Chapter 311
Lin Hui watched the top of the stairs with equal parts curiosity and wariness. From their brief exchange, he had already formed a rough picture of Fusheng: whatever his origins, the man had once possessed terrifying strength—the kind that let him look down on realm-breaking experts as a matter of course. Yet even someone of that caliber was evidently terrified of the Formless Heavenly Demon. That alone said plenty.
In truth, this was his first time genuinely crossing into another realm. He had always assumed his likeliest path would be a reverse crossing through the open gates of Purgatory or Extreme Cold. He had never expected to stumble across by accident, through a subsidiary demonic palace evolved from the Blood Seal.
Not that it mattered. Inside the demonic palace, at least, he had some measure of protection.
Tap. Tap. Tap.
As the footsteps grew closer, both Lin Hui and Fusheng went still.
Poof!
A streak of white light shot down the stairwell. It hit the floor and rolled, swooshing to a stop a few meters in front of Lin Hui.
"…This is the Formless Heavenly Demon?" Lin Hui stared, at a loss for words, at the large white ball rolling on the ground before him.
To be precise, it wasn't quite spherical—more oval, like a giant bolster or an oversized white steamed bun. A pair of goofy, outsized eyes sat atop it, and its tightly pursed mouth formed a squiggly upturned line.
