Chapter 336
Within the vast skywell, the most striking feature was the black tunnel yawning at its very center. Distinct metallic array patterns were inlaid into the surrounding ground, their minuscule silver specks catching the light in brief flashes. Obscured by the firelight, they were impossible to notice without looking closely.
"Wait for me here," Lin Hui said.
Pang Jiu nodded. "Please be careful," he said in a low voice.
The danger of the deep core had been made unmistakably clear during the Battle of Sea Cry.
"It'll be fine. If I want to leave, nothing here can stop me," Lin Hui replied. He stepped forward—and vanished without a sound.
In an instant, he had passed into the tunnel. The Undying Race guards posted around the abyss remained entirely oblivious; to them, the cold wind had simply gusted a little harder for a moment.
Lin Hui moved swiftly through the deep, lightless underground passage. All around him, the Corruption aura grew steadily denser—a sensation he was already more than familiar with. It was the aura that living creatures emitted as they neared Corruption.
He slowed, descending for another half minute. Ahead, the passage gradually curved and then leveled out. A dozen seconds later, an opening appeared, and as he shot through it, his field of vision suddenly expanded.
He had entered a vast, gray subterranean plain. A massive rift tore through its center, venting howling gusts of black, mist-like sand. Landing slowly, Lin Hui looked upward. There was no ceiling—only a blanket of grayish-black mist hanging above, mimicking a true sky.
