Chapter 126: Second Warfront Event
"Whew, almost died there. If your friend hadn't arrived in time, we'd really be in trouble this time."
Mia tossed the Despair Dagger to Lin Ye, seeming to be in rather good spirits.
"How did you manage to bring this thing back?"
Lin Ye caught the dagger. This wasn't exactly a stable creation, and he wasn't sure how long this stability would last.
[Acquired a gift. Complete simulation while carrying the gift to bring it back to the Shelter]
"As a souvenir from your first journey, you can take it back with you."
Mia proved far more reliable in the asylum than she appeared in stories.
"Thanks, I need to head back now. There's an activity tonight."
Lin Ye finished his iced cola, crunching down the remaining ice cubes as well.
"See you next time then. Don't just stay cooped up in the library all the time - there are other interesting places around the institution." Mia vanished from her seat.
"Goodbye."
Holding the dagger, Lin Ye chose to return to the Shelter.
…………………
Back at the Shelter, the Despair Dagger materialized in the center. Lin Ye checked the time - three hours remained until the Nighttime Activity.
[Despair Dagger]
[A dagger that causes creatures to fall into despair while smiling]
[Note: Average stability. Each use increases the probability of the dagger's collapse]
"...Seems like it could work as a disposable item."
Lin Ye stored the Despair Dagger, went to the basement to gather some materials, and entered the spiritual energy workshop.
The plump pigeon hopped along behind Lin Ye, appearing increasingly excited.
This journey into the Abyss had not only significantly accelerated the growth of his Seed of Spirit, but Lin Ye had also learned numerous techniques from those veteran hunters.
Additionally, by integrating those silk strands into his body, he had physically absorbed some new rune knowledge. While incomplete, this knowledge might be synthesized into new techniques.
Lin Ye could organize this new understanding through crafting spiritual energy items.
Time flew by during his work session. With one hour remaining until the Nighttime Activity, Lin Ye left the workshop.
After tending to the plants and animals and preparing a lavish dinner, Lin Ye opened the group chat while eating.
(535109/1000000)
"Today's activity should be War Front, right?"
"Is that even a question?"
"Hope the big shots kill plenty, preferably clearing out the entire monster pool."
"Will the monster pool total still be 10 million this time?"
"Hard to say. Hopefully not."
"Could be ten times the number of remaining people from last week."
"Whatever. Our region has plenty of experts - even if it's 10 million, feels like we could wipe them out."
"That would suck for other regions though. Hope it's remaining count times ten."
"Master Lin has new creations available."
"I'm not falling for that again. Going to the trading area now would definitely be too late. Just post screenshots."
Yu Feng: Managed to snag one by sheer luck. (Item image) (Item info)
"How are you still not dead?!"
"Master's creations always maintain such artistic sensibility."
"What the hell is this thing? Spiritual energy trap mine?"
"Can be deployed as traps or thrown for use. Seems pretty decent."
[Nighttime Activity commencing]
[Tonight's Activity: War Front]
[00:59:59]
"It's about to begin."
"High price offered for spiritual energy protection items."
"Only starting to buy now?"
"Everyone, see you shortly."
"See you soon."
……
Closing the group chat and organizing his equipment, Lin Ye sat on his bed waiting for the countdown to finish. The pigeon above him excitedly made cooing sounds.
[00:00:01]
[00:00:00]
[Assigning battlefields corresponding to combat strength, transmitting...]
[After eliminating ten enemies, survivors may choose to return to Shelter at any time]
[More enemies eliminated equals richer rewards after activity conclusion]
[Acquired special skill: Peace]
[Peace]
[Summons the Peace Gun]
[Note: Only war can bring true peace. Use this gun to eliminate them all - leave none behind]
Transmission began.
…………………
Lin Ye opened his eyes to find a humanoid first-stage Mutation Creature crouched on the ground, gnawing on human remains.
Looking around, human carcasses littered the area alongside humanoid Mutation Creatures feeding on the corpses.
Lin Ye had been transmitted inside a lost stronghold.
The spiritual energy density inside the stronghold felt moderate. With no intact allies in sight, Lin Ye remained uncertain about his exact situation.
He didn't consider these corpse-eating humanoid Mutation Creatures as potential teammates, so he decided to clear the area first, secure the stronghold, then determine his next course of action.
Invisible spiritual energy blades pierced through the humanoid creatures' backs, erupting spiritual energy shredding their internal organs. One after another, the humanoid creatures collapsed. The strongest among them barely reached second-stage, allowing Lin Ye to swiftly clear the entire stronghold.
During the clearing process, Lin Ye discovered a severely injured female soldier buried beneath a pile of corpses.
Lin Ye treated her wounds and incidentally installed a new mutated arm for her.
After patting the soldier's face, she quickly regained consciousness.
Upon waking, the soldier nervously scanned her surroundings while searching for weapons.
"Stay calm. Report the current situation."
A single glance from Lin Ye froze her in place.
"You are...?"
The soldier cautiously inquired.
"Sent from above for reinforcement. Brief me on the current situation. Don't waste time."
Under the pressure of Lin Ye's formidable mental energy, the soldier haltingly explained the circumstances.
The soldier named Kara was a third-year student from Kalan City's First Vocational Technical College.
Kalan City served as a frontier settlement of the empire, located not far southwest from the stronghold, currently under siege by alien races.
These alien races represented brutal creatures originating from other Planes. For them, slaughter and death represented daily routine, with human corpses serving as excellent sustenance.
Currently, numerous imperial territories faced invasion from these alien races. Central command suffered personnel shortages, unable to reinforce less critical cities like Kalan. Thus, the city lord could only conscript civilians into military service for city defense.
"How long has Kalan City been under siege?"
Lin Ye pondered briefly before asking.
"The stronghold just fell. Those aliens should have just reached Kalan's outskirts."
Kara checked the time before responding.
"Good. Do you know the highest stage among the strongest of these alien forces? What about Kalan's most powerful defender?"
Lin Ye began formulating plans, though these depended on the aliens not possessing absurdly overwhelming strength.
"Rumors suggest the strongest in this alien army reaches fourth-stage spiritual energy user. The city lord also stands at fourth-stage."
Kara sounded somewhat uncertain.
"If you have no additional information, you may leave."
Lin Ye decided to occupy this stronghold and launch surprise attacks against the alien forces from their rear.
Having already eliminated ten enemies, he could withdraw anytime. He could handle anything below fourth-stage, but would retreat upon encountering fourth-stage opponents.
The aliens likely wouldn't deploy their strongest fighter immediately against him, creating opportunities for harvesting additional eliminations.
