Chapter 1230 - 1257: On the Brink of Disaster 9
Chu Zhan couldn’t be bothered with this lunatic anymore. He rushed over to Shi Nuan in one swift stride, untied the ropes around her wrists and ankles, then pulled her into a tight embrace, his voice unable to hide the lingering terror.
"Nuannuan, thank god you’re okay. I finally found you, I finally found you."
Shi Nuan felt as if golden sunlight had been poured into her heart, full and solid and warm. Feeling the heat from Chu Zhan’s body, her nose stung.
"Chu Zhan, I thought I was going to die. I almost never got to see you again."
"Don’t talk nonsense, what die or not die." Chu Zhan spat three times to ward it off, then loosened his hold on Shi Nuan a little so he could barely calm his nerves enough to really look at her.
"What happened to your face and your arm?" Chu Zhan’s expression was all aching concern. He wanted to touch her but didn’t dare.
"Was it Jian Qingqing? What else did she do to you? Do you have any other injuries on your body?"
Shi Nuan shook her head. "I’m fine, Chu Zhan, they’re just two small cuts, it’s nothing."
"What do you mean small cuts? Just looking at them hurts." Chu Zhan frowned and murmured, "I’m sorry, Nuannuan. I came too late and made you suffer."
"No, I’m fine. Seeing you is even better." Knowing now that Chu Zhan was the one who saved her when she was a child, Shi Nuan had a stomach full of things she wanted to say to him, but this was clearly not the right time to talk.
She was just about to ask Chu Zhan to take her out of there when Jian Qingqing suddenly exploded with Strength, kicked that class monitor away, whipped out a lighter and flicked it on, then hurled it toward the doorway not far away. In the blink of an eye, it went up in flames.
The searing blaze instantly wrapped around the outside, and like a single spark that can start a prairie fire, it spread rapidly in all directions.
"Jian Qingqing, you’re insane!"
Smoke billowed in fast. Shi Nuan, Chu Zhan, and the class monitor all stared wide-eyed. The second she processed what was happening, Shi Nuan let out a furious, panicked roar.
"Hahaha, this is the gift I prepared for you!" Jian Qingqing laughed wildly.
"I already anticipated this might happen. If I got discovered, we’d all die together. This is an underground basement, with several levels above and below. We’re on the very bottom floor.
To get out, you have to go through that passage door. That door leads outside, with a long flight of stairs, coiling around us like a snake. Once it catches fire, there’s only a dead end.
You have nowhere left to run. Be good and stay here to die with me. None of you are getting a happy ending."
Her words had barely fallen when the crackling of sparks came from outside, the sound of fire hitting the electrical circuits. The whole scene was like one of those firestorms on TV.
It was the first time Shi Nuan had seen such a terrifying sight in real life, and for a moment she was stunned.
"Lunatic!"
Chu Zhan cursed under his breath, glanced at the tide of fire about to surge in, then immediately took out the water bottle he always carried on him. He stripped off his jacket, tore half of it off, soaked it with water, and without another word, clamped it over Shi Nuan’s mouth and nose.
"Nuannuan, hold on to this."
"We’ll use it together," Shi Nuan said anxiously, worried about him, trying to pull it down to give it to him.
But Chu Zhan pressed her hand down in a domineering grip. "I don’t need it. Don’t be willful."
Shi Nuan bit her lip hard, too moved to know what to say. The next second, Chu Zhan’s hand closed around hers, placing it on his sleeve. "Hold on to me."
Shi Nuan did as he said, and then Chu Zhan told the class monitor to walk right behind her. The three of them formed a line and quickly headed toward the exit.
Jian Qingqing was still laughing behind them. "No need to waste your effort. You’re not getting out. You’re all dead!"
