Chapter 487 - 149: Simultaneous Death
The red Magic Cube Robot twisted its body, contorting itself into the car in an incredible posture, pulling the tied-up person inside, starting the car, turning around, and driving off swiftly.
The driver’s wife wore a worried expression: "It’s bad enough AI is taking our jobs, now robots too?"
"Is that what you’re thinking? The robot kidnapped a person, not a car. Call the police!"
Officer Porlin had set foot on Extraordinary Island countless times, leaving him numb. This time, he requested another team to assist.
In the case of Xue Huiyi, the investigation was nearing its end. With all the physical and testimonial evidence, the incident of stealing others’ designs couldn’t be taken to court. But there were over thirty other cases, demanding compensation of over three million, several families torn apart, all for just that amount of money.
The police lamented for a long while.
Yet, Xue Huiyi in the detention center continued to eat and drink well, seemingly unaffected by it all, which worried Officer Porlin about Su Xiaocai’s dissatisfaction.
Su Xiaocai wasn’t aware of the situation at the detention center and didn’t care about Xue Huiyi. She was more concerned about who had sent the five men in front of her.
The five individuals brought back by the robot were tied up and kneeling on the ground, looking pitiful.
Dirty rags were stuffed into their mouths from who knows where, their limbs bound by hemp ropes skillfully tied to tighten with any struggle.
Su Xiaocai stepped on one person’s face, afraid of dirtying her hands. After all, these people looked heavily ill, and in case of any contagious diseases, it would only mean changing a pair of shoes.
The tip of her shoe nudged the suspect’s face side to side, examining. The features were unfamiliar; she had never seen or known them.
Porlin thought Su Xiaocai looked every bit the villain at this moment; with sunglasses, she’d resemble one even more.
Wei Burli and his colleagues, ordered to stay put, were extremely tense.
Yu Haoming was also alarmed; some people were relentless in infiltrating. Without Huahua around, who knows how many similar Insect Men might hide in the company’s corners, drooling over passersby every day or waiting for a chance to explode.
He was relieved that Su Xiaocai usually refrained from directing Huahua, letting it scout and observe every corner of the company.
At unsuspected moments, Huahua might have caught many Insect Men.
Wei Burli asked Yu Haoming what was happening and why people were detained.
Yu Haoming succinctly explained, "There are some issues with your people. We’ve already called the police. You can’t leave either; you’ll undergo questioning soon."
Wei Burli was shocked, "Is it Ah Qing, who went in for the interview?"
"It seems so for now. We’re not sure if there are others among you, further investigation is needed."
"Ah Qing doesn’t seem like a person who’d do such things. He’s been with our team for a long time."
"It’s not up to me; the police have to be asked. Stay here for now. After checks, we’ll see what President Su says."
The entire team fell silent; the interview was certainly scrapped now. "How could Ah Qing be so thoughtless?"
"Maybe it isn’t Ah Qing. Don’t rush to conclusions."
"If the interview doesn’t go through, I might have to return home. Living on Capital Star is too expensive; I haven’t saved much, can’t afford it."
Previously, everyone could stay in temporarily rented office spaces. Failure at the Extraordinary Island interview meant splitting up, going their separate ways.
The fifteen-member team wore worried expressions, aspiring to enter big companies and learn the most advanced technology, but incidents like these happened frequently, making it rather dangerous.
...
Ji Heng and others emerged from the entertainment area. Seeing the police cars and so many people inside, they knew something big had happened and hurried to find Su Xiaocai to join in and gossip.
Before they could get close to the scene, the five bound men began convulsing, their eyes rolling back, and something seemed to be bulging in their chests.
The bones made cracking sounds.
Su Xiaocai jumped back, distancing herself, not wanting to get caught in it.
Some police officers rushed forward to help, pressing them down.
Completely uncontrollable, like maggots soaked in brine, stretching and curling.
A non-human scream issued from their throats, the rag in their mouths only slightly muffling the sound.
The police forcibly injected them with tranquilizers. After the injection, they calmed for a moment before it continued, the chest area rapidly surging.
"Stay away," Porlin raised his gun, "Keep back for now."
Huahua obediently stayed in Su Xiaocai’s arms, likely not an Insect Man.
As everyone distanced themselves, they witnessed a disgusting scene.
Something inside the suspects’ chests broke out.
A flesh-colored parasitic wasp crawled out of their bodies.
They were somewhat different from ordinary parasitic wasps, with two tentacle-like appendages on the sides of their bodies.
They seemed to be mutant species.
Before they could take flight by flapping their wings, the police opened fire, shooting multiple rounds to smash them.
