously.
"Two of my mutation organs are missing. I can't determine the cause of this situation yet. I need to investigate."
Lin Ye began researching the cause of the mutation organs' disappearance by controlling variables.
"Cough... My heart is gone..."
Bessie weakly collapsed to the ground. If Lin Ye hadn't reminded her, she wouldn't have even known she was close to death.
"It's fine. I'll make one for you to use for now."
Lin Ye used the biological sample within Bessie's body to Alienate a simple heart, supplementing the missing part.
Bessie quickly returned to a normal state.
"Thank you for saving my life!"
Bessie said excitedly. She suddenly felt Lin Ye wasn't that terrifying after all.
"If you're fine, take a few steps forward. See which organ was turned into a specimen. Don't worry, I'll make a replacement for you."
Lin Ye said with a smile.
