Global Survival: I Got the D-Rank Personnel Simulator

Chapter 365: Funeral in progress

"Hey! What are you? That's not a place you can sit!"

"These outsiders have no manners at all!"

"If this weren't that lord's funeral, I would have already taken action!"

"Get down!"

"Let's kill them together!"

...

Noisy voices rose from below the altar, but they quickly fell silent.

One by one, compressed spiritual energy blades stabbed through these people's bodies from behind. Lin Ye placed his index finger to his lips.

"Shh, quiet now. The funeral is about to begin."

The entire church fell into a deathly silence. This was the atmosphere a funeral should have. The church doors opened. A lady dressed in a black formal suit and wearing a black veil entered the church. Behind her followed a team of security personnel also in black formal suits, none of whom looked particularly friendly.

This lady was the new owner of the manor and also the one who invited Lin Ye and the others, Lady Cecilia.

The deceased was her father.

Cecilia had clearly been monitoring the situation inside the church. She wasn't surprised by Lin Ye's location and didn't make any comment, simply proceeding with the funeral ceremony as if she hadn't seen Lin Ye.

Because she also didn't know how best to handle Lin Ye.

Lin Ye sat right next to the coffin, allowing other guests to come and pay their respects to him. The entire church was filled with a bizarre atmosphere.

Anna: Truly worthy of a third-tier big shot. Even high-level spiritual energy users have to come forward and bow to the boss.

Lucas: Aren't any of you scared? My legs are shaking a bit right now. These people might not be able to do anything to the boss, but we came with him...

Kumar: This is nothing. You sit tight and don't ruin the boss's imposing aura.

Anna: Exactly. These people are all wary of the boss right now, that's why no one's making a move. If you chicken out, the boss will definitely be fine, but whether we survive is another story.

Lucas: Alright, I'll try my best.

Lin Ye: If a fight breaks out later, try to stay close to me. If you need to run, absolutely do not go near the very center of the church.

Anna: Roger that!

Kumar: Is there something there?

Lucas: This funeral isn't a trap, is it?

Lin Ye: There's nothing there. For now.

Thud!

The church doors were kicked to pieces. A group of armed personnel wearing cloaks and masks stormed into the church.

The leader of the masked figures was a seventh-tier spiritual energy user. In his hands was a spiritual energy heavy machine gun.

This heavy machine gun didn't look like a low-tier spiritual energy item at all.

The ammunition belts were loaded with thick metal bullets the length of a finger. Complex runes were engraved on the casings.

Lucas: Damn! That heavy machine gun can't be a high-tier spiritual energy item, can it?! That's way too rich!

Anna: I can't even afford mid-tier spiritual energy bullets... I'm drooling.

Kumar: The weapons in those armed personnel's hands don't look like low-tier spiritual energy firearms either! These people are way too rich!

Lin Ye: The firearm materials are average. Those spiritual energy firearms are probably all disposable consumables. Also, they don't have much ammunition, just one or two magazines. Only that ammunition belt mixed with high-tier spiritual energy bullets is a bit troublesome.

As a master of spiritual energy materials science, Lin Ye spotted the issues with those weapons at a glance.

Anna: Boss! Disposable is fine. Can I have a few after we take them down?

Lin Ye: You can have them all. It would be a waste of my time to take them back and modify their structures.

As long as there are sufficient spiritual energy materials, Lin Ye could produce such disposable firearms himself. They hold no research value for him.

Lucas: !

Kumar: Finally found a real carry! Before, it was always me carrying my teammates through.

The masked figures flooded into the church, pointing their firearms at the security personnel and guests inside. The leading masked man walked up to the altar and aimed the muzzle of the heavy machine gun at Lady Cecilia.

"I only want his corpse. Once we get the body, we'll withdraw."

The masked man cautiously approached the coffin. Only then did he notice Lin Ye, who had his hand resting on the coffin.

"Who are you?"

Most of the masked man's attention was still on Cecilia.

"Who I am isn't important. What's important is that this coffin is empty."

This coffin was made from some material that could block spiritual perception. When Lin Ye placed his hand on the coffin, he secretly used compressed spiritual energy to drill a small hole in it, only to find there was nothing inside.

Although he had guessed the coffin and the body might be problematic, Lin Ye didn't expect there to be no body at all.

That really added to the ceremonial feel.

The masked man violently flung open the coffin lid. Sure enough, there was nothing inside.

The guests in the church felt rather uncomfortable. They had just been paying respects to an empty coffin and to Lin Ye.

"Where is his body?"

The masked man pointed the heavy machine gun at Cecilia and demanded loudly.

"Of course, it's where bodies are kept."

Cecilia was completely unfazed by the masked man's threat and answered calmly.

"Since you're looking for death, then go die!"

The masked man pulled the trigger, firing at Cecilia.

Ratatatatatatatatat!

All the bullets stopped less than half a meter in front of Cecilia. The bullets couldn't penetrate the thin, invisible barrier before her, unable to even cause a single ripple on its surface.

Cecilia stared expressionlessly at the masked man, looking at him as if he were already dead.

"What are you all waiting for? That old thing controlled this land for hundreds of years. Now he's finally dead. If you don't destroy this place, do you actually want to find a new master? Aren't you all coveting his inheritance? Kill this woman, then we can search for the inheritance in peace!"

Ratatatatatatatatat...

The masked man emptied the ammunition belt at Cecilia. Even though he said that, he had already started backing away.

If the old man's corpse wasn't here, then there was no need for him to stay.

While everyone else's attention was on the masked man, Lin Ye casually pocketed the coffin lid. It wasn't that he lacked a lid, but with his loot space having expanded, he needed to find something that previously wouldn't fit to celebrate. The coffin lid was just the right size.

Cecilia suddenly turned her head to look at Lin Ye. She hadn't expected this person to be so troublesome.

Lin Ye pretended nothing had happened. He couldn't very well take the coffin lid out and return it to Cecilia.

The atmosphere in the church grew extremely tense. Some guests clearly found the masked man's words quite reasonable.

Lin Ye: They're about to make a move. Be careful.

Anna: I'm being watched by a high-level spiritual energy user next to me.

Lucas: Me too. The spiritual energy users nearby are all watching us.

Kumar: Why are they watching us?

Lin Ye: In their eyes, we're on the manor's side. We likely know some information related to the inheritance.

Kumar: But we don't know anything.

Lucas: That doesn't matter.

At that moment, translucent 'ghosts' walked into the church, heading straight for the open coffin.
