Chapter 621: Red Eyes With a Golden Tinge

Point-of-View: Ciel Campbell

"Huh, so I can summon Spirits with this scroll? Cool."

"Do you really not know any of this? It’s common knowledge here, so I suppose that means the world you come from is different. I have heard rumors that Heroes come from worlds that are devoid of Magic, but it sounds like that isn’t the case with your world."

"Mhm, yeah, we’ve got Magic in our world. Though, that happened a little over a century ago, we didn’t have Magic before that. And based on everything you’ve told me, our Magic is a lot different to this world’s Magic, we don’t have scrolls like this, and we don’t have Spirits either," I replied, before adding, "So, how do I use this? Actually, I wonder if I even can use it, since I’m not from this world."

"We can check. Here, place your hand on this," She replied, taking out a crystal ball.

Ohh, I’ve seen scenes like this in old anime. If I’m super OP, I’ll shatter the crystal and this girl will be all like ’woah, I’ve never seen anything like this before’!

"Sure, let’s see what happens," I replied, before placing my hand on top of the crystal ball.

It began glowing, five dots appearing inside it, before one of the dots glowed brightly. Huh? That’s it? Well, that’s disappointing, I really thought it was going to go boom and explode...

"Yes, you are capable of using Spiritual Magic, but you’re only capable of forming a link with one Spirit," She informed me.

Oh. Well, that’s disappointing too. Still, I suppose it’s better than not being able to use it all.

"You said that the summoning is random, right? Is there any way to guarantee that I get a powerful Spirit?" I asked her.

"It’s not exactly random, but there’s no way to select a specific Spirit. At least, not as far as I know," She shook her head.

"That’s too bad. Oh, by the way, after I found myself here, I’ve been feeling kinda weird, like there’s something in me that wasn’t there before. Any idea what that might be?"

"No, I’m afraid not, nothing comes to mind. What exactly does it feel like?"

"Uh, let’s see...I don’t know, it’s hard to explain. Hm...wait, I think there’s a shift in my Mana flow. I didn’t have any trouble casting my Explosion Magic earlier, so it doesn’t seem to be detrimental...maybe if I focus on it...," I muttered, closing my eyes and focusing on the sensation.

Hmm...wait, now that I’m honing in on it, I think I’m starting to get an idea of it. It’s like...a new stream has been added to my Mana flow. But it isn’t disrupting any existing aspect of my Mana flow, so is it a new addition of some kind?

I think I should be able to channel it...I’ll try to output just a little bit through my fingertips. Since I don’t know what this is, I should be careful.

I opened my eyes and raised my left hand, channeling the unfamiliar sensation in the flow of my Mana...before my eyes widened as small bursts of wind erupted out.

What the...?

"Well, that’s new," I remarked in bewilderment.

That looked like Wind Magic.

"Wait, I just remembered...I’ve heard that since summoned Heroes come from worlds without Magic, they gain a random form of Elemental Magic when summoned. So, it seems like you’ve gained Wind Magic in addition to your existing Magic," She informed me.

Woah, for real?!

"Sweet! Probably shouldn’t use it till I’ve got a better grasp over it, though. This is pretty cool...though, I’m more curious about Spiritual Magic. I’d like to buy one of these scrolls and try it out, but I don’t have any of this world’s money on me," I sighed wistfully.

"Oh, you can have one. We have a surplus as it is, so it’s no trouble," She smiled, as she handed me one of the scrolls.

"Woah, for real? Thanks, I really appreciate it! I’ll find a way to pay you back somehow. One of my friends can make unlimited copies of stuff, I’ll have him whip you up a bunch of treats from our world," I grinned, before adding, "So, I just need to put a drop of my blood on this scroll and run some Mana through it, right?"

"Yes, that’s-...n-no, wait, not indoors!" She exclaimed in alarm, as I bit my thumb and dabbed some blood onto the scroll.

"Oh, sorry. I’ll step outside. Thanks again!" I smiled, giving her a wave as I exited the store.

What a nice young lady-...woah, that makes me sound really old.

Alright, let’s try this out. I’ve got my blood on it, now just to channel some Mana into it...

Suddenly, an intense burst of energy erupted as a Magic circle appeared in front of me, the scroll floating out of my hand and hovering in the air above the circle, before bursting into blue flames, the ashes falling onto the Magic circle and-...hm?

I turned my gaze across as several footsteps rang out, a squad of uniformed men coming into view.

"There, it must be her, she matches the description we were given!"

Guess some witnesses must have reported me.

"She’s summoning a Spirit, kill her before it appears!"

"No, we need to capture her! Surround her!"

I glanced around as the men surrounded me, ten of them in total, right as the Magic circle grew blindingly bright.

Suddenly, the glow abruptly faded, a figure appearing before me...an immensely familiar figure.

A familiar head of medium-length, messy white hair that was so pale it was almost translucent.

Red eyes that had a golden tinge around the irises, with dark circles under the eyes and a small diagonal scar across the middle of his left eyebrow.

He had a light brown complexion, and was on the shorter side with a slender, agile build, the figure’s entire body glowing, like the Apostles.

The figure wore a black face-mask, with a long-sleeved black shirt under a sleeveless white coat that went down past the back of his knees, and black trousers.

There was another scar, peeking out of the right side of his mask and extending across his cheek and stopping just short of his earlobe.

"Attack, now-...!" One of the Knights began, before I promptly blasted them away with a rapid volley of explosions.

Loud booms rang out, drowning out their cries, as the figure lifted his head and met my gaze. My vision blurred as tears welled up, a choked sob escaping my lips as I opened my mouth, the words stuck in my throat as I felt my chest tighten.

The tears began streaming down my face, as I finally managed to get the words out...

"I-Is...is that really you, Rex?"
